第二节:读后续写(满分25分)

Possible version 1:

Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation. Jenny didn’t answer. How could she explain about the watch and its magic? No one could understand. No one could believe. “But I saw you wearing it yesterday,” Miss Walker gently reminded him. For a moment Lee remained silent and then he apologized he had just remembered that. Jenny was relieved saying she had found it on the way home and decided to return it after the speech. Everybody was puzzled and asked why. Jenny again was speechless. [78 words]

At that, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first. Jenny walked slowly to the front. She couldn’t think properly. All round her, a sea of faces was watching. She felt so fr ightened and the watch didn’t seem magical at all. Suddenly she saw Miss Walker’s encouraging eyes. Jenny took a deep breath. “I’m going to talk about swimming…” Ten minutes later the whole class stood up applauding Jenny’s wonderful speech. Jenny smiled as she eventually realized the real source of confidence. [72 words] Possible version 2:

Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation. Embarrassed, Jenny didn’t say anything. Dead silence suddenly fell. Then came Miss Walker’s voice. “Why is Lee’s watch on your wrist?” Jenny hesitated for a while and decided to tell everybody about the truth. However, thinking of the well-prepared speech, the magic of the watch, she changed her mind. “But Miss Walker, could I give the speech first and then explain?” She made a request in a tone of begging. [70 words]

At that, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first. Jenny made her way to the platform with every confidence. Words began to flood out of her. “How could she make it? We’ve never seen Jenny give so terrific a speech.” Whispers went around the classroom, and even Miss Walker nodded with approval. Immediately Jenny finished her speech, a storm of applause erupted from the class. Relieved, Jenny told everyone the truth, and especially the magic of the watch. “But it’s just an ordinary watch with no magic”, Lee announced. [80 words]

听力部分录音文稿:

(Text 1)

W: Oh, no! I’ve left my new hat somewhere.

M: I don’t remember you having it at lunch in the restaurant. You must have left it in your car.

(Text 2)

M: What time is it by your watch? Mine reads 9:15.

W: Your watch is 2 hours slow.

(Text 3)

M: What do you think about traveling by ferry to France?

W: The kids would love it, but I get seasick. The train is quicker and goes all the way.

That’s the best way to see the countryside.

(Text 4)

M: What’s wrong, Rachel? You aren’t looking yourself!

W: My mum’s got a job in Liverpool! I’ve finally made friends after years of loneliness here. Now off we go again. Why can’t my mum have a steady job?

(Text 5)

M: Home at last ! That was the last time we had a holiday in the Lake District.

W: It was beauti ful! At least it didn’t snow.

M: I would have preferred snow to constant rain. We had never seen the sun there! (Text 6)

W: I wish I could play music like you! When did you learn to play the guitar?

M: Oh, I’ve been playing since I was eight, and I’m seve nteen years old now. During that time I learned to play the drum too.

W: What about it? That must be really difficult.

M: In the beginning, it really was, but after a few lessons I got better. Practice makes perfect, you know. For me, the most difficult is the piano. I once tried it, but gave up.

(Text 7)

M: Hi, very glad to meet you here.

W: Hi, have we met before?

M: Aren’t you the woman who gave the computer lecture at the city library last winter? W: Yes, it’s me. You look familiar. Were you there in m y class then?

M: Yes, sure. I’m so glad I took your lecture. And I’ve benefited quite a lot from it. W: Thanks. It’s also rewarding for me to do something meaningful in my spare time.

M: Oh, I thought you were an IT engineer or something like an expert in this profession. W: Not exactly, but I know a bit about computer.

M: I thought that it would be impossible for me to learn how to use a computer at my age, but now I’m excha nging e-mails with my grandchildren. They say I am learning fast and well. It’s the happiest thing after my retirement.

W: That’s great. Giving a lecture after work is a good experience for me, because that is a change of pace from my daytime job as a sales representative.

M: That’s right.

(Text8)

M: Hey, Julie, haven’t seen you for a while. How is everything?

W: Hi, Gale. Fine, thank you.

M: Why don’t you travel together with us to work? As you know, Cathy will leave our company next month for further education, so we’ve got a spare seat in my car.

W: Thanks, Gale, but I’ve found a suitable ride partner, Ms. Gomez. She is going to move near my apartment next week. So you see it’ll be convenient for a ride.

M: Oh, really? That’s too bad that you couldn’t join us but it’s good you’re taking

a car with her. I used to work with her in the marketing department.

W: Oh, did you? I don’t know much about her, but I know for sure that she is never late for appointments.

M: Yes, right. She was doing well in marketing and popular with the colleagues.

W: That’s very nice.

(Text 9)

M: Hi! You seem busy.

W: Hi! You can’t imagine what I have to finish by next Monday! This literature course is so difficult! I have to read two novels by next Monday and hand in a 3000-word essay by next Friday.

M: So you don’t want to come to an exhibition with me this Saturday?

W: I’d love to, but I’m already behind with my writing class because I had a cold for

a week and missed a few lessons. You seem to have loads of free time.

M: Well, w e just don’t have as much academic work as you. My college life is colourful compared with yours. There’re varieties of live performances as an art major.

W: Yes. I’m bored with the life of reading and writing every day.

M: Hey. Why don’t we stop tal king? Just work now. If you have finished everything by the 16th, we could go to that new play.

W: OK. I’ll try. And I don’t want to miss the student party on the 28th, so I’d better get working.

(Text 10)

M: Today we are visiting Woodhill Shelter -- the most unusual animal shelter in Britain.

It does not house wild animals rescued from zoos or sea creatures from ocean parks.

What it does have is a lot of lucky and happy cows, pigs, goats, sheep and chickens rescued from becoming your lunch by animal rights groups.

The shelter was set up by Jill and Ben Smith. Neither of them eats animal products, but lives instead on a plant-based diet. They say it is a kinder and better way to live.

The shelter wasn’t much visited until 3 years after it was built, a nd now it has large numbers of followers.

All the farm workers are volunteers without pay, but get free lunch and coffee in return for their work. If you want more information about the farm, you can phone 6978325.

And if you want to become a volunteer, you must visit the website and fill in the online form. Posts are not accepted because letters are easy to lose.
