modules and BAPIs to be used and reused in new applications. No modifications or recoding are necessary on the SAP R/3 system. This allows developers to easily read, write, and enrich SAP transactions while shielding them from the complexities of the SAP computing environment. iWay Adapters for SAP are well suited for business process improvement initiatives that replace manual business processes with automatic transaction handling and
application-to-application integration, thus dramatically reducing error rates and information lag times. Further, because the SAP Adapters simplify transaction handling for the developer, they significantly reduce the time, cost, and skill level required for integration projects.
Rapid Interoperability Using Native SAP Business Logic
The iWay Adapters for SAP enable virtually any application to interact with SAP by invoking native SAP objects and SAP business services via COM+ or Java? JCA interfaces. The adapters execute all underlying ABAP application transaction code, including BAPI, IDoc, and custom RFCs to query and update SAP data. In addition, the iWay Adapters for SAP can be invoked as the result of an event in a different application, such as adding an employee in PeopleSoft that then triggers an update to the SAP R/3 module.
Rich Transaction Reformatting,Transformation,and
Enrichment Capabilities
The iWay Adapters for SAP convert proprietary IDoc and SAP XML into a number of XML and non-XML formats, including cXML, xCBL, ebXML, OAG BOD, SQL, ANSI X12 EDI, UN/EDIFACT EDI, SWIFT, FIX, and HIPAA. They have over 550 formatting and transformation templates for standardized SAP IDoc (non-XML) documents and a GUI workbench tool that generates XML representations of IDocs,RFCs, and RFC-BAPIs from the production SAP Business Object Repository (BOR). The iWay SAP Adapters integrate proprietary non-XML data and EDI data formats, as well as the XML-defined data with SAP's IRF. The iWay SAP Adapters also provide transforming, formatting, and enrichment capabilities that do not exist with SAP BC.Reliable Bidirectional Messaging
iWay SAP Adapters can both send and receive SAP messages. The adapters “listen" for SAP outputs and push synchronous customized RFCs, RFC-BAPI, or RFC-IDoc requests and asynchronous IDocs from SAP to message brokers such as IBM WebSpere MQ,Microsoft MSMQ, Java JMS, or Oracle AQ queues. Depending on the development requirements, the iWay SAP Adapters can be configured to wrap XML around RFC-IDoc and RFC-BAPI requests, or accept the native IDoc formats “as-is.”

Metadata Repository
iWay SAP Adapters benefit from a metadata repository that describes business objects
and RFC modules. For example, a Java servlet seeking information from an SAP source must have built-in knowledge about the RFCs and BAPIs it plans to invoke or be prepared to discover their characteristics by querying an SAP R/3 repository. Every available RFC module and BAPI has a unique name and each can accept import or
export parameters.
Support for SAP Standards
iWay SAP Adapters adhere to the SAP ABAP serialization rules published by SAP AG
and support RFC-BAPI, RFC-IDoc, and SAP IRF XML formats. Conforming to this standard enables a uniform development and integration environment.
iWay Adapters can be installed on any platform, including SAP application server platforms such as AIX, Solaris, HP/UX, and OS/390. Supported message broker environments include IBM WebSphere, IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator, Microsoft
BizTalk Server, Microsoft Commerce Server, Oracle 9iAS, and Oracle 9iAS InterConnect.
