Oh, it's the sexy slice from before. It's the broodingman from the Coffee Spoon. So fi rst things first, why did you want to make a game about dating gaydads? Dads and d ad jokes are something that isgoing to be funny to a lot of people and we can usethat comedy to tell a narrative that we think isimportant. And then what we think is im portant tous is telling a LGBT narrative that people could relate to and that people c ould find is fun andfunny and just enjoyable. You know it's very easy in comedy to p unch down and I think that'sa really lazy form of humor that comedy writers rely on a lot and that's something that I steeraway from in my work. But especially as a que er woman like I know what hurts and it's so muchmore interesting and fun to try to w rite jokes that come from a place of positivity.

It was absolutely meant to be a LGBT title. Just the idea of a game for people who might nothave a game that is representative of them. I think it originally branched f rom creatingsomething that was kind of revolving around dad jokes and dad culture, but the further we gotinto it, we realized it would kind be disingenuous for it to not be sensitive about these issues. And as a queer woman, it was really important to m e that we were able to tell a queer storythat's light-

hearted and fun and silly and respectful of the themes in the game. Do you think ag ame like this could become as popular as it has done 10 years ago? I don't think it c ould havebeen as successful 10 years ago, partially because we've become a lot mor e open to LGBTstories, but also because of the way that we share things on the inter net. There are a lot oforganically shareable elements to it. So instead of us doing an advertisement or a trailer, it wasa lot of people drawing fan art, writing fun fiction, making memes about the game or posting screen captures.

2. steer away from 避开,远离

3. be representative of 代表……

4. be sensitive about 对……敏感

例句:Young people are very sensitive about their appearance.

Food and mood

Cosuming food can be a pleasurable thing –

we enjoyfeasting on the mix of tastes and textures and itstops us feeling hungry too. Of course, food alsogives us energy and the vitamins and minerals thatour body nee ds. It's no wonder we spend so muchtime preparing and eating food. But what many of usdon't consider is how our emotions are affected by what we put into our bellies. For me, it's the unhealthy foods that put a smile on my face –

chocolate, cakes and ice cream –

well, I do have a sweet tooth! It might seem obvious that food that's bad for our wa istline, usually makes us happy, at least in the short term. Most of us get this feeling when we usefood as a quick pick-me-

up. But dieticians tell us that eating bad food long term, not onlymakes us put on wei ght but can lead to other health conditions such as diabetes, and it canalso affect o ur mental state and bring on depression.

The link between our mind and food has been looked at by scientists. They've recently foundthat it's the bacteria in our gut that affects our mood. It's thought we have 39 trillion of thesesimple, small organisms in our body. Researchers at McMaster Univer sity in Canada andUniversity College Cork in Ireland, have found that certain 'good' bacteria help reduce anxiety in mice. And researchers at Kyushu University also fou nd that germs help reduce stress and anxiety in mice. Experts believe that, for us hu mans, this means food with 'good' bacteria canimprove the way we feel.

Many food products are claiming to be high in this 'good' bacteria and some of the b est typesare homemade fermented food like miso soup, yoghurt and sauerkraut. This really makes methink twice about what I eat –

maybe I should change my diet to perk me up! Doctor MichaelMosley would agree. H e's been looking into this for the BBC and says the best food to cheer usup is in a "Me diterranean diet. Olive oil; oily fish, full of omega 3, which is really good for thebrain; whole grains; lots of fruits and vegetables. Sugar: terrible for you!"

So maybe it's time to lay off the fatty and sugary things. Eating healthily may seem s imple, even if the science behind it is complex. It's not rocket science this is further evidence forthe saying 'we are what we eat' –

the person we are is determined by the food we eat. Thereare other factors that ca n change our mood but it seems we have some ability to improve howwe feel by cont rolling what we put on our plate. Does your diet affect your mood?

1.dietician 营养师

例句:I have no doubt she would make a good dietitian.

By the time they finish, the crewmen arestanding ankle-deep in fish guts.

3. germ

Chlorine is widely used to kill germs.

4. ferment

The dried grapes are allowed to ferment until there is no sugar left and the wine is dry.

Coffee under threat

Do you like drinking coffee? I certainly do. In fact youcould say I'm an addict because I have to drink a cupevery morning to kick-

start my day and get my brainworking! Latte, cappuccino, espresso –

you name it, I'll drink it. And I'm not alone –

it seems likeeveryone has a coffee cup glued to their hands asthey rush to the office. So how would we survive if there was a coffee drought?

Well, experts are warning that our favourite caffeine shot could really be under thre at. Ourlove for coffee could mean that demand outstrips supply. This, of course, coul d hit us in thepocket but there's even worse news – we could face poorer-

tasting coffee. This is the view ofscientists at London's Kew Gardens who are blaming global warming for this possible hotbeverage crisis.

Demand for coffee has certainly increased as people have become more affluent. Co nsumptionhas doubled in the last 35 years. Last year 9.5 billion kilos were consumed. But as we drinkmore, the areas where coffee is grown is predicted to shrink. The In ternational CoffeeOrganisation says that bean production in South East Asia, for exa mple, will decrease by 70% by 2050. The BBC spoke to Dr Tim Schilling, director of the World Coffee Research institute, who says: "The supply of high-

quality coffee is severely threatened by climate change, diseases and pests, land pr essure, and labour shortages - and demand for these coffees isrising every year." This is a sobering thought for those of us who rely on a caffeine fix everyday but mo reworrying for people who work in the industry. Coffee provides a livelihood for about 16% ofEthiopia's population. And across the globe, extreme weather events are pr oving a challenge to coffee growers in places such as Brazil and Vietnam.

