二.课文解读:

The use of “while” and “when”.

1.“While” means “during the time that something is happening”or “at the same time as sth. is happening” . 只用于指一个时间段(只能与延续性动词连用),表示主句与从句动作同时发生。“while”也可以作为名词来使用,表示“一段时间,一会儿”,如:for a while, after

a while

2.“When” means “at or during the time that…”.它既可指一个时间点,又可指一个时间段;可与延续性动词连用,也可与非延续性动词连用。

3. While you were enjoying your trip to Mount Tai, (I was busy preparing for my exams.)(引导词)从句主句

当你们在享受泰山旅行的时候,我正忙着为考试做准备。

as, when, while的区别

㈠在when引导的时间状语从句中,其谓语动词可以是延续性的,也可以是非延续性的,而while从句中的动词必须是延续性动词。如:

a. When the teacher came in, we were talking. (come为短暂性动词,所以只能用when.)

当此句改变主从句的位置时,则为:

While we were talking, the teacher came in.

㈡when 引导的时间状语从句的动作和主句的动作可以是同时发生,也可以是先后发生;while 引导的时间状语从句的动作和主句的动作同时发生。

㈢由when引导的时间状语从句,多用一般时态。主句用过去进行时,从句应用一般过去时;主句用一般将来时,从句要用一般现在时;如果从句和主句的动作同时发生,两句都用过去进行时的时候,多用while引导,如:

①They were singing when I came in.(主句用过去进行时,从句用一般过去时。)

②I will call you when I arrive Beijing.(时间状语从句出现一般将来时,须用一般现在时代替,主句还是用一般将来时。)

③They were singing while we were dancing. (从句和主句都用过去进行时,用while 引导。)

㈣如主句谓语动词表示的是短暂动作,从句时间状语指一段时间,when /while /as 三者可通用。Eg:

Peter came in while /as when I was watching TV.当Peter进来的时候我正在看电视。

I was watching TV when Peter came in. 当Peter进来时我正在看电视。

㈤特殊用法:as多用于平行结构。表示两个动作同时发生:一个主语同时进行两个动作,表示“一边。。。一边”,when可用作并列连词,表示“(突然,这时候)”;while也用作并列连词,表示“而”“却”(表示对比)
