看到英英解释，water-resistant不是只完全能隔绝水而只是有一定的防水功能，所以还是和waterproof有区别。

这两个名词都是由不同的词组合起来形成新意义的词，我们叫compound word（复合词）。英语里的复合词非常多，惯用的复合词已经不用中间连接符号hyphen了，如sunglasses, bus stop。
