A Montana man who was apparently trying to produce a Bigfoot sighting by dressing up in a costume and rushing out onto a dark stretch of highway was struck and killed by two passing cars, officials said.

Randy Lee Tenley,44,of Kalispell,Mont.,was apparently wearing a Ghillie suit at

the time.That s a camouflage outfit(伪装服)—sometimes used by military snipers(狙

击手)or hunters—designed to resemble dense,thick plant leaves.

“What we know so far is that we had a couple of guys out, claiming that they were trying to make a sighting of Bigfoot,” Montana Highway Patrol Lt.Col.Butch Huseby told the Los Angeles Times. The officer added:“This is one of the dumbest things I ve ever seen.Really.”

But it was no doubt a frightening sight for the teenage girl who was driving

down a two-lane highway at about10:30pm Sunday near Flathead Lake in northeastern Montana. That s when Tenley, dressed in the camo(迷彩装),stepped out onto the roadway, officials say.

The girl s car struck Tenley, who was then struck by a second car—also driven by

a teenage girl,Huseby said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation, including whether the man involved was drinking at the time and whether the drivers were in any way culpable,Huseby said.

He added that the teenage drivers—assuming they re unfamiliar with military camouflage—probably had no idea what they were seeing. And they might indeed

have thought they were seeing Bigfoot,or Sasquatch.

“For somebody who has never seen a Ghillie suit, they look absolutely odd.You would not understand what you were looking at,especially in the dark,” he said.“It goes from head to toe.You would look at it and think,‘What in the world is that?’”

Tenley was with a buddy at the time, and that friend told authorities what the

pair was up to,Huseby said.

A downpour showered President Barack Obama last Saturday at his outdoor campaign event in Glen Allen where he told a wet but excited crowd of900people that his purpose is to“rebuild our economy so that it lasts”.

“That is our central purpose,” Obama said.“That is what this campaign is about. That is what I have been working on for the last three and one-half years. That is why I m running for a second term as president of the United States.”

In the final hours of his two-day,five stop campaign blitz(闪电战)through the Old Dominion,Obama delivered essentially the same speech at the historic Walkerton Tavern and Gardens that he delivered Friday in Hampton and Virginia Beach, where he focused on strengthening the middle class.

Obama said the“top-down” economic policies put forward by GOP(共和党) presidential candidate Mitt Romney are the same ones that created THE current economic crisis, which led to Obama taking office during the worst economic decline since the Great Depression.

“We did this and it didn t work,” Obama said.“We can t afford to go back to the top-down economics. We need somebody who believes in middle-out(以中产阶级

为中心)economics,a bottom-up economics...When working people do well, everybody does well. That means businesses have more customers.”

US representative,Robert C.“Bobby” Scott,D-Newport News, whose district includes parts of Richmond, took to the stage before the president arrived at the

event to tell the crowd that Virginia must go for Obama like it did in2008to keep

the president in the White House.

Already threatened by a slow breeding rate and rapid habitat loss,China s endangered giant pandas now also risk losing their staple(主食)food, bamboo,to climate change, claim scientists.

A study in China s northwestern Qinling Mountains, home to around270 pandas—about a fifth of the world s wild population—predicts a“substantial” bamboo decline this century as the globe warms.

“The pandas may face a shortage of food unless they can find alternative food resources,” a team of researchers from the United States and China warn in the journal Nature Climate Change.

The international symbol of environmental conservation efforts, the giant panda is a picky eater.

Ninety-nine per cent of its diet consists of bamboo—devouring up to38kilograms per day. This means the iconic(形象的)black-and-white bear s survival is closely linked to a thriving bamboo habitat.

Bamboo itself also has a slow reproductive rate, flowering only every30to35 years, which means it would be slow to adapt to a change in local climate, according to a statement on the research.

Based on the data gathered for this study, researchers predict that three bamboo species which make up almost the entire diet of the Qinling pandas, will all but disappear in a warmer climate.

“Results suggest that almost the entire panda habitat in the region may disappear by the end of the21st century,” the study s authors write.

Find summer on the beaches of Brazil

When2016comes round,Rio de Janeiro will be very popular and fashionable,so why not get in before the Olympic rush? The country covers9,000kilometres of coastline and offers some of the most perfect beaches on the planet.

Just hearing the names Copacabana and Ipanema is enough to transport the imagination to a world of golden sands where perfect bodies play volleyball on the beach or bathe in the sunshine.Rio,Cidade Maravilhosa, the“wonderful city”,is not content with being home to what are probably the two most famous beaches.Instead, the traveller has such a long list of appealing alternatives to choose from that it s not an easy decision:what about Botafogo beach with its views of the Sugar Loaf and Corcovado with the unmistakable Christ the Redeemer statue, for example,Leblon maybe,or Prainha,a favourite among surfers?

