Technical description
The heated sensor (temperature > 700 °C) has two electrodes. One of these electrodes is subjected to the process air and the other one is subjected to the environmental air. The sensor emits a particular voltage signal according to the amount of moisture and pollution vapor (e.g. avivage) in the process air. This signal is conditioned in the instrument preamplifier. It flows to the evaluation electronics (FS 91 B) as a sensor current.

The instrument preamplifier of the sensor also delivers a special reference current to the evaluation electronics (FS 91 B). This is specially balanced to each probe at the factory. This guarantees the problem-free replacement of measurement probes which have the same measurement range.

1.1 Special function direct gas heating
When used with a directly heated dryer, the evaluation electronics (FS 91 B) contains compensation for the direct heating. This is activated by a jumper between terminals 58/59 (see circuit diagram). Important note: The directly gas-heated dryer must have a flushing circuit installed by the dryer manufacturer. Before starting gas heating, the dryer must be sufficiently flushed with air.

1.2. Instructions on use
The FS 91 measures the humidity (water vapor) and the amount of pollution vapor in the process air. In pure drying processes where no pollution vapors arise, the absolute humidity is measured directly. The FS 91 allows the quality of the treated products, the energy used and the environmental damage to be optimized in thermal processes. The amount of outgoing air can be optimally adjusted with the measured value of the FS 91. This occurs either by manually adjusting or automatically controlling exhaust ventilator speeds or exhaust air valve settings. Due to different process sequences, no generally valid, optimum humidity value can be stated. 也 A maximum humidity value (= minimum exhaust air quantity) can be determined through tests. The production speed should not be influenced in this case.

We recommend the following procedure: 1. Set a low humidity value (e.g. 60 g/kg for textile dryers). Observe the process over several days. 2. The humidity value can be increased at intervals of days. Increase only in steps of approx. 10 g/kg. 3. The optimum humidity value is exceeded if - the production speed drops, - the dryer blows out, - condensation drops form in the dryer. 4. Different humidity values can be optimum at very different processes.

2. Precautionary measures The appropriate VDE regulations and local regulations must be observed during installation, commissioning and use. All transport, installation, commissioning and repair work must be carried out by qualified specialists (in accordance with DIN VDE 0100 or similar). Further precautionary measures: ? The supply voltage must correspond with that stated on the rating plate. ? Wire up the unit completely before applying the supply voltage. ? Electronic boards must not be withdrawn or attached when the unit is connected to the supply voltage. ? Holes in the measuring tube of the probe must not be covered - environmental air must be able to enter unhindered. ? Probe type must be suitable with electro nics (Probe and electronic: the same unit number). ? Probe must be protected against splash water. ? Caution: The measurement tube of the measuring probe becomes very hot during operation, because the inside of the probe is heated up to approx. 700 ° C. ? If materials with silicone are processed (e.g. in the case of gypsum plasterboard dryers), then use a probe with a special filter cartridge.

3. Assembly
3.1. Measuring probe The probe must be fitted in the position on the dryer where the process air collects the most humidity and pollution vapor (in most cases at the end of the first third of the system). When selecting the installation site, ensure that the instrument preamplifier of the probe is not in the immediate vicinity of greatly warmed machine components (e.g. heating line). Installation in accordance with diagram:

The measuring tube of the probe must be well sealed where it passes through the dryer wall. Process air and environmental air must not meet at this point. A heat insulation plate is secured to the flange with a cable binder. (Transport safeguard. Remove during installation).

The FS 91 - B is not to be mounted in the vicinity of switching contactors, frequency transformers, or similar units. The ambient temperature of the box should not exceed 50 ° C . It is useful to attach the FS 91 - Box to the dryer wall by distance elements (rubber shock mounting). Thus the circulating air can be used for natural cooling.

