How Can You Become a Successful Learner?

Everyone is born with the ability learn. But whether or not you can do this well depend on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habit in common.

Creating an interest in what they learn

Studies show that if you are interesting in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learner often connect what they need learn to something they are interested in.

For example, if they need to learn English and they like music and sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports program in English. This way they will not get boring.

Practicing and learning from mistakes

Good learner think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, “use it or lose it”! Even if you learn something good, you will

It is not enough just study hard. You have to know how to study. Good

learners find the best ways to learn well. For example, they may take

notes by writing down key word or by drawing mind maps. Good learners

also look for ways review what they have learned. They may do this by

reading their notes every day or by explain the information to another student. Asking questions

Good learners often asks questions during or after class. hey even ask each

other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge come from questioning. Learning is a life-long journey because every day bring

anything new. Everything that you learn becomes a

part of you and changes you, so learn wise and learn well.

Do you know that there is two special days for parents in America? One is Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May and the other is Father Day on

third Sunday of June. On these two days, American children often give gift

to their parents or take them out for lunch and dinner. Common gifts are flowers and card for mothers and shirts or ties for fathers. I heard that it is becoming more and more popular to celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day at China. I wonders if children over there also give similar gifts to their parents. I believe that there is many ways to show our love. Actually, we don’t have to spend a lot of money. It is too a good idea to help parents to do something instead.

The Spirit of Christmas

Many would agree that when we think of Christmas, we probably think of gift,

Christmas trees and Santa Claus. But behind all these things lie the true meaning of Christmas: the importance of share and giving love and joy to people around us. The story in A Christmas Carol are perhaps the best example of this.

A Christmas Carol is a famous novel write by Charles Dickens. It is about an old man name Scrooge who never laughs or smiles. He is mean and only thinks about himself, and doesn’t treat others nice. He just cares about whether he can make more money. And he hate Christmas. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge sees the ghost of Jacob Marley, his dead business partner. Marley used to just like Scrooge, so

he punished after he died. He warns Scrooge to change his ways if he doesn’t wants to end up like him. He also tells Scrooge to expect three spirits to visit him. That night, three ghosts visit Scrooge. First, the Ghost of Christmas Past take

him back to his childhood and reminds Scrooge of his happier day as a child. Then second spirit, the Ghost of Christmas Present, takes him to see how

other are spending Christmas this year. Everyone is happy, even poor people. The last one, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, takes him to the future. He saw

that he is dead but nobody care. Scrooge is so scared that he wakes up in

his bed and find out it is already the next morning on Christmas Day!

He decides to change his life and promise to be a better person. He happily celebrates Christmas with his relative. He also gives gifts to people in need.

He now treats everyone with kind and warmth, spreading love and joy everywhere he go. And that is the true spirit of Christmas!

Could You Please ...?

When you visit a foreign country, it is important to know how ask for help polite. For example, “Where are the restrooms?” or “Could you please tell me where the restrooms is?” are similar requests for directions to a place. Both are correctly English, but the first one sounds less polite. That is because it is a very direct question. It is not enough to just ask a question correct. We also need

to learn how to be politely by being less direct — or more indirect — when we ask for help.

In English, as in Chinese, we change the way we speaks when we talk with different people. The expressions you use might depend on who you are speaking to or

how good you know them. If you say to your teacher, “When is the school trip?”, this might sound impolite. But if you say, “Excuse me, Mr. West. Do you know when the school trip is?”, this will sound s much more polite. However, it is all right to ask direct questions in some situation, like with your classmates.

Usually polite question are longer and include more language such as “Could you please ...?” and “Can I ask ...?” It sounds more polite to say, “Peter, could you please tell me your e-mail addresses?” than “Pet er, tell me your e-mail address.” Sometimes we even need to spend time lead in to a request. For example, with

a strangers on the street, we might first say, “Excuse me, I wonder if you can help me” or “I’m sorry trouble you, but ...” before asking for help.

It might seem more difficult to speak polite than be direct. However, it is important learn how to use proper language. This will also help you become better

at English, or any other language you wish to speak.

He studies harder than he Used to

Li Wen is a normal 15-years-old boy from the countryside. He works very hard and does good in school. It is hard to believe that he used to have difficulties in school. When he is a little boy, he seldom caused any problems, and his

family spent a lot of time together. However, things begin to change a few

years ago. His parents moved to the city to look for job, and his grandparents came to take care of him. But he misses his parents so much and he often

felt alone and unhappy. Li Wen’s unhappiness began to influence his schoolwork. He became less interested in study. Sometimes he was

So his parents took a 24-hours train and a 5-hour bus ride to get to

Li Wen’s school. They have a long walk. “It was exactly what I needed,” he says. “Now I understand that even though they are busy, they are always

thinking of me .They take pride on everything good that I do.” After that, Li Wen’

s parents had much many communication with their son than they used to. Now Li Wen has really change .He became more outgoing and made some

good friends in school. He even join the school basketball team and became active in many other act ivies. “I’m much happy now, and I work even harder than I used to. I know my parents love me and they’re always proud of I,”

Beauty in Common Things

Each different part of China have its own special forms of traditional art.

These usually try to shows the things that are important in life such as love, beauty or family. The most common things, from paper to clay to bamboo,

are turn into objects of beauty. According to Chinese history, sky lanterns

were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sends them out to ask for help when

in trouble. Today, sky lanterns are used at festival and other

celebrations. They are made from bamboo and covered with

paper. When the lanterns are lit, they slow rise into the air like small

hot-air balloons for all to see. They are seen as bright symbols of happy

and good wish. Paper cutting has been around for over

1,500 years. Paper cutting sound very easy but it can be difficult to do.

The paper, usually red, is fold before it is cut with scissors. The most

common pictures are flowers, fish, animals, or things about Chinese history. During Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as

symbols of wishes for good lucky and a happy new year. Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very really. The pieces are usually cute children or live characters from a Chinese fairy

tale or historical story. The pieces is carefully shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After dry, they are

fired at a very high heat. They are then polished and paint. Finally, materials such as wood or paper are added to make different thing. It takes several

week to complete everything. These small pieces of clay art show the love

that all Chinese people have for life or beauty.
