the importance of English for postgraduates

7.interviewA: I’m xxx from Voice of CUMT ,A recent survey shows that in China ,some postgraduates do not like learning English, we are going to interview some students.

A: Hello, I’m xxx from Voice of CUMT, we are doing a survey about “the importance of English for postgraduates”, could you spare some time to answer questions? B: Of course!

A: Most of the students in China can speak little English. They think English is so difficult for them to learn it, at the same time, they also think it is useless in their lives. Do you think so?

B: To me, English is a subject. Though it is so difficult, I have to learn it carefully .I remember I disliked English at all when I studied it for the first time. But now, I am good at English .Because I know English is very important in our lives. Many essays are writen in English, if I don’t learn English, I can’t reach the advanced technology.

C: English not only can make our country stronger, but it also can make all the people in China much cleverer. As we all know, many countries are stronger than ours. And most of the people in China are trying their best to learn other country's skills. So they should speak English.

A: There can be no doubt that English is one of the world's most widely used languages. We all know English is very important, do you think English is still important for postgraduates? Why or why not?

B: Yeah! I think English is very important in our life because it's one of the way for us to communicate and know the knowledge in the world. In our life or our study, it is very useful. in my opinion, learning languages is very important. C: I think language is not only the tools of connecting with each other, but also a great thing that widens our scene and improve our living. the purpose of learning English is to connect with others ,then help us to know more about foreign knowledge .TO do that ,we can find something wrong about ourselves and take something excellent abroad.

A: Frankly speaking, it is highly essential to know the language for communication. In general, the most popular language is English. But as postgraduates can we use English to communicate in our daily life ?

B: In our daily life, we communicate in Chinese, but in this computer age, English is the only language that anyone can understand. So to say, it has become as an ideal language for expressing our feelings. First, we have to learn the language and then we have to gain fluency in the language. Unless we have the fluency in English language, it would not be possible to work with the computer. If we do not know English, then we would be in need of a translator to do the daily job.

C: English has in fact become the language of international cooperation is science and technology. The most advanced resuits in space, nuclear and computer research are published in it. A scientist who speaks and writes English is in closer touch with the scientists in other countries than one who doesn't.

A: We know many engineering students don’t like learning English. Are you engineering students?

B and C: YES! B: In order to master the engineering knowledge and skills better, engineering students should own the English language competence. Most of the scientific papers or journals in the world are written in English.

A: Knowing English opens job and employment opportunities in many countries and markets. Is it the same for engineering students?

B: Many companies offer employment opportunities to those who understand and communicate in English .Engineering students graduate from the college and become real engineers, they will find that English appears even more crucial than it used to be. Engineers usually work in groups since their task can seldom be solved by an individual.

A: In order to master the engineering knowledge and skills better, engineering students should own the English language competence. There is no need for them to speak English well, do you think so?

C: The property of their work determines that being an engineer needs to cooperate and communicate with different people from different part of the world. In order to understand and coordinate with their colleagues and accomplish their projects fluently, engineers have to speak good English.

A: Yeah! B eijing’s successful bid for the 2008 olympic games encourages more people to learn English. How can we postgraduates learn English well?

B: At first, I think we should try to speak as much as we can. Then we should listen to English as often as possible in and out of class and write down the important things the teacher teaches in class.

C: For me, I like to listen to the English songs. I think it’s easy to learn English.

A: In fact, there is no good and easy way to learn English well. But there is nothing difficult if we put our heart into it, yes?
