大学生英语口语学习的现状及存在的问题的调查分析班级:12级英师四班姓名;贺婷学号:20124033044

前言:长期以来,大学英语口语教学一直是个薄弱环节。目前就国内多数高校学生而言, 英语是一门不可缺少的基础性学科。当今社会对人才的要求越来越高,对人才的英语水平的要求也越来越高。然而,目前大学生的英语水平尤其是英语口语水平还不是很理想。这一现象己经引起了教育界和社会的普遍关注。从大学英语教学效果来看, 英语课堂大多数气氛沉闷, 台上教师唱独角戏, 而台下学生只是机械记录。多数学生用英语回答问题时, 仅仅是照本宣科朗读课文。一旦脱离课本, 除了会最基本的单词表述外, 多半是无从下“口”, 更谈不上口语表达的多样化。实际生活中, 更多学生学的是“哑巴英语”。并且部分学生英语发音带有浓重的方言。各类考试对口语考试的淡化处理,以及在大学英语教学中忽略口语课程安排,使口语教学一直处于一种可有可无的状态。本文通过问卷调查, 了解了大学生英语口语学习的现状及存在的问题, 分析了造成这些调查结果的原因, 并从中得到启示。

一、研究设计

1.调查分析的理论依据

2003年4月教育部制定的《大学英语课程教学要求》要求在强调外语教学中听、说、读、写、译五项技能协调发展的同时, 更强调突出了听说技能的重要性。“要求”明确指出: 外语教学的目的在于培养学生的交际能力。著名语言学家乔姆斯基认为: 人类学习语言不是单纯的模仿、记忆的过程, 而是创造性运用的过程。

《大学英语课程教学要求》还指出:“大学英语的教学目标是培养学生的英语综合应用能力,特别是听说能力,使他们在今后在学习,工作和社会交往中能用英语有效地进行交际,同时增强其自主学习能力,提高其综合文化素养,以适应我国社会发展和国际交流的需要。”

2.调查分析的对象和工具

本次调查以本校12级英语师范专业(4班) 37名学生( 男1人, 女36人, 其中34人已通过四级考试, 占91.89﹪) 为对象, 问卷主要是针对目前大学生英语口语学习的现状, 设计了20 道有关“你认为影响你英语口语水平的主要原因是什么( 包括学和教两方面) ”的小题和一道开放式题目, 对调查对象以问卷形式为主,由作者当场发放问卷, 并要求学生当场独立完成( 当场发放问卷149份, 收回149份,有效问卷149份) 。本次调查对象之所以选大三学生是因为他们在大学阶段历时两年的英语学习已结束, 并顺利通过大学生四级考试,他们能如实地、全面地根据自己的情况填写调查问卷

许多大学生在学习英语口语的过程中,由于动机不明确,以致学习效果得不到提高。针对这种情况,特制订本调查问卷,希望大家能认真填写,从而找出办法,提到大学生英语口语学习效果。

二、存在的问题

从以上的调查结果我们可发现目前大学生在英语口语学习中普遍存在以下问题: 1.学生英语口语学习的意识淡薄, 缺乏学习英语口语的动力

从表中9, 10, 11题我们了解到: 除了上课外, 学生几乎没花时间练习口语的达83%,想练好口语, 但又不能坚持的达57%, 认为口语不重要的达75%。这些调查结果与学生学习口语的意识淡薄,学习目的不明确, 缺乏学习英语口语的动力以及毅力等有很大的关系。

2. 学生的实际口语水平很低

问卷中3, 7, 8题显示: 学生口语水平低的高达91.6%, 所以跟不上老师讲课的占80%, 不能积极主动参与交流的达80%, 抱怨老师讲得太多, 学生练得太少的占66%。这些数据有力地说明了学生虽然通过了大学两年的学习, 但口语水平和实际运用语言的能力仍然很差, 与《大纲》的要求存在很大的差距, 与多年学习英语应具备的功效相比显得事半功倍, 造成这一现状的原因与学生原有的语音、听力、口语表达能力较差以及老师的传统教学方法和自身的学习方式有直接的关系。

