“云南曲靖〃外教社杯”英语背诵和朗诵

竞赛的通知

各学院:

为了继续推动曲靖师范学院的英语教学改革,提高英语教育教学质量,提高学生的英语口语表达能力,营造良好的英语学习氛围,曲靖师范学院外国语学院、素质教育中心和上海外语教育出版社将举行第六届“云南曲靖〃外教社杯”英语背诵和朗诵竞赛。现将有关事项通知如下:

一、参赛对象

在校全日制本科学生

二、比赛安排

预赛:2011年10月31日以前

由各大学英语任课教师在所任班级组织预赛,一、二年级每班评选1名优秀者、三年级每班评选总数的3%优秀者参加初赛。

各学院教务员将本学院参加初赛的学生信息录入附件2《曲靖师范学院英语背诵朗诵比赛报名表》,于2011年10月31日(星期一)以前报送到外国语学院教务科刘晓燕老师处(教学楼110办公室)。

初赛:2011年11月30 日(星期三)下午14:00开始

复赛:2012年3月28日(星期三)下午14:00开始

决赛:2012年4月24日(星期二)和4月25日(星期三)两天下午的14:00开始在学生会堂举行

三、比赛程序

1.初赛

初赛设专业组和公共组,初赛各赛场决出复赛名额分配如下:

公共组:10个赛场各决出3名选手,共30名;专业组:2个赛场各决出8名选手,共16名;共计46名选手进入复赛。

2.复赛

各赛场由评委教师在开赛前组织学生抽签,按照参赛选手抽签顺序轮流上场比赛。比赛按照不同组别的抽签指定段落比赛,比赛中间不报分数。

复赛各赛场决出决赛名额分配如下:

公共组,取前18名;专业组,取前7名。共计25名选手进入决赛。

3.决赛

决赛包括三项内容:课文段落背诵和朗诵、即兴回答问题、才艺展示。

决赛胜出名额分配如下:

专业组取前1名;公共组取前6名;共计7名选手赴上海学习交流。

五、奖励办法

(一)奖项设置

(二)奖励形式

1.由上海外语教育出版社为获奖选手提供同等价值的上海外语教育出版社的图书或其其他学习用品作为奖品,并颁发获奖证书。

2.指导教师按照获奖等级奖励一定的图书或纪念品并颁发荣誉证书。

3.专业组前1名、公共组前6名选手,共计7名选手(含领队教师)赴上海进行为期4至7天的考察学习交流费用由上海外语教育出版社承担。

六、初赛和复赛

(一)评分标准

英语朗诵评分标准:满分10分

1. 语音清晰、准确,声音洪亮,音量适度,4分;

2. 朗诵流利,语调准确,节奏恰当,具有较强的感染力,4分(每停顿1次扣0.5分);

3. 表情生动,感情丰富,表演能力强,仪态大方,服装整洁美观,2分;

(二)评分方法

1. 初赛和复赛评分均采用10分制,满分为10分;

2. 评委打分原则从7分起,精确到小数点后2位;

3. 初赛和复赛时每组评委为2人,2位评委的平均分为选手的最后得分。

(三)注意事项

1. 各位评委在初赛和复赛前准时按照本安排到曲靖师范学院教学楼外国语学院106办公室领取初赛和复赛相关材料;

2. 各位评委在初赛和复赛前15分钟到指定赛场。参赛学生在初赛和复赛前20分钟到指定赛场参加抽签不到者按弃权处理;

3. 各位评委应认真阅读评分标准和注意事项;

4. 初赛和复赛工作结束后及时上交比赛结果。

七、决赛评分标准

1.总分30分,其中英语背诵朗诵10分、回答问题10分、才艺表演10分。打分采用十分制原则,最高分10分,最低分不低于8分)。

2.赛制分两轮:第一轮比赛包括英语背诵朗诵和回答问题(20分)此轮不公布成绩;第二轮为才艺表演(10分)。两轮得分之和为选手决赛得分(选手得分在下一个选手上台比赛前公布)。