But if you re looking for less-spoiled settings, you don t need to go far:just a couple of hours north of Rio,there are a score of beaches offering a taste of paradise. And heading south, you ll find no fewer than two thousand beaches divided among the eight bays and365islands of Angra dos Reis—one island for every day of the year!Just a little farther on,almost on the border with the state of S?o Paulo, lies the small town of Paraty, the former colonial port from which gold and coffee was shipped to Lisbon.

由题干中的“February”可将答案锁定在“February 6th”的话题“An Update on the Costwold Canals”中。 再结合“I was planning to have dinner that very night.” 由“…with an exhibition bring together over 200 paintings, sculptures, drawings and more.” 29. A。 根据第一段“…the visitors will find the best pieces, most importantly the Persistence of Memory”可知,该作品在Dali的最佳作品中是最重要的,由此可以推断它是Dali的杰作之一。 30. D。 根据第二段末句中的“…follo ws a path of time and subject.” 31. A。 33. A。 由第二段“Over the years, Parisian cafes have fallen victim to changes in the French lifestyle…”

A Pet owners are being encouraged to take their animals to work, a move scientists say can be good for productivity, workplace morale (士气), and the well-being of animals. A study found that 25% of Australian women would like to keep an office pet. Sue Chaseling of Petcare Information Service said the practice of keeping office pets was good both for the people and the pets. “On the pets’ side, they are not left on their own and won’t feel lonely and unhappy,” she said. A study of major US companies showed that 73% found office pets beneficial, while 27% experienced a drop in absenteeism (缺勤). Xarni Riggs has two cats walking around her Global Hair Salon in Paddington. “My customers love them. T hey are their favorites,” she said. “They are not troublesome. They know when to go and have a sleep in the sun.” Little black BJ has spent nearly a ll his two years “working” at Punch Gallery in Balmain. Owner Iain Powell said he had had cats at the gallery for 15 years. “BJ often lies in the shop window and people walking past tap on the glas s,” he said. Ms Chaseling said cats were popular in service industries because they enabled a point of conversation. But she said owners had to make sure both their co-workers and the cats were comfortable. 56. The percentage of American companies that are in favor of keeping office pets is ______. A. 73% B. 27% C. 25% D. 15% 57. We know from the text that “BJ” ______. A. works in the Global Hair Salon B. often greets the passers-by C. likes to sleep in the sun D. is a two-year-old cat 58. The best title for this text would be ______. A. Pets Help Attract Customers B. Your Favorite Office Pets C. Pets Join the Workforce D. Busy Life for Pets B MONTREAL (Reuters) --- Crossing the US-Canada border to go to church on a Sunday cost a US citizen $10,000 for breaking Washington’s strict new security rules. The expensive trip to church was a surprise for Richard Albert, who lives right on the Canadian border. Like the other half-dozen people of Township 15, crossing the border is a daily occurrence for Albert. The nearby Quebec village of St. Pamphile is where they shop, eat and go to church. There are many such situations in these areas along the largely unguarded 5, 530-mile border between Canada and the US- which in some cases actually runs down the middle of streets or through buildings. As a result, Albert says he did not expect any problems three weeks ago when he returned home to the US after attending church in Canada, as usual. The US customs station in this area is closed on Sundays, so he just drove around the locked gate, as he had done every weekend since the gate appeared last May, following a tightening of border security. Two days later, Albert was told to go to the customs office, where an officer told him he had been caught on camera crossing the border illegally. Ottawa has given out special passes to some 300 US citizens in that area so they can enter the country when Canadian customs stations are closed, but the US stopped a similar program last May. That forces the people to a 200-mile detour along hill roads to get home country through another border checkpoint. Albert has requested that the customs office change their decisions on the fine, but he has not attended a Sunday church since. “I feel like I’m living in a prison,” he said. 59. We learn from the text that Richard Albert is ______. A. an American living in Township 15 B. a Canadian living in a Quebec village

I let a salescler k fool me into buying a discontinued model. I realized this a day later, when I saw newspaper advertisements for the set at seventy-five dollars less than I had paid. The set worked so beautiful when I first got it home that I would keep it on until stations signed off for the night. Fortunately, I didn’t get any channels showing all-night movies or I would never have gotten to bed. Then I started developing a problem with the set that involved static(静电) noise. For some reason, when certain shows switched into a commercial, a loud noise would sound for a few seconds. Gradually, this noise began to appear during a show, and to get rid of it, I had to change to another channel and then change it back. Sometimes this technique would not work, and I had to pick up the set and shake it to remove the sound. I actually began to build up my arm