4. Electrical connections
Power supply:

Connection FS 91 S to FS 91 Box: Flexible wires 5 x 0.5 mm2, shielded: Terminals 31...35 of the FS 91 B to terminals 31...35 of the measuring probe. Shield at terminal 30 of the FS 91 B and the probe FS 91 S. Flexible wires 3 x 2.5 mm2: Terminals 36...38 of the FS 91 B to terminals 36...38 of the measuring probe: Current output measured value: Analog output of the actual value is realized as 0/4…20 mA current loop (terminals 13+, 13-). If the output is defined as 4…20 mA the current will be 2 mA in case of a fault output of the device. 6.1. Adjusting the heating voltage
Adjustment of the heating voltage is necessary ? when putting into operation for the first time, ? following repairs/replacement of heating power supply unit, cable or measurement probe. The adjustment is made at the potentiometer (see figure in section 5), earliest approximately 10 minutes after the supply voltage is switched on. The heating voltage must be exactly 13 V, measured at the measuring probe terminals 37/38.. The following procedure is recommended: 1. Measure the voltage between terminals 36 and 37 of the FS 91 B (power loss in the cable). Add 13.0 V (setpoint heating voltage). 2. Set the value calculated in 1. The voltage measurement is performed here between terminals 36 and 38 of the FS 91 B. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 several times. 4. The heating voltage of 13 V must again be checked at terminals 37 and 38 of the measuring probe. www.cintex.ch 10

6. Start-up 6.2. Calibration
Calibration is in any case necessary ? during putting into operation for the first time and ? following repairs/replacement of the measuring probe or of modules of FS 91 B. In addition, the calibration procedure should be repeated approx. every 2 months. ATTENTION: Before calibration FS 91 it is necessary to have: ? 30 min. power on FS 91 (for heating-up measuring probe) ? 30 min. no fabric inside dryer or heat set chamber ? 30 min. no gas burners on or no steam supply for heat set chamber

To provide assistance, the probe can also be calibrated when removed. When doing so, lay an earth cable from the installation site to the flange of the probe. To start calibration, press the key CAL for approx. 2 sec. in measuring mode.

6. Start-up 6.3. Information Mode
Factory settings and current unit parameters can be checked in information mode. It is not possible to change settings in information mode (see Section 7 for configuration). For test purposes, it is possible to output a defined current of 0(4) mA, 10(12) mA or 20 mA at the analog output (terminals 13+/13-). This allows subsequently connected units to be tested. To enter information mode, simultaneously press the keys ← and ENT for approx.2 sec.

7. Configuration
The menu SELECT CURRENT OUTPUT allows the setting of the current output RANGE to 0 … 20 mA respectively 4 … 20 mA. At the scaling of the CURRENT OUTPUT the start value (0/4 mA see SELECT CURRENT OUTPUT) and end value of the current output will be correlated to the according minimum and maximum values of the exhaust humidity of the FS 91 Box. Adjustment parameters of the RS-485 interface can be entered or corrected in the SIO (RS-485) menu. The following items can be set: BAUD RATE Setting of baud rate 2400, 4800 or 9600 Bd (standard: 9600 Bd) PROTOCOL Setting of protocol type MININET or PLEVA (see ?Description serial output RS-485“, available on request) ADDRESS Setting of device address depending on the protocol.Input of the MININET address as hexadecimal value: increment by pressing the key ↑ or decrement by pressing the key ← between a range from 11 h to 1F h (standard 1Bh); Input of PLEVA address as decimal value between a range from 0 to 29; For the MEASURED VALUE CORRECTION, the display value of the measuring unit (“FS 91 PROB”) and the value determined through a comparative measurement (e.g. psychrometric measurement) (“ACT VALUE”) are entered. From this pair of values, the measuring unit determines a correction factor which is displayed as the “COR.-FACTOR” in the information mode. It is absolutely necessary, that there is no correction active (COR.-FACTOR = 1) when you read the displayed FS 91 probe value. If the degree of correction is disproportionately high, this correction is rejected. The correction possibility is intended only for special uses. If no correction has to take place, enter equal values (the correction factor is then 1). ? Standard factory setting: - no correction - FS 91 PROB : = 1 ACT VALUE : = 1 After this menu item, the unit automatically returns to measuring mode and is ready for operation. The input values of the configuration mode can be checked in the information mode for monitoring purposes. Access to the configuration menus should be blocked by DIL switch 1 = OFF after a setting is made (see Appendix). Afterwards switch off and on the FS 91 Box to accept the DIL switch setting.

The unit is largely maintenance-free.