3.计算方法:去掉一个最高分和一个最低分后取平均分,并保留小数点后二位(7个评委)

4.当场公布赴上海文化交流的7名选手名单。

5.英语背诵朗诵评分标准(10分);

(1)语音清晰、准确,声音洪亮,音量适度,4分;

(2)朗诵流利,语调准确,节奏恰当,具有较强的感染力,4分(每停顿1次扣0.5分);

(3)表情生动,感情丰富,表演能力强,仪态大方,服装整洁美观,2分。

6.回答问题评分标准(10分);

(1)紧扣主题4分;

(2)语音清晰,音量适度,语言语调准确、流畅4分;

(3)仪态大方,服装整洁美观2分。

7.英语才艺表演评分标准(10分);

(1)表演内容健康向上,时间2—3分钟,2分;

(2)表演形式独特新颖,2分;

(3)用语发音准确,应用恰当,2分;

(4)台风端正,有现场气氛驾驭能力,能积极与观众进行情感交流、表演的整体感强,现场反应强烈,2分;

(5)服装、造型、道具符合表演内容及形式,营造一个良好的舞台效果,表演过程中精神饱满,姿态优美,形象气质良好,2分。

Text A The Doctor’s Son (Para 14-26)

For two weeks I enjoyed being back in Enosburg. The main topic of interest at home was my father’s new car.

“Let me take it out for a drive.” I said.

My father agreed, but not without his usual warning. “Be careful.”

I glared at him. “Sam, I’m sick of being treated like a child. I’m in college now. Don’t you think I know how to drive?”

I could see the h urt in my father’s face, and I remembered how much he hated it whenever I called him “Sam.”

“All right then,” he replied.

I hopped into the car and headed down the road, savoring the beauty of Vermont countryside. My mind was wandering. At a busy intersection, I hit the car right in front of mine before I knew it.

The woman in the car jumped out screaming: “You idiot! Why didn’t you look where you were going?”

I surveyed the damage. Both cars had sustained serious dents.

I sat there like a guilty child as t he woman continued complaining. “It’s your fault,” she shouted. I couldn’t protest. My knees began to shake. I choked back my tears.

“Do you have insurance? Can you pay for this? Who are you?” she kept asking. “Who are you?”

I panicked and, without thinkin g, shouted, “I’m Doctor Eppley’s son.”

I sat there stunned. I couldn’t believe what I had just said. Almost immediately, the woman’s frown became a smile of recognition. “I’m sorry,” she replied, “I didn’t realize who you were.”

Unit 7 Relationships and Communication

Text A How Well Can We Listen? (Para 5-6) To become a good listener begins with concentration. That looks easy on the surface. In too many cases, we have to listen to other people with physical and mental distractions around us. The ring of the telephone, the slam of a door or other human voices are some of the common physical distractions. The mental distractions in one’s own mind, on the other hand, are much more difficult to overcome, for many reasons. A speaker may not able to k eep pace with the working of the listener’s mind. The average person’s rate of thinking is faster than the average rate of speech. With much free time left at their disposal, the listeners are likely to be carried away by their own thoughts and they soon lose their way. That is where the problem lies: listening too quickly.

Sometimes, the listener tends to skip part of what is being said unconsciously. Since each person has his own range of interests, when the speaker talks about something that is of no per sonal interest or concern to him, he would “switch off the talking.” Though he

might nod his head or respond with gestures, his mind is wandering. This automatic control exercises its influence especially when the topic is too boring. (208 words)

Text A How Deep Is Your Love? (Para7-9)

Love was a magnificent building I had built on the foundation of friendship. It took time to blossom. It took a lot of understanding, loads of sharing and caring, and plenty of affection to become what it is today. And it meant a meeting of minds. You might say that I belong to the traditional school of romance. But in my opinion, love needs to be nurtured.

