Lesson 4

1、Teaching contents analysis

Today I’m going to talk about Part B of Unit 2, PEP Primary English, Book 6. This lesson is the 4th lesson of t his unit. It includes two parts: Let’s talk and let’s lea rn. In section 1, it mainly deals with the words or the ph rases about “swim skate fly kites make a snowman plant tre es” and the answers. And in section 2, it provides a real situation for the Ss to practice the pattern: “Which seaso n do you like best?” “ Why do you like …? ”And the answ er: “Because…”and the answer should includes the activit ies in the season which you like.

2. Teaching aims

1. Aims on the knowledge

(1) To enable the Ss to understand and speak: “swim skat

e fly kites make a snowma n plant trees” Make sure that Ss can handle the listening reading and writing skills o

f th em.

(2) To enable the Ss to understand and speak: “Which sea son do you like best?” “ Why do you like …? ”And the a nswer: “Because…” Make sure that Ss can use these sente nces in real situations.

(3) To help Ss to finish the survey.

2. Aims on the abilities

(1) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking.

(2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups.

(3) To foster Ss’ abilities of communication and the ir i nnovation.

3. Aims on the emotion

(1) To foster Ss’ consciousness of good co-operation and proper competition.

III. Key-points of this lesson

(1) To help Ss ask the question: “Which season do you l ike best?” “ Why do you like …? ”And the answer: “Bec ause…”

(2) To enable Ss to study in groups and co-operate skill fully.

(3) To develop Ss’ interest in English.

IV. Difficult points

(1) To help the Ss communicate with the content frequen tly and make sure they can use the pronunciation correctly.

(2) To finish the survey in English by themselves.

V. Teaching methods

As we all know: the main instructional aims of lea rning English in primary school is to cultivate pupils’ b asic abilities of listening and speaking and their good se nse of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainl y use “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I wi ll let the Ss learn in real situations, finish a task by m aking a survey to help the Ss to get a better understandin g of the key structure of the dialogue. I will arrange fou r kinds of activities: free discussing, guessing game, fin ishing a survey and write a poem with pictures. And in thi s lesson a recorder, CAI, school things and a printed form will be needed. Students should prepare some white paper s.

VI. Teaching procedures and purposes of my designing.

I’ll finish this lesson in five steps.

Step 1. Warm-up and preview

1. Free talk the key words about the four seasons., such as: weather clothes fruits and food colours.

2. Discuss the sentences about the four seasons.

3. Do the conclusion the sentences with CAI and chat with Ss. Such as :In spring, it is sunny and warm. In spring, t he grass is green. In spring, I can wear in sweater and In spring, I can eat cherry.

Purpose: It is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the Ss by free talk and doing some discussing . it provides situations to review learne d knowledge for the next step. And in this step, I alwa ys based on the rules about pupils age that is learning t he knowledge from the easy to the difficult.

Step 2. Presentation

Now I’ll mainly talk about this step.

1.Present the pattern: “What can you on the weekend?.”

2.(1) T: In spring, what can you do? Let us discuss

it in groups. Help the Ss remember numbers of the wo

rds that they have learned and the good will help the

poor and then they will be very interested in todays

learning. And they can speak as more as they can. un

derstand the meaning with the help of my body languag

e. Then lead the Ss to read the sentence. Make sure t

hey can say it correctly.

(2)T: I can fly kites.

Teaching this phrase with the picture of spring. And un derstand the meaning with the help of my body language.

Then lead the Ss to read the sentence. Make sure they can say it correctly. Maybe the Ss will make more sente nces: In Spring, I can go hiking or go fishing. Based o n this methods, I can finish the teaching of other word s and methods.

Purpose: I believe that they can master this part very well for they are the Ss in grade 5. So I think the imp ortance is how to communicate frequently with the learn ed words. Then I will go ro the next part.

2. Play a guessing game. Divide the whole class into four groups to have a competition with the help of the CAI. Wh at can you do?

Purpose: To present the key structures one by one is mu ch easier for the Ss to learn and grasp the meanings. Prop er competition can arouse the Ss’ interesting.

3. With the help of the CAI to present the dialog ue. Set a situation to help Ss understand:

Two Ss are coming.

Girl: Which season do you like besr?

Boy: Winter. Because I can make a snowman in winter. Whic h season do you like best? (What about you?)

Girl: Spring. Because I fly kites.

Boy: I like spring too. We can fly kites together. Girl: OK.

4. Play the cassette. Let the Ss listen and imitate the dialogue. And then they will make the dialogue. Pay at tention to their pronunciation and intonation.

Purpose: CAI can provide a real situation for the Ss t o understand the dialogue and the relationships between people better. And reading after the cassette is training the good listening habbits for them.

Step 3. Practice

1、 make the dialogue by themselves.

2、Divide Ss into groups of six children. Each one would finish the have? Find out which group finishes faster.

Purpose: Task-based teaching method is used here to devel op Ss’ printed form by asking and answering: How many stor ybooks do you ability of communication and also their abil ity of co-operation will be well trained.It’s important for students to speak English as much as possible in class.

Step 4. Assessment

Make a poem. With the help of the CAI, it comes out a beau tiful spring picture with music. And lead the Ss to apprec iate the poem that I made with these sentences:

Which season do you like best?

I like spring best.

In spring, it is warm and sunny.

In spring, the flowers are beautiful.

In spring, I can eat strawberry.

In spring, I can plant trees.

In spring, I am happy.

This is an example. They can change the words on the line or create by themselves. Then divide the Ss into groups of 6. Give them several minutes to discuss and choose one of the seasons to finish.

Purpose: To check the knowledge Ss have learned in this period. Use the English in their life. The language is f rom the life, so I just return the language in the life. And the Ss are the main actors in the class.

Step 5. Add-activity(Home work)

1. Remember the target words and sentences by hear

2. Finish the last poem by ownself..

Purpose: Revision is so important that Ss should s peak English as much as they as in class or after clas

s. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exerc ises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learne d.

The ability aims are to develop the students’ abilities of reading and writing, to train the students’abilities of using language, to guide the students to talk about likes and dislikes and to develop the students’ abilities of creative thinking and cooperative study. The emotional aims are to arouse the students’ interest in learning English, to enable the students to form good eating habits. 3. Teaching key points and difficult points: The teaching key points are to enable students to use the new words, phrases and sentences in English, The difficult points are to enable students to talk about other’s eating habits.. Then I’ll talk about Part 2 the analysis of students. The students have learned English for several years so far. But they are new in middle school. They are curious about new things and have a strong desire to learn better. However, their English learning level are different from each other.
