Children are our future, and it’s up to us to arm them with tools to succeed. Sadly, today’s children are armed with more dangerous tools like weapons, drugs and gangs. Once a relatively peaceful environment, many schoolyards of today are becoming unsafe for both students and teachers.

Home schools are available to give you choices. Home schooling provides top-quality education, flexibility, and freedom to create your own schedule. At Heritage Home School we believe the choice should be yours.

Thanks in part to modern technology, home schooling information is becoming

readily available across our nation. A recent study by the ITBS (Lowa Tests of Basic Skills) and TAP (Tests of Achievement and Proficiency) shows us that students of home schools do particularly well when compared with the nationwide average. In every subject at every grade level, students of home schooling scored obviously higher than those in public and private schools.

If you are new to home schooling, you may be as king yourself, “will home schools really work for my children?”

Fact: A nationwide study using a random selection of 1,516 families found students of home schooling to be scoring, on average, at or above the 80th percentile in all areas on standard achievement test.

Note: The national average on standardized achievement tests is the 50th percentile.

Working together, the staff at Heritage Home School brings 65 years of experience in home schooling curriculum. We’ve placed students in the top 2% of the nati on in math and many are successfully moving on to college.

One study found that of the home schooled adults, 0% were unemployed, 0% were on welfare, 94% said home education prepared them to be independent persons.

From the moment that an animal is born it has to make decisions .It has to decide which of the things around it are for eating , and which are to be avoided ; when to attack and when to run away .The animal is , in fact , playing a very dangerous game with its environment , a game in which it must make a decision—a matter of life or death .

Animals’ ability to act reasonably is believed to come partly from what we may call “genetic (遗传性的)learning” , which is different from the individual (个体的) learning that an animal does in the course of its own lifetime .Genetic learning is learning by a species —animals of the same kind—as a whole , and it is achieved by selection of those members of each generation that happen to act in the right way .However, the role of genetic learning depends upon how similar the future environment is to the past. The more important individual experience is likely to be , the less important is genetic learning as a means of getting over the problems of the survival game.Because most animals live in ever changing environments from one generation to the next , it is not surprising to find that very few species indeed depend wholly upon genetic learning.

In the great majority of animals, their particular ways of acting in a new environment are a compound(复合体)of individual experience added to the action patterns animals are born with. That is why animals can survive.

D.animals cannot get over problems on their on their own

52.Animals’ living on generation after generation depends on__________.

A.their natural action pattern with their own experience

B.the lessons they have learnt during their lifetime

C.their experience in particular environments

D.the knowledge passed on by their parents

By the time the Montgomery Improvement Association chose the 26-year-old Martin Luther King, Jr as its leader, the hours-old bus boycott by the black citizens of Montgomery, Alabama, was already a great success.King would later write that his unexpected call to leadership "happened so quickly that I did not have time to think it through." "It is likely that if I had, I would have turned down the nomination (提名)."

Although press reports at the time paid much attention to his public speaking skills, King was actually an unwilling leader of a movement started by others. His later writings and private letters show that he doubted the movement at that time.In the early days of his taking part, King was troubled by telephone threats, disagreement within the black community and Montgomery's "get tough" policy. One night, as he considered ways to "move out of the picture without appearing a coward(懦夫)," he began to pray aloud and, at that moment, "experienced the presence of the God as I had never experienced him before."

He would later admit that when the boycott began, he didn't firmly believe in Gandhian(甘地)principles.Although he had been introduced to those in college, he had remained doubtful."I thought the only way we could solve our problem of segregation(种族隔离)was an armed revolution," he recalled.

Only after his home was bombed in late January did King reconsider his views on violence.(At the time, he was looking for a gun permit and was protected by armed bodyguards.)Competing with each other to influence King were two pacifists(和平主义者): Bayard Rustin and the Rev.Glenn E.Smiley.Rustin was shocked to discover a gun in King's house, while Smiley told fellow pacifists that King's home was "an arsenal(军火库)".

By the time the Supreme Court(最高法院)said that the bus company was wrong to separate blacks from whites in November 1956, King had been permanently changed. "Living through the real experience of the protest, non-violence became more than a method to which I gave intellectual assent(同意)," he would later explain."It became a commitment(约束)to a way of life."

After the boycott, King allowed himself to think deeply about his growing fame and his own self doubts."To be honest, I'm worried to death," he said."A man who succeeds at 27 has a difficult job ahead.People will be expecting me to pull rabbits out of the hat for the rest of my life."

53.What did King think of his nomination as leader of the Montgomery Boycott?

A.He hadn't expected it. B.He had to think about it carefully. C.He would refuse to accept it. D.He was prepared to accept it.54.Which of the following was the immediate cause that made King change his view on violence?

A.The education he received in college.

B. His belief in the Gandhian principles.

C.The attack on his home. D.The influence of two active non-violence men.

55.What happened to King after he successfully led the boycott against the bus company?

A.He was worried to death. B.He knew he would be murdered.

C.He firmly believed in non-violence. D.He was proud of being famous at an early age.

56.What did King mean by the sentence "People will be expecting me to pull rabbits out of the hat

for the rest of my life"?

A.His dream was to become a magician.

B.Many people were admiring his great success.

C.More and more people began to trust him.

