Currently/Nowadays/At present, the major dilemma/problem which most students face upon graduation is whether to continue pursuing postgraduate studies or to find a job immediately.
Those who decide to go to work immediately cannot wait to put into practice what they have learned. They believe that only by application can a person master knowledge in the real sense. Most important of all, they can live on their own and have the feeling of accomplishment for the first time.
Others, however, argue that if a person wants to be an expert in a specialized field, four years in university/at college is far from enough.The best way is to choose a subject and study it in depth. It is not late at all for them to go to work,for the reason that they start at a much higher level.
No matter which choice a student makes, he has to be careful enough to look into his unique situation and consult others like his teachers for their advice. He will make the right choice if he knows his goal in life and how to turn it into a reality.
2. How to Face up to Challenge
Nowadays /At present /At the present time we are facing more and more challenges in the modern world. Challenge means not only hardship, but opportunity as well. It can inspire our creative power and lead us to success.Therefore, we should not be afraid of challenge.
The most important thing for us to do is to deal with challenge appropriately. First of all, we should be courageous enough to face up to it. No pains, no gains, as the saying goes. Only through hard work/diligence/studiousness/assiduity
/industry can we achieve success. Second, we should get well prepared/do our homework both mentally and intellectually for challenge for the reason that /in that /because challenge may come at any time and only those who have made full preparations and acquired adequate knowledge can take it up with ease.
As for me, I’m always trying to challenge myself and improve on my previous performance. I am absolutely convinced that this is a sure way to success.
3. Teaching and Learning
As we all know, /It is well known that teaching and learning are indispensable parts of the same educational experience. A teacher is also learning when he imparts his knowledge to his students. On one hand, he learns from his teaching materials and his students’ questions as well. On the other hand, he gains rich experience from his own teaching. As far as students are concerned, they learn from teachers, from books and also from their peers/classmates. Therefore, teaching and learning are supportive of each other.（appreciative of/suggestive of/indicative of/inclusive of/exclusive of ）However, teaching and learning are sometimes treated separately.In such a case, the teacher is merely /only considered to be the one who gives whereas/while/whilst the students think of themselves solely as passive receivers and thus do not learn /on
their own initiative/actively. As a result/Consequently, both the teacher and the students fail to cooperate satisfactorily with each other and work most efficiently.
As I see it/From my perspective,we should not always depend on teachers. Listening to teachers attentively in class is only part of learning, the greater of which exists outside class. We should try to develop our abilities to work on our own/independently. In addition, we should learn to put what we have learned into practice/put into practice what we have been taught.
4. Should College Marriage Be Permitted?
A national debate has sprung up on whether college marriage should be permitted.
Many people strongly oppose (=are strongly opposed to=stand firm against) the permission of college marriage. They hold that the chief task for college students is to study, and marriage will distract their attention and take up a lot of time. Moreover, students are not economically independent. Thus, marriage will cause a great many problems such as future job hunting and housing.In a word,they believe that marriage will severely hinder/affect both present study and future work.
From my perspective,college marriage should be permitted but it should be practiced with extreme care.For one thing, the right of college students should be respected, as they are adults. For another, the restriction on the age of students was done away with in 2001, and many elder students attend universities. Last but not least,the time at college is so precious that every student will think twice before they get married. There is no doubt that only a few students will get married even though college marriage is permitted. On the other hand, the authorities should grant them the right.
5.Choose a Good Job or a Job with Good Pay
Every person will be faced/confronted with the same question when they enter the job market: Should he choose a good job or a job with good pay? Different people may have different answers. (Answers to the question vary from person to person.)
Some people give priority to/place importance on a good job. What they cherish/value/treasure/prize most is personal development and job satisfaction. They do not think that salary is of great/paramount importance/significance --- as/so long as they work hard/work industriously /exert themselves, a bright future is awaiting /waiting for them.
However/On the contrary, other people pay more attention to the pay. They attach great importance to the salary in that /for the simple reason that money is indispensable to/for modern life and is the symbol of a good job itself. How can you consider your job ideal/good if you can barely/hardly live on your pay/ if you have to live from hand to mouth?
In a word/To sum up/In conclusion/In summary, I am of the opinion that the best job is one that brings not only job satisfaction but also good pay. We can only get/land such a job after making great efforts/endeavors. If we cannot obtain both, the first thing to /take account of /consider is a good job.
6.Importance of Education
China, as a developing country, is determined to catch up with and even surpass the developed ones. I think that one of the best possible ways to do so is to give first priority(优先）to the development of culture, science and especially education.
In modern times, when science and technology are making great progress, the education of the work force is of primary importance. Moreover, many of the success in advanced countries have demonstrated that a nation 's prosperity mainly depends on the quality of its labour force, namely those who have been well educated.
