The broken lantern

One stormy night in July 1881, there was a train almost due when a bridge over Honey broke. Kate Shelly, a 15 years old girl stop the train.

Kare rushed out with a lantern and went to a railroad station a mile away. The only way to get there was to cross a long wooden railroad bridge. It was very dangerous to walk on the bridge because it's only railing and ties. Kate stopped and her lantern flickered inthe wind. She stumbled and fell on the wet ties and her lantern broken. On that lightning day she crawled on her hands and knees. She was so tired that she couldn't catch her breath and her hurt. Finally ,she reached the other side the oncoming train. When she came to the station, she was to excited too talk. When she told the man what had happened to the Honey Creek Bridge, the train was stopped and the hundred were saved. To honor her, there were many things that people did, the most she liked is she had the promise that she could get on or off the train at any time.