D.People would expect him always to succeed.

Turning on the TV, a wonderful scene comes to your eyes-a group of men, tall, strong and handsome, and women, young, beautiful and attractive, too. Together they eat in the finest restaurants, traveling everywhere around the world by luxurious planes and pleasure-ships. They are models.

Do you envy them? What sort of life are models leading? Is it a worthwhile life for a young lady or a young man?

A few models are well-known actors or actresses who can make a big money only by showing themselves off in commercials. But the majority of them are just curious to see what it is like. They’d like to be models just because they are attracted by what they imagine-Models earn a lot of money and lead a glorious life. This is true for those who are very successful. However, most models find it difficult to get work. Very few can earn enough to live on, and for all models their expenses are high. Their agents claim about 20% of the earnings, and no model will get very far without a clever agent. Besides, they have to buy good clothing. They also have to pay to travel to interviews and reach the places where the work is to be done.

Interviews for a model job are known as cattle-markets in the modeling world, and not without a good reason. A top model can choose her work, demand and receive

high fees and have her expenses paid. But for most models, the situation is quite different. An agent or employer inspects each model much as a farmer inspects cattle at a market. Intelligence, qualifications and personal characteristics count for little against good looks and the right figure. For all except the very few lucky ones, the life of a model is a continual search for work, trying to sell herself or himself in the face of fierce competition and, sometimes, not particularly moral standards on the part of some employers.

Immigration officials at airport look suspiciously at a girl whose passport shows her occupation as “Model”, and these are men and women of considerable experience of the world. It comes as no surprise to find that some models prefer to put “Secretary” or “Businessman” as their jobs in their passports.

Modeling is a changeable world with great rewards for a tiny minority but not for the majority.

57.For models, their looks and figures are ___________, compared with their good qualifications and intelligence.

A.more important B.less needed

C.less essential D.more looked down upon

58.Which of the following can lead you to believe according to the passage?

A.A model’s traveling expenses are usually paid by his employer.

B.To be a model, good looks are the most important qualification.

C.Most models have a fairly easy way of life with high pay.

D.A model can hardly be successful without a good agent.

59.Models often put “Secretary” or “Businessmen” instead of “Model” in their passports because

____________________.

A.they want to avoid being stopped to sign their names by fans

B.a person with the occupation of a model is easily attacked by black societies C.models are sometimes looked down upon

D.secretaries and businessmen are free of Customs duty

60.What may be the author’s attitude toward modelling?

A.It is a worthwhile life for a young lady or a young man.

B.He is in favor of young people to try modeling.

C.Before being crazy about a model job, young people should be aware of the difficulties.

D.It is a fled in which everyone has a great chance to succeed.

Dear Mr. Zhang,

We have held a discussion about whether it is good or not for a top student to share a desk with a slower student.

Some are for the idea. As they know, everyone has strengths as well as weaknesses. Although they are not good at lessons, they might do well in other fields like sports or arts. Therefore, they can learn from each other and they may develop a friendship. In addition, top students can help slower ones gain self-confidence by helping them with their lessons, which benefits them all.

However, others don’t hold the same view. They think some slower students are always making trouble, such as keeping talking in class, breaking school rules, which may lead to them forming the bad habits. Besides, slower students often ask top students questions, which has a bad effect on their studies.

In my opinion, I’d like to choose to share a desk with a slower student

so that we can learn from each other and make progress together.

A I have had all kinds of interesting neighbors since the early days of my life. When I was a baby I would stand in my wooden crib(婴儿床) and watch the world go by through the window. Some neighbors watched me watching the world go by with by big, wondering eyes and found me very interesting. They used to call me “the beauty at the window”. The early neighbors I could remember were from the second house I lived in. Peter and Paul were twins. We went to play school together although they were a year older than me. I well remember the Alsatian they had which ran into me when I was invited to their fifth birthday party. Needless to say, I was well-known for my loud screams after the party. But they said the pet was scared of my screams and didn’t appear until the party was over. Peter and Paul were the first boys who encouraged me to climb the gate. I could never tell the difference between boy and girl behaviors—I just did what I thought was fun. Not only did I have a great time performing that first climb, I also got my skirts dirty, and was criticized by my mother. The Japanese neighbors I had living in this same house were my favorite, as they introduced me to sea-salt baked shrimps (烤虾) which were so crisp that you could eat the shrimp totally. They gave me some seaweed for my birthday. Thankfully, no other member in my family enjoyed the seaweed as I did. Perhaps what my mother used to joke to me was true, that I was picked up out of the dustbin that belonged to a Japanese home. Maybe sometimes it is difficult to find good neighbors in this society. But all it takes is a spark(火花) to get a fire going. I have decided to be that spark wherever I live and pass love on to my neighbors. 21. We can guess "the Alsatian" in the twin brothers' home is ___________. A. a small child B. an interesting toy C. a dog D. a bicycle 22. From the passage we can know that the author___________. A. enjoyed the Japanese neighbors' cooking style most B. had difficulty getting on with the twin brothers' family C. was described as interesting when playing with boys D. had many neighbors that worked in restaurants 23. What can we infer from the passage? A. The author often moved to other places. B. Peter and Paul liked to play tricks on others. C. The neighbors the author had were good at cooking. D.
