Femap Meshing Toolbox教程2

The Meshing Toolbox

Introduction

In this exercise, you will familiarize yourself with the different controls available in the Meshing Toolbox.

?Locate small features.

?Combine curves and surfaces.

?Interactively modify mesh sizes and mesh locations.

Step 1:Identify Small Features using the Locator control

Start Femap v10 and import a Femap Neutral File.

?From either a desktop icon, or from the Windows Start menu, select the icon for Femap v10.

?Select the command, File, Import, Femap Neutral.

?Select the file, Geometry\ex10a-Toolbox1.NEU.

?Rotate the view into an isometric orientation similar to below.

?Activate the Locator controls by selecting the Toggle Entity Locator icon in the Meshing Toolbox pane.

Expand the options under Locate Options and Show Options for the Locator controls. Modify two of the Show Options.

?Disable the option for Auto Rotate.

?Enable the option for Auto Zoom.

To identify small features, you must select one of the Search For options.

?Click Short Edges.

Since the default Based On option is set to Global Mesh Size (1 unit) and the

% of Mesh Size is less than or equal to 5% of the mesh size, the Locator will find all curves less than or equal to .05 units.

Click the Show 4 Curves button.

This highlights the curves using the method specified in Femap’s preferences or the settings for the model set in the Model Info pane.

Visualize the small curves identified with the Locator.

?Using the Entity Locator pulldown menu, select the command, First.

Since the option for Auto Zoom is enabled, the view will automatically zoom and center around the first show edge located.

?Again, using the Entity Locator pulldown menu, select the Next, Previous, Current, and Last commands to identify all four curves.

Save your Femap model.

?Select the Save icon on the Model toolbar.

?Save the Femap model file in your exercises folder as

ex10-MeshingToolbox-1.MOD.

Set mesh sizing for the solid. Using either the Mesh, Mesh Control, Size on Solid command, or with the Model Info pane set the following mesh sizes:

?Element Size = .1

?Max Angle Tolerance = 15

?Disable the option for Max Elem on Small Feature

?Click OK to set the mesh size on the solid.

In the Locator control, again click the Search Method option Short Edges.

Note since the Locate Options, Ignore If, Suppressed is enabled, and the mesh sizing suppressed short edges, the curves initially that were initially located are no longer identified.

Switch the Search For option to Surfaces.

Fit the model in the graphics window with the Ctrl+a hotkey

Enable the option for Small Surfaces.

?Set the value for Fit in Radius to .125.

Click either the Enter key or the Tab key to update the locator. Note how the Show button has been updated to Show 8 Surfaces.

Click the button, Show 8 Surfaces.

Disable the option for Small Surfaces.

Enable the option for Slivers.

Since the edge length of the small curves result in very small surfaces with areas less than the Sliver Tolerance, those surfaces with the small edges are highlighted.

?Click the Show 4 Surfaces button.

?Disable the option for Slivers.

Enable the option for Spikes.

?Since no Spikes are detected, disable the Spikes option.

Enable the option for By Area.

?Set the option for Area Less Than to .01.

?Click the button, Show 4 Surfaces.

Set the Show Options, Auto Zoom, Zoom Factor to 1.

Using the Toggle Entity Indicator menu, walk through the highlighted surfaces.

Click the Toggle Entity Locator icon to close the Locator controls.

Save your Femap model.

Step 2:Use the Feature Suppression Control.

Expand the Feature Suppression control to show all options.

Change the color options under Update Co l ors to suit your preferences.

Click the Restore All In Solids button to remove suppression on the short curves that was set during the assignment of the mesh size on the part.

Click the Select icon in the Meshing Toolbox pane.

?Select one of the curves on the one of the holes in the part.

Deselect the Select icon in the Meshing Toolbox pane.

Refresh your graphics window using the Ctrl+g hotkey.

Note how the color has changed on the hole to show that the hole is suppressed due to selecting one of the curves on the feature.

Click the Show Suppressed Surfaces button to highlight the suppressed feature.

Click the Restore All In Model button to restore suppressed features.

?Click Yes in the dialog for the question, OK to Restore All Suppressed Features ?.

