We had moved from Cairo to Mt. Vernon, Illinois, far away from my grandmother when I was eight years old. I missed her a lot. I was told I was her favorite grandchild; She was my favorite“granny”. She was my father?s mother.

Two years later my mother and father divorced（离婚）. I felt as if my world was falling apart. My heart was broken. Mother must have known my sadness, for she would take my little brother and my back to visit my Granny from time to time, even after the divorce.

On last Christmas Day, our parents? home was full of joys of a close family relationship, but this year things were different. Our father had passed away on November 26, and this was our first Christmas without him. Mother was doing her best to be good, but I could tell this was especially hard for her.
