3Cosmetic Fluids CF-61 and CF-76
3M ?Cosmetic Fluids CF-61 and CF-76 are unique, fast-drying solvents that can be in a variety of cosmetics and skin care formulations.
Cosmetic ?uids CF-61 (methoxynona?uorobutane) and CF-76 (ethoxynona?uorobutane)are clear, colorless ?uids with low odor. They are fast drying cosmetic ?uids with boiling points of 61°C and 76°C, respectively. Cosmetic ?uids can be used to replace or in conjunction with alcohol or other fast-drying solvents, such as silicone ?uids and hydrocarbon solvents. 3M Cosmetic Fluids are environmentally favorable ?uids offering a unique balance of properties.

Environmental Properties
Testing of 3M ?Cosmetic Fluids CF-61 and CF-76 in neat form demonstrates compatibility
with a wide range of metals, plastics, and elastomers. Although CF-61 and CF-76 ?uids
show good short-term compatibility with ?uorinated plastics and elastomers at room
temperature, the ?uids will absorb into these materials over longer exposure times.
Please note, 3M can work with you and your preferred packaging supplier to determine
optimal packaging for 3M cosmetic ?uid-based formulations.
3M?Cosmetic Fluids Regulatory Status
3M?Cosmetic Fluids CF-61 and CF-76 have been accepted for commercial use by
regulatory agencies in the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia and Europe
(under the European List of Noti?ed New Chemical Substances).
3M cosmetic ?uids have been approved under the Signi?cant New Alternatives Policy
(SNAP) of the U.S. EP A. In addition, 3M cosmetic ?uids have been excluded by the
U.S. EP A from the de?nition of a VOC on the basis that these compounds have
negligible contribution to tropospheric ozone formation.

for 3M cosmetic ?uids.
T oxicity Pro?le
The toxicological testing completed on 3M cosmetic ?uids CF-61 and CF-76 indicate that
overall toxicity is low. The materials are practically non-irritating to the eyes, minimally
irritating to the skin and not a mutagen or cardiac sensitizer. They are rated “practically non-
toxic” through inhalation.
* Exposure guidelines established by the American Industrial Hygiene Association
Compatibility / Solubility With T ypical Cosmetic Ingredients
Many of the components that are listed as being insoluble in the CF Fluids remain stable in
emulsions with the CF Fluids.