Step 3:Use the Feature Removal Control

Activate and expand the Feature Removal control.

Click the button for Feature Type Surfaces.

Click the Dialog Select icon on the Meshing Toolbox controls toolbar.

?Select two surfaces that define one of the holes in the part.

Note that the hole is removed from the part.

Note: Femap does not have tools to restore a “removed” feature.

To restore removed feature(s), you will either have to:

1) Perform an “Undo” operation.

2) Reread the geometry using the File, References command.

3) Manually recreate features removed with the Feature Removal control.

Apply the Tools, Undo command (Ctrl+z hotkey) to undo the feature removal.

Save your Femap model.

Step 4:Use the Combined / Composite Curves Control

Activate and expand the Combined / Composite Curves control.

Activate and expand the Mesh Quality Toolbox

Turn off display of surfaces.

?Click the View Surfaces icon on the Entity Display toolbar.

Turn on display of points.

?Click the View Points icon on the Entity Display toolbar.

Mesh the part using either the context-sensitive menu in the Model Info pane for the part or with the Mesh, Geometry, Solids command.

Click the Quality icon on the Meshing Toolbox pane to display the quality of the mesh.

Note that the value of the Max Distortion is 1.

Change the Quality Type to Jacobian.

?In the Mesh Quality toolbox, set the Quality Type to Jacobian.

?Disable the option for Smooth Contours.

Zoom around one of the corners of the top of the part to more visualize the mesh due to having the small curve unsuppressed.

Click the Quality icon again to toggle off display of the mesh quality.

Turn off display of the mesh with the View Elements Toggle icon on the Entity Display toolbar.

Use the Combined / Composite Curves control to remove the short edges.

?Open the Combined / Composite Curves control.

?On the Meshing Toolbox control panel, click the Select icon.

?Before selecting one of the points on the short curves, select the Auto Remesh command from the Meshing Toolbox control panel.

?With the Dialog Select tool, select the four points on the beginning of the four short curves.

?Click OK to confirm your selection of the four points.

Note that the mesh has been updated by reviewing the messages in the Messages pane.

Zoom out to display the newly created Combined / Composite curves.

Turn on display of the mesh.

Click the Quality icon on the Meshing Toolbox control panel.

Note how Max Distortion has decreased to just over a value of .6. Save your model and close it.

Step 5: Open a new Femap model and display its mesh quality

Import a Femap Neutral file in a new model.

?Click the New Model icon on the Model toolbar or use the File, New command.

?Import the Femap Neutral file Geometry/ex10b-MeshingToolbox-2.NEU.

Expand the Mesh Quality Toolbox.

On the Meshing Toolbox control panel, click the Quality icon.

Note how the Max Distortion’s value is 0.949321.

Set the Level Mode for the mesh quality to display a user-specified maximum value.

?Change the Quality Type to Jacobian.

?Set the Level Mode to Maximum.

?Expand Level Mode and set Max to .6.

Note how the display of the mesh quality now shows any element with a distortion

value greater than .6 as red.

Step 7:Use the Mesh Sizing Toolbox controls to improve the mesh quality.

Collapse the Combined / Boundary Surfaces control.

Expand the Mesh Sizing Toolbox control.

Before making any modifications to the mesh size, display the current mesh size on the curves.

?Using the View Orient toolbar, set the view orientation to Top.

?Turn off display of the existing mesh by clicking the View Elements Toggle icon on the Entity Display toolbar.

?Modify the display of the Mesh Size by opening the View Options dialog box with the F6 hotkey.

?Set the Category to Labels, Entities and Color.

?Set the Options to Curve-Mesh Size.

?Set Show As to 3..Symbols and Count.

?Click OK to apply the changes.

?Your display should appear as follows:

Note how the mesh size on the curve on the left end of the part is set to 10. You will reset the mesh size on the curve in the next steps.

Turn on the display of the mesh again with the View Elements Toggle icon.

Increase the mesh size on the left edge of the part.

?In the Mesh Sizing Toolbox, change the Operation to Set To.

?Set the Number of Nodes to 18.