There is some hope. Technology is helping to protect the future of coffee such as 'br eeding'the Arabica bean plants to increase its diversity and making it resistant to cl imatic changes. It's also possible to relocate the coffee-growing areas –

although this sometimes leads toareas being deforested. Dr Aaron Davis, coffee rese archer at Kew, says:

“There is the potential to mitigate some of the negatives and actually increase the c offee-

growing area by four and ahalf times compared with maintaining the status quo.” Bu

2. aggro

例句:Don't give me any aggro or I'll call the police!

4. overzealous

Bikes outnumber humans here. They say the cyclingis in the Dutch DNA. So how did t hey achieve thisutopia? Cycling is an egalitarian mode of transport. Roughly half of inner-

city journeys are made on twowheels. You really feel like the streets belong to you. A nd that gives you a sense of freedom. An elaborate network of bike paths criss-cross thecity. Segregated cycle lanes make people feel safer and reduce the risk of c ollision. Controversially it also means hardly anyone wears a helmet.Zero air pollution. It's good for your health. Flexibility. Actually you get to see a lot of the city. There are approximately 10,000 bikes spots around the central train sta tion alone. Being alsocyclists, most drivers in Amsterdam know next time it might be them in the saddle. Even thefamous Rijks museum accommodates bikes. You see th

e signs everywhere. The cyclist is king ofthe road.

3. elaborate adj.

4. criss-cross v.

初二英语阅读理解精选题(一) My class will put on a short play in English at the end of the year. Yesterday our English teacher gave us copies of the play. “Choose a character in the play whom you’d like to be, ”she told us. “This afternoon learn a few lines of this part for homework. Then tomorrow you can say those lines in front of the class. I’ll decide who play each part.” I wanted to have one of the bigger parts in the play, so I choose the part of the king. He has a lot of lines to say. I learned them by heart. This morning in our English lesson we had to say our lines. I acted the part of the king. When I said my lines, I put a lot of expression into my acting. I thought I acted really well. Everyone in the class read a part and then the teacher who would play each part. Many of the students in my class couldn’t act at all. They couldn’t even read without making lots of mistakes. I was sure that I would get a big part in the play. However, the teacher gave me the part of a soldier. He has only one line. It is, “Yes, sir!” I was very disappointed. At the end of the lesson I went up to her and asked her why I had such a small part. “You put too much expression in your acting,” she said. “Good acting is not big acting. It is acting the audience can believe in.” I think I know what she means. 48. What did the boy want to do in the play? A. To get an important part B. To organize the play C.

【命题形式】这类题主要是针对who, what, which, why, how, when, where等来提问的。如: 1.Which of the following statements is true/NOT true/false, according to the passage? 2. Which of the following statements is (not) correct? 3. In the passage, which of the following is mentioned / not mentioned? 4. All the following statements are not true except ______. 5. All the statements are true except______. 6. Choose the right order of the events given in the passage? 7. When/Where did the story happen?

He looked at me and said, “Sweetheart, I remember14 about that day, not before, during or after the accident. I remember telling you goodnight the night before, though.” He managed a weak smile.

When times get tough, we all look for ways to cut back. When we're hungry, we eat at home instead of going out. We take buses instead of taxis. And we wear our old designer jeans just a few months longer. With college expenses at all-time highs, high school students are eager to do anything to cut the cost of a university education. One cost-cutting proposal is to allow college students to get a bachelor's degree in three years instead of four. Educational institutions have been actively exploring ways to make the learning process more efficient. But there's a question: Would the quality of undergraduate education suffer? Few US universities have formally approved a "three-year degree" model. I doubt that mainstream North American colleges will carry out a three-year curriculum any time soon. For one thing, most universities already allow highly qualified students to graduate early by testing out of certain classes and obtaining a number of college credits. In addition, at famous universities, the committee who determine which courses are required and which courses are electives are unlikely to suddenly "throw out" one quarter of the required credits. Professors will resist "diluting (稀释)" the quality of the education they offer. In my opinion, a quality four-year education is always superior to a quality three-year education. A college education requires sufficient time for a student to become skilled in their major and do coursework in fields outside their major. It is not a good idea to water down education, any more than it's not a good idea to water down medicine. If we want to help students find their way through university, we should help them understand early on what knowledge and skills they need to have upon graduation. We should allow students to test out of as many courses as possible. We should give them a chance to earn money as interns (实习生) in meaningful part-time jobs that relate to their university studies, such as the five-year co-op program at Northeastern University. (1)Which of the following can best sum up the main idea? A.It's time to shorten the learning process. B.Best learning takes place over time. C.University education should be watered down. D.College education calls for reform. (2)We can learn from the passage that ________. A.most American universities are against the "three-year degree" model B.many famous US universities are considering adopting the "three-year degree" model C.professors are willing to accept the "three-year degree" model D.The "three-year degree" model can make college learning more efficient (3)In most US universities, ________. A.college students are offered the co-op program B.electives' credits make up one quarter of the required credits C.all students are required to finish four-year education before graduation D.some excellent students can graduate ahead of time