In a developing country such as China, our investment in culture, education and science, and especially elementary education, must enjoy top priority. This is crucial(决定性的）for China to catch up with the developed nations in today's surging(汹涌的) waves of technological revolution. Otherwise, the gap between China and advanced countries will be widened rather than bridged.
7. Environmental Protection
Today the quality of our natural environment has become an important issue. The world population is rising so quickly that the world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources and at the same time polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, life on earth cannot survive.
Concerned people have made some progress in environmental protection. Governments of many countries have established laws to protect the air, forests and sea resources and to stop environmental pollution.
Still more measures should be taken to solve environmental problems. People should be further educated to recognize the importance of the problems, to use modern methods of birth control, to conserve(保存）our natural resources and recycle（再循环）our products. We are sure that we can have a better and cleaner place in the future.
8. Ideals
Everyone has his ideals. A businessman wishes to make greater profit; a farmer expects bumper harvests; a student tries to learn more and better. And everyone strives, with more or less effort, to realize his ideal.
One should be sensible about whether his ideal is well founded or not. If it is, one has to plan and work hard for its realization. Effort, skill and persistence are all necessary. And very often, one has to get help from others, including advice and support in one form or another.
My ideal is to become a doctor. It is said that the field of medicine is a well-paid profession, but I take it as a lofty profession entrusted with saving people’s lives. To realize my ideal I have concentrated on laboratory work to develop the analytical skills necessary to become a qualified doctor. I am sure I will realize my ideal if I persevere in this pursuit.

全国大学英语四、六级考试改革方案（试行） 教高厅［2005］1号 大学英语教学改革是“高等学校教学质量与教学改革工程”的一项重要内容，2004年，教育部组织制定了《大学英语课程教学要求（试行）》。大学英语四、六级考试（以下简称四、六级考试）改革是大学英语教学改革的重要组成部分。全国大学英语四、六级考试委员会（以下简称考委会）和大学英语四、六级考试改革项目组在广泛听取多方意见的基础上，经过近一年的研究和论证，根据《大学英语课程教学要求（试行）》，制定本方案。 一、四、六级考试改革的指导思想、目标和原则 四、六级考试是为教学服务的标准化考试。考试改革的指导思想是在保持科学性、客观性和公正性的同时，使考试最大限度地对大学英语教学产生正面的导向作用，即：通过改革，引导师生正确处理教学与考试的关系，更合理地使用四、六级考试，使考试更好地为教学服务。考试改革的目标是更准确地测量我国在校大学生的英语综合应用能力，尤其是英语听说能力，以体现社会改革开放对我国大学生英语综合应用能力的要求。改革要按照前瞻性与可行性相结合、分步实施的原则进行，既有近期改革目标，又有中长期规划。 二、四、六级考试改革的措施 （一）全面改革计分体制和成绩报导方式 自2005年6月起，面向所有考生，四、六级考试成绩将采用满分为710分的计分体制，不设及格线；成绩报导方式由考试合格证书改为成绩报告单，即考后向每位考生发放成绩报告单，报导内容包括：总分、单项分等；为使学校理解考试分数的含义并根据各校的实际情况合理使用考试测量的结果，四、六级考试委员会将向学校提供四、六级考试分数的解释。 （二）考试内容改革 按照《大学英语课程教学要求（试行）》修订考试大纲，开发新题型，加大听力理解部分的题量和分值比例，增加快速阅读理解测试，增加非选择性试题的题量和分值比例。试行阶段的四、六级考试内容由四部分构成：听力理解、阅读理解、综合测试和写作测试。听力理解部分的比例提高到35%，其中听力对话占15%，听力短文占20%。听力对话部分包括短对话和长对话的听力理解；听力短文部分包括短文听写和选择题型的短文理解；听力题材选用对话、讲座、广播电视节目等更具真实性的材料。阅读理解部分比例调整为35%，其中仔细阅读部分（Careful Reading）占25%，快速阅读部分（Fast Reading）占10%。仔细阅读部分除测试篇章阅读理解外，还包括对篇章语境中的词汇理解的测试；快速阅读部分测试各种快速阅读技能。综合测试比例为15%，由两部分构成。第一部分为完型填空或改错，占10%；第二部分为短句问答或翻译，占5%。写作能力测试部分比例为15%，体裁包括议论文、说明文、应用文等。试行阶段四、六级考试各部分测试内容、题型和所占分值比例如下表所示：近期内，四、六级考试口语考试仍将与笔试分开实施，继续采用已经实施了五年的面试型的四、六级口语考试（CET-SET）。同时，考委会将积极研究开发计算机化口语测试，以进一步扩大口语考试规模，推动大学英语口语教学。 （三）考务管理体制改革 2005年6月起，教育部考试中心将启用新的四、六级考试报名和考务管理系统，严格认定考生报名资格，加强对考场组织和考风考纪的管理，切实做好考试保密工作。从2006
