As far as I am concerned, we ought to learn to read extensively as well as intensively. It is not often possible, to read in merely one way. Instead of trying to read every line and word in newspapers and magazine, we'd better summarize the main idea. And when it comes to literature, art, science articles and others like these; it is wise to read them intensively.

Some people think we should read selectively. They argue that with the development of modern science and technology, more and more books are published. It is impossible for us to read all the books. What’s more, there are many bad books that are poison ous to our mind, and we shouldn’t read them. Since we can’t read all the books and we shouldn’t read bad books, we must read selectively.

But others may not agree, they emphasize that today's society is not what it was. If one man has many kinds of knowledge, he will have more chances to succeed. If a man knows much in one field but knows nothing in other fields, he may be useless. Since we must have many kinds of knowledge, we must read extensively.

Who’s right? I think both of them have something right. But I think we should read extensively first. We should read books in many fields, and read selectively in one field.

Net communication can never take the place of a face to face taking or a familiar attracting expression. What is more, who are you turning into when emergency happens, someone thousands miles far away that you even don’t know about his name, or the next door neighbors who smile at you every morning?

The development of an individual human existence can be divided into several important stages. But no period can be more influential upon the later course of our life than the years we have experienced in college. Here is the cradle（摇篮） of intelligentsia（知识分子） with vision, mission and passion. And now, as I am ready to leave campus and face the real world, I dare say that no other place can teach me more.

I am very proud that in university I have learnt how important it is for one to have vision, that ability to see ahead of time and possibly others. College has raised me up, so that I could enjoy a broader view of the world. University Library, the sanctuary圣地 of mind always keeps me in a close touch with the great thoughts of giants, Shakespeare, Russell, Churchill, Roosevelt, to name only a few. They warn me that the last but greatest enemy for mankind is human existence itself. Their words of wisdom shall guide and guard me to overcome all the obstacles beset in the course of my life. In the light of this statement, I have to say that college years have brightened up my vision.
