Language points

1) That smells delicious.

smell v. 闻起来,感官动词,充当系动词,后跟形容词,无进行时态和被动语态。其他的感官动词还有:look 看起来,taste 尝起来,feel 摸起来,sound 听起来。

That music sounds beautiful. It doesn’t fell comfortable.

系动词知识讲解:

系动词的定义:系动词亦称联系动词(Link Verb),作为系动词,它本身有词义,但不能单独用作谓语,后边必须跟表语(亦称补语),构成系表结构说明主语的状况、性质、特征等情况。

系动词的分类:

1.表示主语的身份、性质、状态等地系动词,常有be.

2.表示特征或状态的系动词,有look, feel, smell, taste, sound等。

3.表示保持某种状态的系动词,有keep, stay, live, stand 等。

例如:

The fish soup smells fresh.

1. feel\look\smell\taste\sound+adj. 构成系表结构(即系动词+表语)

Eg:The food tastes delicious.

The music sounds good.

2. what a delicious smell!

本句是一个感叹句,感叹句的常见结构为:

what+a\an+adj.+可数名词单数(+主语+谓语)!

what+adj.+不可数名词\可数名词复数(+主语+谓语)!

how +adj. (+主语+谓语)!

Eg:What a beautiful girl (she is)!

=How beautiful the (girl is)!

此外,smell在本句中作名词,表示“香味”。

3. would you like to try some?

●Would you like……?是一个表示请求的句型,句中用some\something,而不用

any\anything。还可用于would like sth.\would (sb) like to do sth

5. a bit +adj.\adv.=a little +adj.\adv. 稍微,有点儿

a bit of +不可数名词=a little +不可数名词

6. there be 句型表示“某地有……”,其中be只有is\are,判断主谓一致时遵循就近一致的原则。变成否定时在be后加not;变成一般疑问句时将be提至句首,肯定回答用Yes, there is\are. 否定回答用No, there isn’t\aren’t.

【拓展】there be 句型在一般将来时中的应用:

There will be……\There is(are) going to be ……

四、语法点拨:感官动词(Sense verbs)

感官动词又称为知觉动词;是使用人的身体器官去做动作的动词。例如,用眼睛看、耳朵听、嘴巴吃甚至感觉等。英文中的感官动词有:see, look, watch, hear, sound, taste, smell, feel.

感官动词是系动词的一种。在英语的动词中,有的后面要接名词或代词作宾语,有的单独作谓语,而有的动词要接形容词或名词等作表语。我们把后面接表语的动词称为系动词。

最常用、也是同学们最熟悉的系动词就是be动词;除be动词外,表感觉和知觉的动词也可以是系动词。请看下列图画:

我们再看出现在课本中的几个英语句子:

That smells delicious! It tastes too strong.

They taste really sweet. It feels very soft and comfortable.

You both look very smart. And she looks very pretty in her photo.

This milk smells sour. These shoes feel tight.

Is it fish soup? It tastes salty. Have the children gone home? It sounds quiet.

He looks strong. She sounds really nice. You look very smart.

…由此可见,感官动词是这个单元的重点之重点,需要注意的是,这类系动词与系动词be不同,其否定形式和疑问形式的构成要加助动词才行。

e.g.Does the party sound noisy?聚会(听起来)很吵吗?

The dishes don’t smell very nice to me.这些菜我闻着并不很香。

Does he look worried?他看起来很焦虑吗?

The cake doesn’t taste delicious?蛋糕尝起来并不好吃。

另外,感官动词用法有着许多相同点,但也有不同之处,请注意下列情况。

1.这些感官动词均可作连系动词,后面接形容词作表语,说明主语所处的状态。其意思分别为―看/听/闻/尝/摸起来……‖。除look之外,其它几个动词的主语往往是物,而不是人。

e.g.These flowers smell very sweet.这些花闻起来很香。

The tomatoes feel very soft. 这些西红柿摸起来很软。

2.这些动词后面也可接介词like短语,like后面常用名词。

e.g.Her idea sounds like fun. 她的主意听起来很有趣。

3.这些感官动词也可作实义动词,除look(当―看起来……‖讲时)只能作不及物动词外,其余几个既可作及物动词也可作不及物动词,其主语通常是人。

e.g.She smelt the meat.她闻了闻那块肉。

I felt in my pocket for cigarettes. 我用手在口袋里摸香烟。

4.taste, smell作不及物动词时,可用于―taste / smell + of + 名词‖结构,意为―有……味道/ 气味‖。

e.g.The air in the room smells of earth. 房间里的空气有股泥土味。

5.它们(sound除外)可以直接作名词,与have或take构成短语。

e.g.May I have a taste of the mooncakes? 我可以尝一口这月饼吗?

6.其中look, sound, feel还能构成―look / sound / feel + as if +从句‖结构,意为―看起来/听起来/ 感觉好像……‖。

e.g.It looks as if our class is going to win. 看来好像我们班要获胜了。