3.学生缺乏学习英语口语的自信心

调查问卷第二题91.6%的学生由于英语基础差导致严重的心理障碍, 无法

树立起学习的自信心。这与本专业文理兼招以及生源有一定的关系。

4. 英语口语课时太少

调查中87.7%的学生普遍认为英语口语课时太少, 调查的实际情况也是如此。按《大纲》要求, 每周口语课为两节, 连续四个学期, 按每学期18 周计算( 第一学期为13 周) , 应该是132 节, 而我国很多大学的英语教学为了完成教学任务, 使学生顺利通过四、六级考试, 口语课只开三个学期, 且每周才一节, 三个学期的口语课实际上就只有49节。这样的学习时间和学习环境是不可能训练好口语, 提高口语水平的。

5.教学设备落后

21世纪的今天, 许多大学的英语口语教学仍然是一个教室几十个学生, 一支粉笔, 一个中国口语老师, 一台录音机。因此问卷中87%的学生认为, 目前落后的教学设备在很大程度上影响了他们学习口语的兴趣和积极性。

三、原因分析

造成这种现象的原因, 可从以下几个方面进行分析:

1 传统英语教学的弊端。长期以来, 在传统英语教学中, 老师是主动者, 而学生是被动者。传统教学法注重语言输入的形式, 注重语法概念的分析和训练, 整个课堂都是以教师口述为主, 学生缺乏独立思考的机会, 更难有开口说的机会。这种单纯注重语言的教学, 忽视了传授使用语言的社会背景及培养语言交际的能

力。许多学生从小学到大学, 数十载的英语学习, 客观地说, 不少学生对英语本身的语法, 句型等基础知识掌握得较扎实, 可是一旦遇到口语交际场合, 这种

语言学习中的弱项便立刻凸现出来。因此, 应从传统机械地背诵、听写语转化到最终以实现英语口语交流为目的的学习中来。

2 缺乏语境, 起步晚。近来的实验与研究表明, 人们的感知能力,认知结构以及社会范畴都能对语言产生制约作用。教育心理学认为环境在人的认知、感知等方面起着重要作用。

3 学生学习英语功利心强。在学习过程中, 每个人出于不同的学习动机, 学习的效果也会相差甚远。这一结论已得到社会广泛承认。显然, 如果英语学习者对英语民族的生活方式感兴趣的话, 那么他们就能够更好地输入语言, 从而更好地

习得语言。当学习者由于强烈的工具性需要而学习第二语言时, 他们会倍加努力; 相反, 当学习者的第二语言知识能够满足其功能性需要时, 就会停止学习。在大学校园里, 这种功利心理表现尤为突出。许多学生学习英语的目的是为了通过考试, 拿张证书。一旦目标实现,便将英语抛之脑后, 若干年后, 别说开口说英语,就连单词恐怕也是认识得为数不多了。这种急功近利的学习心态也是导致大学生口语水平偏低的重要因素。

四、提高英语口语表达能力的对策

为了改善这种情况,教师在英语教学中应充分发挥其主观能动性,把培养学生的口语能力作为教学的首要任务。本文将从以下四个方面介绍提高大学生英语口语的方法。

一、培养口语表达的兴趣

我国古代教育家孔子说:“知之者不如好之者,好之者不如乐之者”,说明了兴趣的重要性。目前就国内多数高校学生而言,英语课堂大多数气氛沉闷,台上教师唱独角戏,而台下学生只是机械记录,学生缺乏独立思考的机会,更难有开口说的机会,这样的课堂现状容易使学生产生厌学情绪,最后完全放弃。虽从教没多久,但自己在教学中认识到教师在教口语时必须善于调动一切积极的心理因素来提高学生的兴趣和信心,必须善于运用幽默的语言、夸张的动作和丰富的表情来调动课堂气氛。教学中可采取创设情境、短剧表演、小组对话、讲故事新闻等多样化的教学方法,不断给学生以表达的机会,不断给学生以新的刺激,培养他们对口语表达的浓厚兴趣。此外,纠正学生口语表达时的错误应注意策略,尽量忽略学生的错误,采取鼓励、肯定的态度纠正其错误,消除学生怕犯错误而不敢开口的心理焦虑,使学生经常不断地获得成功的愉快体验,增强学生口语表达的自信心。

