ENROLMENT VARIATIONS

You can make enrolment variations by using the Student Administration section in MyUni for most changes to your unit selections. Some units require special permission to enroll, and you

will need to follow the given instructions for that unit to be enrolled. Please contact the Student Administration Centre if you are unsure about any particular process. All variations to your units

of study are also subject to published prerequisite and corequisite requirements.

You can withdraw from any unit of study without academic or financial penalty provided this

is done before the relevant census date. Changes requested after the census dates will not be approved without penalty unless special circumstances apply. Such circumstances will, in all cases, be events considered beyond the control of the student, and must be approved by the Associate Dean (Education) via application through the SAC.

APPLYING FOR CREDIT

Students who have undertaken prior tertiary-level study (including a completed TAFE Diploma) may be granted advanced standing towards their current award course. Credit will be offered in accordance with the resolutions for the award course in which you are enrolled. The amount of credit you can be awarded varies depending on the course you are enrolled in, so please check your course handbook to find out how much credit you can apply for.

You will need to have an original copy of your academic record for your previous study to support your application. You can get the undergraduate and postgraduate credit application forms at the SAC or on the Faculty web page.

COURSE UPGRADES AND TRANSFERS

Postgraduate coursework students looking to transfer to another stream in their program or upgrade to a longer award program should fill in an upgrade/transfer form and lodge it at the Student Administration Centre. Some upgrades are subject to the student achieving a high enough weighted average mark (WAM). You will not be notified of your outcome until after results have been processed for the previous semester.

PRE-ENROLMENT

Pre-enrolment is an annual process whereby continuing students (excluding non-award/non-degree) choose and submit their enrolment selections for the upcoming academic year.

The 2013 pre-enrolment process is expected to commence in October 2012.

STUDENT ADMINISTRATION CENTRE

APPLICATIONS FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

Assessments are designed to provide feedback on performance or to establish that students have achieved an adequate standard to proceed or to graduate from their chosen award. The University’s assessment system is designed to ensure that conditions are fair to all students, are as consistent as possible and that individual students are not disadvantaged by adverse personal circumstances beyond their control or by the activities of other students. Generally, serious illness, injury or misadventure will be taken into account when considering a student’s performance in a course or unit of study. There is, however, a clear distinction between longstanding illnesses or difficulties which prevent students from attending classes or completing required work or which seriously interfere with their capacity to study for long periods and short-term illnesses, injuries or misadventures which may prevent a well-prepared student from sitting for an examination or completing a particular assessment. In general, the provisions of Special Consideration are intended to apply to the latter situations.

COURSE SUSPENSION AND DISCONTINUATION

We use the term suspension when referring to students who have begun their degree program but who wish to pause their studies for one or two semesters. Suspension differs to deferment in that deferment is for students who haven’t started their degree yet and want

to delay their start date, whereas suspension is for students who have already begun their degree, but want to pause their studies (with the intention of picking up where they left off, at a later date.)

There are some points that you should be aware of before you suspend your studies:

? Students can only suspend for up to two semesters at one time.

? Suspension applications are made using a Variation of Enrolment Form, and must always be submitted to the Student Administration Centre before the last day for withdrawal in any semester. (Usually 31 March in Semester 1 and 31 August in Semester 2).

? Students are not usually allowed to suspend their studies in order to undertake studies elsewhere.

? Suspended students must contact the Student Administration Centre by the date indicated on their suspension letter in order to recommence their studies.

? Suspension may increase the duration of your award course, as some programs only offer core units of study in a restricted pattern (eg. Alternate years).

Discontinuation is stopping your studies in a degree program completely. Students who have decided not to study any further, who have transferred to another degree, another Faculty or another University must discontinue their degree.

Students who expect to graduate from their degree need not discontinue.

N.B. Once a postgraduate student is discontinued from a degree they will have to reapply for admission through the University website to study in that degree again.

9

OUTGOING EXCHANGE APPLICATION APPROVAL

Students interested in completing a part

of their course abroad should contact the Study Abroad and Exchange office in the first instance to research their options. Once you have chosen the institutions you are interested in, you will need to get your course coordinator to sign off on your application form to approve the intended study. https://www.wendangku.net/doc/a418802353.html,.au/ current_students/student_exchange/index. shtml

ADVICE ON ACADEMIC PROGRESSION

If you do not meet the academic progression requirements of your award course, you

may be placed on the academic progression register. It is important that you treat your academic progression seriously as failure to meet your award course requirements could eventually lead to exclusion. The Faculty Student Administration Centre can provide advice and support if you experience any problems with your progression.

THE SAC CAN ALSO PROVIDE ADVICE ON:? Scholarships and Prizes

? Results

? Completion and Graduation

? Timetables ART WORKSHOP ENROLMENT

The Art Workshops are visual arts units attached to the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning and are open to ALL University of Sydney students. The Art Workshop houses five visual arts studios and it provides students in architecture and the wider University with the opportunity to work in various media under the direction of professional practising artists.

The courses aim to develop the students’ creative potential as a means of complementing their work in architectural design.

These units are usually in high demand, so

if you are unsuccessful in getting a place

for the current semester, you should enrol

in the following semester at the earliest opportunity.

BUILDING ACCESS

In the first week of classes you will receive an email from the Student Administration Centre to inform you that your security swipe card access to the Wilkinson Building has been activated. If you have any problems with security access after receiving this email, please contact the Security Office on 93573487 or visit the Services Building with your student card to address the problem.
