June 11,2013 was another big day for Chinese space

exploration, Shenzhou X was (1)blasted off into space.

Three astronauts, Nie Haisheng, Zhang Xiaoguang and

Wang Yaping stayed in space for 15 days and has been

Flight mission (任务)

Shenzhou X performed its first docking (对接) with Tiangong-1 on June 13. It docked twice during the 15 days.

It’s said China’s lab module will be developed into a large space station around 2020. A space station is a lab in space which is for scientific studies.

The US, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe are working together on the International Space Station (ISS). China wanted to join the ISS but was refused by the US. China decided to build its own space station.

Shenzhou X flew around the Tiangong-1 lab module for the first time as well. The astronauts carried out repair work and did experiments on the Tiangong-1. Teaching from space

WangYaping,China’s second woman astronaut, taught high school and primary school students about space science. Wang talked about how things moved in a micro-gravity (微重力) environment. This will help the students better understand some physics ideas. We believe that the lesson will encourage more students to learn about space and science.

Life in space

The three astronauts worked and rested just like on the Earth. They had Chinese dishes, such as Kung Pao Chicken and fried rice. The food was kept in special bags. At the time of the Dragon Boat Festival, they had zongzi.

About the three astronauts

Nie Haisheng.This was the second time that Nie had been into space. In 2005, he successfully carried out the Shenzhou VI space mission. Many people say he looked just the same as he did eight years ago. Nie says it’s because he keeps good habits, including a healthy diet, exercise and enough rest .

Zhang Xiaoguang. He was trained as one o f China’s first astronauts in 1998. Before that, Zhang was a senior pilot and had a record of 1,000 hours of safe flying. Wang Yaping.
