一、词根-ment-: 表示think

1) mention v. 提及,说起

Don’t mention it. (客套用语)别客气;不要这样说

2) mentioned adj. 被提及的

as mentioned above (写作结尾段)综上所述

3) mental adj.精神上的

Happiness is not material but mental.快乐不是物质上的,而是精神上的。

4) comment n./ v. 评论

make a comment(n.) on sth. = comment(v.) on sth. 评论某事

People were always commenting on my sister’s look. 人们总是对我妹妹的容貌品头论足。

二、变体mind

1) mind n. 思维,想法v. 介意,关心

Never mind. (用来回答别人的道歉)没关系

make up one’s mind 下定决心

bear / have / keep sth. in mind 记在心里

have sth. on one’s mind 为某事担忧,有心事

change one’s mind 改变心意

keep an open mind 采取虚心态度,不抱偏见

2) open-minded adj. 虚心的;思想开明的;无偏见的

Anybody is welcome who is open-minded. 欢迎任何思想开明的人。

The new teacher is said to be very open-minded.据说新老师思想开放。

3) absent-minded adj.心不在焉的

As you were absent-minded, it’s no wonder that you know nothing about the speech.

你心不在焉的,难怪你对讲演一无所知。

4) simple-minded adj. 头脑简单的;愚蠢的

Scarlet had a simple-minded maid with her. 斯佳丽身边有一个头脑简单的女佣。

Don’t take him for simple-minded. The game was one of his works.

5) narrow-minded adj. 狭隘的;心胸狭窄的;有偏见的

A man born in a noble family may not be noble-minded.

7)remind v. 提醒,使想起

记忆:
