Recently I came in contact with the true meaning of love. That would have been, Kane, a boy. Kane was the two-year-old son of Jolene, my new neighbor.

At a glance Kane was a sight. He'd been born with hard sticks for legs. And on that morning l witnessed the effect that Kane's physical shortcomings had on his family. But I also witnessed much more than that.

I saw an extraordinary family that embraced this spe cial child, a family that wouldn’t allow Kane to know he was different. Jolene had constructed a small cart just a few inches off the floor for his son to get around. Using his hands to move, Kane moved the cart to "go to" any place just as everyone else was able to do. Kane worked that little cart like a master. Kane was a vital focus of the entire family. He was more than just a member of the family; he was the soul. This child was the driver, the motivator, and the founder of much of the interaction.

Much later in my life, I came to realize that God had sent this child to help some of us who just weren't getting what love was all about. Even with my limited capacity for

understanding at the time that Kane was a highly-developed spirit with great wisdom.

Kane demanded attention, but not because of his mobility challenges or other apparent shortcomings. In his mind, he had no challenges or shortcomings. The truth is that he received attention because he was alive and real and had so much to offer.

Kane was and still is a lot of warm and powerful energy sent to us all, so we might learn that love is beyond all things. Kane, a fragile yet lovely baby, was here to teach us all an important lesson. And at the age of two he did just that.

21. How did the author think o f Kane’s family members?

A. It was ridiculous for them to make a cart for Kane.

B. They were greatly brave to face all the difficulties.

C. They were strange because they locked Kane at home.

D. It was respectable for them to start their own business.

22. How did Kane "go to" everywhere he wanted to go?

A. By moving his cart with his own hands.

B. By asking his father to lead him ahead with a stick.

C. By asking his grandparents to push him everywhere.

D. With the help of a babysitter employed for him.

23. Kane needed attention because he wanted to show

A. he could challenge his difficulties in moving.

B. he had challenges or shortcomings in his life.

C. he had the power to prove he was capable too.

D. he himself needed to be looked after by others.

24. What can we learn from Kane's story?

A. Love me, love my dog.

B. Pure gold fears no fire.

C. Love is above all things.

D. Many hands make light work.

It was something she had dreamed of since she was five. Finally, after years of training

and intensive workouts, Deborah Duffey was going to compete in her first high school basketball game. The goals of becoming an outstanding player and playing college ball were never far from Deborah's mind.

The game was against Mills High School. With 1 minute and 42 seconds left in the game, Deborah's team led by one point. A player of Mills had possession of the ball, and Deborah ran to guard against her. As Deborah was running to block the player, her knee went out and she fell down on the court in burning pain. Just like that, Deborah's season was over. After suffering the bad injury, Deborah found that, for the first time in her life, she was in a situation beyond her control. Game after game, she could do nothing but sit on the sidelines watching others play the game that she loved so much.

Injuries limited Deborah's time on the court as she hurt her knees three more times in the next five years. She had to spend countless hours in a physical clinic to receive treatment. Her frequent visits there gave her a passion and respect for the profession. And Deborah began to see a new light in her life.

Currently as a senior in college, Deborah focuses on getting a degree in physical treatment. After she graduates, Deborah plans to use her knowledge to educate people how to best take care of their bodies and cope with the feelings of hopelessness that she remembers so well.

High heels, coffee cups and dogs have been regarded as three of the most dangerous things to have in a car.

While men were responsible for the greater number of accidents reported, women played their part by driving in high heels. Putting fashion over function meant 44 percent of female motorists had been prevented from using the pedals correctly by their high heels.

Being keen on a caffeine kick while driving can also create an accident if they leave empty coffee cups lying around their vehicles. Twenty percent of those surveyed admitted they had crashed their cars or had a near miss after a deserted coffee cup or an empty drink bottle rolled under their brake pedals.

However, it is not just wearing and eating that cause a threat from inside the car: man's best friend could also cause a catastrophe if not safely secured. One in eight motorists claimed to have had a scrape(擦伤) or miss on the road due to their dogs' wandering freely, climbing into the front seat or trying to escape through the windows.

The accidents meant drivers took their eyes off the road for more than three seconds each time, according to the poll of 2,000 British motorists. The survey has found drivers will pick up an average bill of£261.47 for the damage caused by every crash. Londoners were the most at risk of an accident closely followed by motorists in the West Midlands and Wales.

Janet Connor, a managing director, said many accidents could be avoided if people cleaned their cars regularly, as one in ten drivers involved in crashes admitted to driving inside a mountain of waste materials. She said, "The possible dangers and distractions outside the car are well-known but as the evidence suggests, those within the car are often forgotten. "

32. What mistake do women drivers most probably make while driving?

A. They wear expensive clothes.

B. They wear shoes with high heels.

C. They drink too much coffee in cars.

D. They take their dogs without tying them.

33. Those who like drinking coffee often have accidents because______

A. the coffee may make them feel faint.

B. the coffee may make the car smell terrible.

C. empty coffee cups may make the brake fail.

D. deserted bottles look the same as brake pedals.

34. Why shouldn't drivers put their dogs in the car while driving?

A. Dogs may bark loudly if seeing traffic lights.

B. Dogs may walk around or even try to escape.

C. Dogs may break the windows to get fresh air.

D. Dogs may make the inside of the car dirty.

35. We can mainly learn from the passage that _______

A. people often neglect the dangers outside the car.

B. accidents will be avoided if cars are cleaned regularly.

C. dangers within the car should be given more attention to.

D. only 10% of the drivers remember to keep their cars clean.

This river comes from a lake in the mountains, over there in the distance, then flows down to the flat land below us where the town is built.

W: What do you like most about living here?

M: A big centre was built last year to encourage the arts —very modern. It’s got a cinema,

a theatre and an art gallery. And there’s football. The local team hasn’t done so well

lately. A few years ago we nearly won the Cup. And our area is famous for music — not in Swanton itself, but there’s a well-known music festival in the next town.

W: But there are problems with the environment.

M: We’re working on that. The river was a grea t place for fish, but the water got so polluted by the factories that most of the fish disappeared. Well, we’ve cleaned the river up now, and the fish are starting to come back. But I’m unhappy about Swanton woods. The trees are quite healthy, but if you look, there are no birds there, and that’s because pollution has reduced the number of insects.

(4)in that 35 1 which 33 1 whichever 30 1 where 28 1 交际用语如何应答21 1 其中22、27、35的错误率较高。
