Social problem

Good afternoon fellow classmates,the topic of my speech today is a social problem that many are concern of,the doctor-patient relationship.As you all know,the relationship between Chinese doctors and patients have reached a very dear situation,just 45 days ago it is being reported that a dozen of doctors in Shenzhen was assaulted by the family members of a dead patient and was forced to kneel.And over the past several years there were numerous serious medical violence that resulted in doctors being severely injured.So what are the reason that lead to these tragic events?

For most Chinese,the fee of one large medical treatment or surgery is not a small one,sometimes it can be as much as half of a family’s life saving.So after paying such a heavy price,the patients would have high expectation toward doctors,demanding successful and efficient operations.But they seem to forget that a doctor is not God,although doctors can do their best to minimize the risk but they can not eliminate risk.

In the perspective of doctors,despite high cost of medical treatment,most doctors in China have a low income that does not balance out with their intense and stressful work.It is said that sometimes doctors have to work overnight under heavy mental and physical pressures,efficiency cannot guaranteed.Because of this very few high school graduates have the will to major in the medical field,according to statistics the enroll requirements of medical schools of the top universities in China are significantly lower than other schools.Gradually this resulted in poor ethic and communication skills in doctors.And it seems that medical violence is accelerating this trend.

This problem have not only resulted in the loss of medical workers,enlarging the vacancy in medical supply,but it have also reflected a vacancy in our morality.Although it’s a very long way in solving this problem but I believe China,as rapidly growing nation both in economic and political influence,have the power to do so.As an individual,I think the first step we can take in tackling with the problem is correct the negative propaganda about doctors,they are our wonderful allies in fighting disease not vampires that leech our money.So next time when you or someone around you go to the hospital,give the doctor some encouraging words or understandings instead of a red envelop.I hope my speech today can have some impact on you.