And it has to be distinguished from the intense but short-lived love or the pleasures of the flesh.

Our parents’ generation was fed lavishly with ideals. It was an era of constraints, restraints, respect, admiration, and plenty of romance. The long skirts, the quiet and unpretentious looks, the curled long hair, the calmness, the shy glance — these are all so frequently remindful of a bygone era. An age when the distance between the sexes somehow managed to help preserve the holiness of love and relationships.

The younger generation, with its openness and fading lines of proximity has jumped on the bandwagon of love with so much haste that it is difficult for them to distinguish between physical attraction and mental compatibilities. What we have been exposed to via the media have fast paced our sensibilities so much that taking things slow requires effort on our parts.

Text A Culture shock (Para 5)

People have a way of accepting their culture as both the best and the only way of doing things. This is perfectly normal and understandable. To this attitude we give the name ethnocentrism, a belief that not only the culture but the race and the nation form the center of the world. Individuals identify themselves with their own group to the extent that any critical comment is taken as a remark which is rude to the individual as well as to the group. If you criticize my country, you are criticizing me; if you criticize me, you are criticizing my country. Along with this attitude goes the tendency to attribute all individual peculiarities as national characteristics. For instance, if an American does something odd or anti-social in a foreign country which back home would be considered a purely individual act, this is now considered a national trait. He acts that way not because he is Joe Doaks but because he is an American. Instead of being censured as an individual, his country is censured. It is thus best to recognize that ethnocentrism is a permanent characteristic of national groups. Even if a national criticizes some aspect of

his own culture, the foreigner should listen but not enter into the criticism. (208 words)

How to Be a Good Listener(Para 3-7)

Here is some advice if you could like to be a good conversationalist: Be an attentive listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves. To be interesting, be interested. Ask questions that other people will enjoy answering. Encourage them to talk about themselves and what they have done.

Remember that the people you are talking to are a hundred times more interested in themselves and their problems than they are in you and your problems. When someone shares information with you, put yourself in his shoes. Doing this will allow the two of you to discover solutions more eas ily and will also help you appreciate a perspective different from your own.

Diogenes, the Greek philosopher who is supposed to have lived in a barrel, said, “The reason why we have two ears and only one mouth is that we may listen more and talk less!”

Do you know how to get on with people? Do you ever feel shy? What situation makes you feel shy? Do you sometimes feel as if you don't know how to interest and amuse people and have conversations with them? Do you search desperately in your head for something to say? Do people find an excuse to leave you as soon as they can?

Feeling the Pinch (Para 4-5)

My father agreed to give me a small loan and promised he would send money whenever he could to help me out. So far he has stuck to his promise, which is a big help to me. My mother, on the other hand, has been a little more practical by sending me food, medicine, and other necessities. She even bought me brand new snow tires for Christmas, because she knew I could never afford them. My parents' help has relieved a little of my financial burden, but it will be a long while before I can buy something freely for myself like I used to in high school.

I have been here for almost three months and every day has been a struggle for me. Even though my loans were approved, I still have to come up with money to fix my car, which always seems to be breaking down, to pay my phone bill, which seems to get more expensive every month, and to buy food, so I will not go hungry if I miss a meal in my meal plan. Another struggle I have to look forward to in the future is paying off all the loans I have just to go to this school. Sometimes, I wonder if all this money borrowing and penny-pinching is worth it, but then I realize that without a good education I would have no hope of ever making enough money to survive in the real world. Unit 5 What’s Globalization(Para 4 - 5)

The question has become increasingly relevant as to what is the proper balance between the cultural heritage and the globalization that threatens to unify the world in one model. That model at this stage of the world economy seems clearly the American one, as the US is now leading the world economy, almost without any challenge. The American style of capitalism is taking the world over by storm with its emphasis on enterprise, the market force and the capital market.

