How kids get along with parents

——A survey shows US kids argue with their parents.

美国孩子是如何跟父母相处的?

What is one thing that would help parents

understand their kids better? More than 8,000

US kids answered this question in an online

poll (投票) by Time for Kids and

https://www.wendangku.net/doc/154663027.html,.

Many US kids –two out of three –said

they get along with their parents. But that doesn’t mean they never disagree. In fact, most kids reported arguing with their parents, at least sometimes. And two out of five kids said arguments sometimes even include shouting at each other.

“It’s certainly normal to disagree and argue,” says D’Arcy Lyness, an American child psychologist (心理学家). “But it’s also important to learn how to do so respectfully (尊重地). Be pati ent. Don’t use a raised, angry voice.”

And not surprisingly, three out of four kids said they had lied to their parents some times. Many said they lie so they would not get in trouble or disappoint (使……失望) their parents. According to Lyness, lying isn’t ju st wrong. It can actually have bad results. Telling the truth builds trust (信任).

Telling the truth, says Lyness, shows maturity (成熟). But older kids actually lie more often than younger ones. Kids ages 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also reported having less fun, feeling less close and not getting along as well with their parents.

According to Lyness, those feelings are not uncommon. As kids become more independent (独立的), they have more areas of disagreement with their parents. But it doesn’t have to be that way. “Kids and parents get along differently at each stage of the journey,” she says. “As kids grow and change, it is important for everybody to change.”

1. What can we learn from Paragraphs 2-3?

A. Few kids argue with their parents.

B. Most kids get along with their parents.

C. It’s normal for kids to shout at their parents.

D. To respect each other means having no arguments.

2. Why do some kids lie to their parents?

A. They are afraid of getting into trouble.

B. They are disappointed with their parents.

C. They don’t think lying is wrong.

D. They don’t trust their parents.

3. According to the second to last paragraph, older kids _____.

A. seldom lie to their parents

B. have more fun in life

C. feel less close to their parents

D. don’t love their parents much

4. What’s the purpose of this article?

A. To explain the best ways for parents and kids to communicate.

B. To explain the reason why kids tell lies to their parents.

C. To stop disagreements between parents and kids.

D. To help parents and kids better understand each other.

Dolphins: please leave us alone

——Swimming with a dolphin may harm the animal.

不要轻易打扰海豚休息哦!

Swimming in the water of Hawaii’s Big

Island is a fun experience. But it can be more

exciting if there are dolphins swimming

around and jumping out of the sea too. For

many people, it would be a wonderful dream

to swim with these lovely animals! However,

this may not be good for dolphins. They may

get hurt because of human interaction (互动).

Dolphins are active and usually look for food at night. In the day, they like to rest in shallow bays (浅湾). Many people think the dolphins are awake during the day as they swim. But when they sleep they rest half of their brain and keep the other half awake to breathe, so they may be s leeping even when they’re swimming in the water.

From 2010 to 2013, spinner dolphins (飞旋海豚) off of Hawaii’s Big Island were exposed to human activities more than 82 percent of the time, according to Julian Tyne, a researcher at Australia’s Murdoch Universi ty.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says disturbing the animals in their near-shore habitat could force them to swim to less favorable places, putting them at risk of attack by sharks and other animals.

More over, when people are around, dolphins become more active. Thus, they can’t get enough sleep. “Disturbing their resting behaviors can actually affect their long term health and the health of the dolphin population,” Ann Garrett of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service told the Associated Press.

As a result, the NOAA wants to make rules to help protect the dolphins.

For example, the agency (机构) may ban swimming with the Hawaii spinner dolphins. Or they may stop people from swimming in shallow bays when the dolphins are resting. Tour operators must also be taught to watch for signs to know when the dolphins are in their resting state.

1. Which of the following about dolphins is NOT true?

A. They spend most of their time sleeping at night.

B. They like to stay in shallow bays during the day.

C. They keep half of their brain awake while sleeping.

D. They may be sleeping even when they’re swimming.

2. When dolphins are disturbed in their near-shore habitat, they _____.

A. would swim to a crowded place

B. could move closer to sharks

C. could become less active

D. could likely sleep longer

3. Which activity is against the rules?

A. Swimming with the Hawaii spinner dolphins.

B. Swimming in bays where the dolphins live.

C. Making signs that show the dolphins’ resting state.

D. Making signs that show where the dolphins are.

4. What does the article mainly talk about?

A. What habits dolphins have.

B. What spinner dolphins are.

C. How the animals live in the sea.

D. How to protect dolphins near the shore.

Our eating habits are very important for good health. (2) Most of us prefer eating sweets and ice cream to eating meat and rice. Sweets and ice cream are not bad for us if we eat them at the end of a meal. If we eat them before a meal, they may take away our appetite (食欲).

It’s important for us to eat our meal at the same time each day. When we feel worried or excited, we may not want to eat. A long time ago, in England, some judges often decided whether a man was telling the truth by giving him some dry bread. 大学英语四级阅读理解(1)We find that bright children are rarely held back by mixed-ability teaching. On the contrary, both their knowledge and experience are enriched. We feel that there are many disadvantages in streaming(把......按能力分班) pupils. It does not take into account the fact that children develop at different rates. It can have a bad effect on both the bright and the not-so-bright child. After all, it can be quite discouraging to be at the bottom of the top grade! Besides, it is rather unreal to grade people just according to their intellectual ability. This is only one aspect of their total personality. We are concerned to develop the abilities of all our pupils to the full, not just their academic ability. We also value personal qualities and social skills, and we find that mixed-ability teaching contributes to all these aspects of learning. In our classrooms, we work in various ways. The pupils often work in groups: this gives them the opportunity to learn to co-operate, to share, and to develop leadership skills. They also learn how to cope with personal problems as well as learning how to think, to make decisions, to analyse and evaluate, and to communicate effectively. The pupils learn from each other as well as from the teacher. Sometimes the pupils work in pairs; sometimes they work on individual tasks and assignments, and they can do this at their own speed. They also have some formal class teaching when this is appropriate. We encourage our pupils to use the library, and we teach them the skills they need in order to do this efficiently. An advanced pupil can do advanced work: it does not matter what age the child is. We expect our pupils to do their best, not their least, and we give them every

What do you do to keep yourself looking good and feeling good? 你是怎样保持自己良好的外在形象和健康的身体状况的? 询问别人怎样做某事的可以用“how do you…..?”也可以用“what do you do to….?”。例如: How did you make the baby stop crying?