二、加强学生语音语调的训练——攻破语音关

语音语调是讲英语者的门面,是决定口语水平高低的一个主要因素。目前在国内,许多学生虽然已经通过了大学英语四、六级考试,然而在语音面貌上仍存在许多问题,具体表现在发音怪异,语调错误,部分南方学生英语发音带有浓重的方言,针对这一现状教师应该让学生加强听力训练,在听中对标准的语音语调进行模仿,并对自己的语音语调进行自我纠正。同时学生要学会正确的发音规律,尽可能地贴近英语国家本土人的发音习惯。对于地方口音很重的学生,教师应该给予尽可能多的鼓励,鼓励学生在课上、课下加强听力训练,多听,听磁带、广播、电影、英文歌、听外教说话或通过网络和外教学习发音,长期坚持模仿练习,摆脱母语的干扰,提高英语的发音。只要学生坚持仔细听音,认真模仿,坚持操

练,他们定会说出漂亮地道的英语。一旦突破了语音关,学生们就能够开口说出规范流利的英语,就会进一步增强他们学好英语的自信心,提高学习英语口语的积极主动性。

三、避免说中式英语——培养学生用英语思维

现实生活中,不少大学生发现在英语交际过程中不能很好表达自己的思想或理解他人的讲话,很多东西是借助于母语表达出来的,说出来也不地道,大都是中式英语。比如,一位男士称赞一位女士:“Today you look very beautiful!”(今天您可真漂亮啊!)这位女士立刻谦虚地回答:“Where! Where!”(哪里!哪里!)结果对方尴尬地说:“Everywhere!”(全身都漂亮!)事实上,在西方交际文化中,对于社交场合上的这种恭维话,我们只需回答Thanks(谢谢)即可,又如:Sorry, I forget my dictionary at home.(对不起,我把字典忘在家里了)这是按照汉语的字面意思来表达,动词“forget”在表示“忘记带某物”时,不与地点状语连用。该句正确表达是“I left my dictionary at home.”英汉两种语言差异较大,用汉语思维模式来取代英语思维模式,往往会逐字理解,对释这种一一对应的错误模式,违反了英语表达规律。要培养英语思维,只能靠平时多背多读多记忆原汁原味的英语,多听原版的录音或多看原版的电影及小说等,形成正确的语言能力,也就能够用英语进行思维了,口语水平自然会得到质的提高。

四、加强英语文化知识渗透,增强语言得体性意识

语言表达除清晰、流畅、达意还需得体。目前部分学生用简单的英语和英语国家人进行交流不是一件特别困难的事,难的是交流中语言不够得体,在会话中常常闹出笑话或引起误会。出现这种交流不得体的原因是学生对英语文化背景知识了解不够,在日常的跨文化交际中常常不自觉地照搬自己国家的文化习惯。下面给大家举几个有关两个语言国家文化背景差异的例子。比如,我们中国人接受礼物时一般不会当着送礼物人的面看礼物,而外国人往往会当面打开礼物,并高兴地向人家连声称谢“Thank you. I really appreciate it.”还有我们见面打招呼习惯于问:“你吃饭了吗?”、“去哪里?”、“干什么去啊?”等,而英语国家的人打招呼通常以天气、健康情况、交通、体育以及兴趣爱好为话题。如果我们问英美人“Have you eaten yet?”他们会认为我们是想请他们吃饭,如果问“Where are you going?”他们会很不高兴,很可能会说“It is none of your business.”如果我们问“Are you going to the film?”他们会认为这是明知故问,感到很奇怪。由此可见,跨文化背景知识非常重要,它影响到学生交际时的语言得体性。教学中教师应该加强英语文化知识渗透,培养学生的跨文化交际意识。让学生学会与他人交际。要明确“在什么场合该说话,什么时候不该说话,知道在什么时候什么地方以什么方式对什么人讲些什么话。”这样既可激发学生学习兴趣,又有利于增强文化背景差异意识。学生通过长期的口语练习后,口语交际能力自然就会显著提高了。

五、结论:

总之,要想提高大学生英语口语应用能力,就应该尽可能的激发学生的学习兴趣,促使学生在自觉自愿的情况下进行英语学习,进行英语口语的锻炼,从而提高英语口语应用能力。