To my mind, however, there are no conquerors and the conquered in the march of globalization fueled by the technological and economic development. The world is infinitely more exciting today—the Internet linking almost everyone everywhere, cellular phones rising up in places far and near, and yes, McDonald's in France and French wines in China. The best of globalization is to have the modern technology and efficiency while preserving the cultural heritage and the way of life the people treasure, and to make the latter more accessible to the people beyond their original geographic boundaries. In a word, it is making the best from all over the world available everywhere in the world. (193 words)

Unit 7 The Mystery of the White Gardenia (Para 1-3)Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 12, a white gardenia was delivered to my house. No card or note came with it. Calls to the florist were always in vain—it was a cash purcha se. After a while I stopped trying to discover the sender’s identity and just delighted in the beauty and heady perfume of that one magical, perfect white flower nestled in soft pink tissue paper.

But I never stopped imagining who the anonymous giver might be. Some of my happiest moments were spent daydreaming about someone wonderful and exciting but too shy or eccentric to make know his or her identity.

My mother contributed to these imaginations. She’d ask me if there was someone for whom I had done a special kindness who might be showing appreciation. Perhaps the neighbor I’d helped when she was unloading a car full of groceries. Or maybe it was the old man across the street whose mail I retrieved during the winter so he wouldn’t have to venture down his icy steps. As a teen-ager, though, I had more fun speculating that it might be a boy I had a crush on or one who had noticed me even I didn’t know him. (208 words)

Unit 8 The Message Behind the Smile (Para 2-4)

Child psychologists report that babies start smiling so early in life (often as early as three weeks) that this action is unlikely to have been picked up from parents. Apparently the act of wrinkling up the mouth functions as a vital survival mechanism: by making the baby appear attractive, a smile reduces the chance that it will be abandoned by the mother.

While smiling may start as instinctive behaviour, it is soon shaped by social situations. By the time we are four years old, it is no longer a sign of openly expressed pleasure. Instead, it can be produced artificially to please others. According to Dr. Roger Lambb of Oxford University, "Conversational signals become habitual and just as automatic as emotional expressions. It is very difficult for adult not to smile and nod their heads when listening to someone's conversation."

The problems start when people of different ages, sexes, and cultures try to smile encouragingly at each other, for although the basic expression is universally recognized, each social group develops its own system of conversational signals. A typical British "wry smile", for example, involving raising one corner of the mouth and lowering the other, is likely to be incomprehensible to people of most other nationalities. (205 words)

Unit 11 The Two Roads (Para 2-5)

The days of his youth appeared like dreams before him, and he recalled the serious moment when his father placed him at the entrance of the two roads-one leading to a peaceful, sunny place, covered with flowers, fruits and resounding with soft, sweet songs;the other leading to a deep, dark cave, which was endless,where devils and poisonous snakes hissed and crawled.

He looked towards the sky and cried painfully, ″O youth, return!O my father, place me once more at the entrance to life, and I'll choose the better way!″But both his father and the days of his youth had passed away.

He saw the lights flowing away in the darkness. These were the days of his wasted life; he saw a star fall from the sky and disappear, and this was the symbol of himself. His remorse, which was like a sharp arrow, struck deeply into his heart. Then he remembered his friends in his childhood, who entered on life with him. But they had made their way to success and were now honoured and happy on this New Year's night.

The clock in the high church tower struck and the sound made him remember his parents' early love for him. They had taught him and prayed to God for his good. But he chose the wrong way. With shame and grief he dared no longer look towards that heaven where his father lived. His darkened eyes were full of tears, and with a despairing effort, he burst out a cry: "Come back, my early days! Come back!" (266 words)

Unit 10 A Horse and Two Goats (Para 9-15) The old man reacted to the relaxed atmosphere by smiling himself, and pleaded, "Please go away, sir. I know nothing. Our village has always had a clean record. Must be the other village."

"Please try to understand me," the American tourist said. "I arrived three weeks ago and have traveled five thousand miles since, seeing your wonderful country."

