coast和beach的区别?
coast海岸和海滨地区,所以a town on the coast是海滨城镇.而beach强调是海边平缓或有沙滩的部分.而那些悬崖峭壁的部分依然叫coast,但很少称作beach.所以,美国的海岸警卫队叫Coast Guard而不能叫Beach Guard,因为他们要保卫的不光是平缓有沙的海滩beach,还有怪石林立的cliffs,加上海面.显然,coast的范围要大的多.
同样,海滨城市一般是coast city,而不是beach city. 在beach上是建不起城市的,因为上面太多沙了.我们住在海滨城市coast city,依然可能要去beach度假游玩,只有内地城市inland city的人才会长途跋涉来海滨城市coast city度假.
bank,beach,coast,seaside,shore都含有一定的"(海)岸,边"之意
bank "河岸,堤岸",指河流两旁高出水面的地方
beach "海(湖,河)滩,水滨",指受潮水冲刷而形成的有细沙或卵石覆盖的平缓的斜坡
coast "海岸,海岸线",是地理上的专用名词,指海洋与陆地的分界线,有清晰的边界概念.它不能用来指河岸或湖岸.
