What is leadership (领导能力)? It means more than just being a leader. It also means working together with others. Swift Middle School students learned this through a number of interesting activities.

To celebrate American National Student Leadership Week, April 15-21, the school held many activities during lunchtimes. In one activity, students stood in a circle (圆圈) and held hands with the person across from them. Their hands were like a“human knot (结)”. They had to work together to untie (解开) it.

In another activity, some students covered their eyes and their teammates helped them walk around obstacles (障碍). “All of the activities aim to make students learn more about leadership,” Lindsay Capoferri, a schoolteacher told the Lancaster New Era. “They are doing a great job.”

Greetings can be tricky. If you don’t know the culture of the country you visit, you may find yourself in trouble

Bill Gates, the Microsoft founder, was in trouble recently. When he shook (握) hands with South Korean President Park Geun-hye on April 23, he kept his other hand in his pocket (口袋).

US people may think this is not a problem. But people from South Korea see this as rude (粗鲁的).

People from different countries have different ways of greeting.

In France, women like a kiss on the cheek (脸颊) better than shaking hands. US people usually shake hands in a firm (有力的) way. In Japan, people usually bow (鞠躬) to each other when they meet.

So, mind your body language when greeting someone from another countryAnswer the following questions:

Hi, I’m Liu Fangyue. I’m 14 years old. I visited the eastern coast of the US from Feb 8 to 21. It was a great trip. I hope to share all my stories there with you.

Do you know the Ivy League It’s a name for eight of the top universities (顶尖大学) in northeastern America. I dream of studying at one of them. I first had a chance to visit them during my travels in the US.

Yale is one of my favorite universities. I was very happy to visit it. It was so beautiful that I couldn’t believe my eyes. Its buildings (建筑) were in both the Eastern and Western styles (风格).Yale also has so many clubs! For example, it has a large number of musical (音乐的) clubs. There are clubs for jazz, pop, classical music and even Chinese music. Every

week there are some activities in each club.

During my visit I also got to know something about American universities. There, studying hard every day is more important than getting a high score in the final exam. I think Chinese schools should also do the same.

The visit opened my eyes to different universities. What a great trip!