Then he went on to explain at length, uttering each syllable carefully, what brought him to this country, how much he liked it, what he did at home, how he had planned for years to visit India, the dream of his life and so forth — every now and then pausing to smile politely. The old man smiled back but said nothing. Then he turned to go.

The other seized his shoulder and said earnestly, "Is this statue yours? Will you sell it to me?"

The old man realized that the other was referring to the horse. He thought for a second and then related in detail that the horse had been there for a very long time and that it would appear as the tenth avatar at the end of the Yuga, when the world would be destroyed, and the Redeemer would come in the form of a horse to help the good and punish the evil.

"And this horse will come to life then," he continued, "and that is why this is the most sacred village in the whole world."

A conversation leading to mutual mystification followed, with the Indian chattering away about various avatars of God Vishnu and the American trying to drive a bargain for the purchase of the statue. (271 words)

A Greek to Remember Diogenes was a famous Greek philosopher of the fourth century B. C., who established the philosophy of cynicism. He often walked about in the daytime holding a lighted lantern, peering around as if he were looking for something. When questioned about his odd behavior, he would reply, "I am searching for an honest man." Diogenes held that the good man was self-sufficient and did not require material comforts or wealth. He believed that wealth and possessions constrained humanity's natural state of freedom. In keeping with his philosophy, he was perfectly satisfied with making his home in a large tub discarded from the temple of Cybele, the goddess of nature. This earthen tub, called a pithos, and formerly been used for holding wine or oil for the sacrifices at the temple. One day, Alexander the Great, conqueror of half the civilized world, saw Diogenes sitting in this tub in the sunshine. So the king, surrounded by his countries, approached Diogenes and said, "I am Alexander the Great." The philosopher replied rather contemptuously, "I am Diogenes, the Cynic." Alexander then asked him if he could help him in any way." Yes, "shot back Diogenes, "don't stand between me and the sun." A surprised Alexander then replied quickly, "If I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes."

一直靠着看论坛上其他人的帖子学习经验,所谓前人栽树后人乘凉,我也写写我的经验给后面的战友一点启示。 英语 80分,阅读错 1个,完型填空错 8个。客观 54分。 先说说个人情况,四级 560,六级 540(下面有人说炫耀,我写出来只是供参考个人基础,因为在牛人,牛校的学生面前太一般,下面的文章也是,牛人看过就罢了吧个人基础还是可以的,阅读是强项,写作偏弱。 正文分几个部分写:使用的书籍、备战过程和题型分析 (一书籍 1、新东方单词红宝书:新版的是乱序的,绿色的,不过我个人比较喜欢按顺序背就买了这个版本,因为按着顺序有助于回忆一些类似的单词。这本单词书五星推荐。 2、张剑阅读 150篇(基础训练:张剑的阅读很多人说出题思路很奇怪,没意思,其实我当时做的时候也是觉得题目有些太偏,找一些不起眼的句子出题目,所以错得也是蛮多的。后来逐渐的看了些帖子,想明白了一件事,也希望大家在准备阅读的时候注意:一般的阅读材料,不要在乎你错多错少,这不是关键,重要的是你理清他的行文思路,看懂文章说了些什么,知道中心大意和每一段的大致意思,同时把一些生词 (大纲出现的为主记下来,这篇就算过了,以后看不看无所谓的。上面是总的思路, 用其他的阅读书也这么做就好了。这本阅读三星推荐。 3、张剑阅读 150篇(提高训练:比基础版稍微编排的用心点,题目没那么怪异,和真题思路也接近了一些。做的时候总的思路还是按上面的。这本阅读四星推荐。 4、张剑新题型:专门的新题型的书比较少,这本比新东方的稍微好点,因为新东方我也买了,个人觉得很烂,字体很独特,纸张也不好,我用张剑系列的一大原因就是质量好O(∩ _∩ O~。这本书三星半推荐。
