The Impact of Globalization on Culture

Good morning, ladies and gentelman,

Nice to see you again!

Today, my topic is the impact of globalization on traditional Chinse culture. I divided the impact into two parts: the good and the bad. And I am going to explain it from 4 aspects: language, views, architecture and diet.

With the development of globalization, people have more opportunities to cooperate and exchange. Many people believe that globalization benefits the development of their native culture since people can experience culture from different nations during the international cooperation and international exchange. While conceding globalization is to some extent beneficial to culture. I think globalization likes a double-edged sword, which is not only an opportunity, but also a challenge. In the first place, native language which is the most important part of culture has been threatened by English which is regarded as the worldwide medium of communication due to globalization. In China, the good English proficiency has become a necessary qualification when an institution or a company recruits a new staff in order to meet the need of globalization. It seems to be reasonable that language uniformity is an inevitable result

from globalization. But, if we ignore this threat, it is not hard to image that our own language will be eliminated one day.

In the second place, some traditional views which are important parts of native culture have been influenced by western culture because of globalization. For instance, for the young generations, due to the impact of western culture, they acceped more advanced ideas, but some young people start to admire the extreme individualism and the hedonism which are harmful to the development of society.

Third,in the last century, we used to call the western-style building 'Xiao Yang Fang'. But now, we turn to call our traditional houses 'Retro buildings'. Maybe this is just the victory of cultural invation from western countries.

Finally, globalization has changed our Chinse diets. A good example is that steak, salad and many western food has swept the country. Thanks to globalization, more and more people go to western restaurants become a fashion. However, at the same time , dumplings and noodles from China are holding more and more people 's appetite in western countries.

In a conclusion, globalization is a double-edged sword, which is not only an opportunity, but also a challenge. We should realize these

influnces while taking part in the international cooperation and exchange and should try our best to reduce them. Only in this way, can we promote the development of our native traditional culture.
