安格斯奇遇记(4)：Angus and wag-tail-bess（英汉双语彩色绘本）

Once there was an Airedale puppy and she was named W ag-Tail-Bess because her Mother’s name was Bess and her Father’s name was W ags.

But W ag-Tail-Bess never wagged her tail or stuck up her ears or smiled as an Airedale should, so she was called plain Bess.

曾经有一只爱尔谷犬，名叫摇尾巴狗贝丝，因为她妈妈的大名叫贝丝，父亲则叫摇尾巴狗。

但贝丝从来不会像一只爱尔谷犬那样，摇一下尾巴，竖起耳朵，或露出一丝微笑。所以大家都叫她平庸的贝丝。

Bess was so shy she was afraid of almost everything, although she was big enough to

know better.

When Bess was Outdoors she was afraid to

come Indoors, and when she was Indoors she

was afraid to go Outdoors.

贝丝很害羞，她几乎对所有的东西都感到害怕，尽管她已经长大了，该更好地知道些事儿了。

当贝丝在屋外时，她害怕进到屋里；但她在屋里玩时，又害怕到屋外去。

When Bess was taken walking she was afraid to walk forward, so she would try to walk backwards, and when she couldn’t go backwards—

She would lie down. 便赖在地上不走了——

Bess was even afraid to eat her dinner.

She would sniff at it on this side and sniff at it

on that side, until at last she would get so hungry.

She would gulp down her dinner without chewing

it at all.

贝丝甚至害怕吃东西。

她这边闻一下，那边嗅两下，直到最后她真的饿了，便狼吞虎咽地吃了起来，

丝毫不加咀嚼。

Then Bess would be afraid because her tummy ached.

接下来，贝丝又害怕起来，她的胃开始痛了。

At night time Bess was afraid of a STRANGE BLACK CREATURE.

Sometimes IT was small and sometimes IT was large, but always IT would stay with Bess wherever she went, crawling on the floor and climbing up the stairs and down the stairs, and sometimes on the wall.

到了晚上，贝丝害怕一个奇怪的黑乎乎家伙。

有时它很小，有时又变得很大，无论贝丝走到哪里，它总是形影不离——趴在地上，爬到楼梯上，有时又挂在墙上。
