②as if 还可用于省略句中。如果as if 引导的从句中含有“主语+系动词”结构,且从句主语与主句主语相同,

可以省略从句中的主语和系动词。

3.All hope was not lost. 并不是所有的希望都破灭了。

这是一个表示部分否定的句子。句型All…not 或者Not…all 均表示部分否定,可翻译成“不是所有的…”或者“并非所有的…”

Not all the girls left.=Only some of the girls left. 并不是所有的女孩都离开了。

All the children are not noisy. 并不是所有的孩子都很吵闹。

注意:对两者以上的全部否定应用none of…,其后的谓语动词既可以用单数形式,也可以用复数形式。

句子中的who were trapped 是定语从句,先行词是those。当先行词是those,anybody 等表示人的代词时,定语从句要用who来引导,不能用that。

Those who want to see the film write your names on the paper. 想看电影的人把你们的名字写在这张纸上。

Anybody who breaks the law will be punished. 任何人犯法都要受到惩罚。

5. To the north of the city, most of the 10000 miners were rescued from the coal mines there. 在城市的北边,有一个万名矿工的煤矿,其中多数人得救了。

在表示位置关系时,通常用in表示在范围之内;to表示在范围外(不接壤);on表示在范围外(接壤)。

Period 6: Grammar Attributive Clause I

在复合句中,修饰名词或代词的从句叫做定语从句。被修饰的词叫做先行词。定语从句跟在先行词后面。引导定语从句的有关系代词who, which, that, whom, whose等和关系副词where, when, why等。关系代词和关系副词在句子中充当成分。

1.关系代词和关系副词的作用

⑴把作定语的从句与主句中被修饰的先行词连接在一起。

⑵替代主句中被修饰的先行词,并以先行词的身份出现在从句中。

⑶必须在从句中充当一个句子成分。

关系代词引导的定语从句:

关系代词

⑴功能:引导一个定语从句,把它和主句连接起来,形成主从关系;替代前面的先行词,有当其在从句中作宾语是

This is the man who helped me.( 指人,做主语)

The doctor (whom) you are looking for is in the room.(指人,作宾语,可以省略)

Do you know the man whose name is Tom? (指人,做定语,表示所有格)

The book (which / that) you are reading is written by a famous novelist. (指物,做宾语,可以省略)

The building which/ that stands there is our school. (指物,做主语)

⑵使用要点:

①关系代词作宾语时可以省略:

关系代词作介词宾语并放在介词后时不可以省略,但介词谓语句末时,关系代词可以省略。

This is the girl with whom he worked. (whom不可以省略)

This is the girl (whom) he worked with (whom 可以省略)

注意:紧跟在介词后面的关系代词只能用whom或者which分别代替人或物。

②关系代词只能用that的情况

a.先行词是最高级形容词或它的前面有最高级形容词修饰时。

This is the best that has been used against pollution.

English is the most difficult subject that you will learn during these years.

b.先行词是序数词,或它前面有一个序数词时。

This is the last place (that) I want to visit.

It is the first American movie of this kind that I’ve ever seen.

c.先行词是 all, much, little, something, everything, anything, nothing, none等代词时。

You should hand in all that you have.

We haven’t got much that we can offer you.

d. 先行词前面有the only, the very, any, few, little, no, all, much, every等修饰时。

The only thing that we can do is to give you some money.

The little money (that) he had was stolen.

e. 先行词即有人又有物时。

The novelist and his book that interest me are very famous.

③如果先行词是anyone;someone;everybody等指人的代词时,则应用who 或者whom。

Is there anyone here who can speak English.

④由关系代词whose引导的定语从句:关系代词whose为关系代词who的所有格形式,用作名词的限定语,whose 引导的定语从句既可为限制性的,也可谓非限制性的。先行词既可为人,也可为物,whose和它所修饰的名词在定语从句中可作主语及动词或借此的宾语。如:

The room whose window faces south is mine.=The room, the window of which faces south is mine.

新闻报道的结构一般分为四个部分:标题、导言、主体、结语。
