SOMETIMES we make friends with unexpected people. For example, who would have

thought that a spider would make friends with a pig? But in E. B. White's classic novel "Charlotte's Web", this is exactly what happens.

The pair will appear in a movie at the end of this year.

In the story, Wilbur is an ill-fated (倒霉的) pig. When he is born, he is so small that the farmer decides to end the pig's life. Luckily, the farmer's daughter stops him from killing Wilbur and volunteers to raise the pig in a barnyard (谷仓前的空地) .

Wilbur grows day by day and makes many friends in the barnyard, including the spider, Charlotte. However, one day a sheep tells Wilbur that he will be served up as dinner. But, Charlotte has made up her mind to save her friend from this danger. By making words such as "famous pig" in her web, she makes the farmer believe that Wilbur is some sort of supernatural (神奇的) animal, too important to kill. After Wilbur is saved, Charlotte is so tired that she finally dies.

Unusually, the author makes a spider the heroine (女英雄) of the book. Spiders are creatures many people normally regard with fear. Charlotte does everything in her power to keep Wilbur alive. It shows how a strong friendship can last through the worst possible times.

Who would you like to make friends with if you could?

When you make a mistake, big or small, treasure it as it's the most valuable thing in the world.

Most of us feel bad when we make mistakes, beat ourselves up about it, feel like failures, and get mad at ourselves.

And that's only natural: Most of us have been taught from a young age that mistakes are bad, and we should try to avoid mistakes. We've been punished when we make mistakes — at home, school and work. Maybe not always, but probably enough times to make feeling bad about mistakes an unconscious reaction(无意识的反应).

Yet without mistakes, we could not learn or grow. If you think about it that way, mistakes should be treasured and celebrated for being one of the most amazing things in the world: They make learning possible; they make growth and improvement possible.

By test and error — trying things, making mistakes, and learning from those mistakes — we have found out how to make electric lights, to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, and to fly.

Mistakes make walking possible for the smallest toddler, make speech possible, and make works of genius(天才) possible.

Think about how we learn: We don't just get information about something and know it at once or know how to do it. You don't just read about painting, or writing, or computer programming, or baking, or playing the piano, and know how to do them right away. Instead, you get information about something, from reading or from another person or from watching usually ... then you set a model in your mind ... then you test it out by trying it in the real world ... then you make mistakes ... then you correct the model based on the results of your real world experiment ... and repeat, making mistakes, learning from those mistakes, until you've pretty much learned how to do something.

That's how we learn as babies and toddlers, and how we learn as adults. Mistakes are how we learn to do something new — because if you succeed in something, it's probably something you already knew how to do. You haven't really grown much from that success — at most it's the last step on your journey, not the whole journey. Most of the journey is made up of mistakes, if it's a good journey.

So if you value learning, if you value growing and improving, then you should value mistakes. They are amazing things that make a world full of wonders possible.

34. According to the passage, how should we treat mistakes?

A. We should try to avoid making mistakes.

B. We should owe great inventions mainly to mistakes.

C. We should treat mistakes as good chances to learn.

D. We should make feeling bad about mistakes an unconscious reaction.

35. The underlined word “toddler” in Paragraph 6 probably means ________.

A. a small child learning to walk

B. a kindergarten child learning to draw

C. a primary pupil learning to read

D. a school teenager learning to write

36. We can learn from the passage that ________.

A. most of us can really grow from success

B. growing and improving are based on mistakes

C. we learn to make mistakes by test and error

D. we read about something and know how to do it right away

37. The author wants to tell us ________.

A. what you should do when meeting with difficulties

B. where you can find your mistakes

C. how you can avoid making mistakes

D. why you should celebrate your mistakes

I used to be the messiest person alive. Over the years, through watching others and by trying again and again, I have finally found ways to come up with plans, organize them and follow through with them.

Make a general list of everything you need to have and do to make your plan happen. Make a list of all steps that need to be completed and think about what needs to be done.

Detail everything completely and read it over so you can start coming up with some good ideas of how to carry out your plans.

You should make sure that if, for some reason, way one doesn?t work, you have way two and way three to depend on. So, different ways are needed at hand. It?s just a matter of being

organized. Chances are that there is always more than one way of doing things, and that if one of those ways doesn?t work, one of the others will.

Committing (承诺) yourself to finishing at least part if not all of your plan at once is also necessary. It will show that you not only have ways to get things going, but that you are interested in the results gained with making the move to get everything done.

If you make a promise to finish before a certain time, make sure that you carry that out, and be sure to do everything in the way you said you would, within the time limit(限制) you set for yourself.

Don?t try to solve more things all at a time. All that does is slow your progress, take away your attention and make you lose your interest and energy.

Carrying out an effective plan requires being as organized as possible. You will only achieve this by sticking to the order of the plan and not changing, or trying to do more at a time.

Last but not least, you should never give up things halfway. It will only make everyone around you angry, including yourself. Unfinished plans are a waste of time, energy and, in some cases, even money.

So, don?t be afraid of organization. The older we get, the more necessary it becomes to have the skills to follow through with confidence and to be able tocarry through plans in an
