本单元以Talk about abilities为话题, 共设计了三个部分的内容。

Section A

该部分有3个模块:第一模块围绕“Can you play the guitar?”这一话题展开思维(1a)、听力(1b)、口语(1c)训练;第二模块围绕“clubs” 进行听力(2a-2b)、口语训练(2c-2d);第三模块继续就上一模块中的“ability”and “clubs”这一话题展开训练,训练形式为以can为句首的一般疑问句及肯定和否定回答(3a),围绕“ability”这一话题展开阅读(3b)和写作(3c)训练。

Section B

该部分有3个模块:第一模块是词汇认读(1a-1b)与运用(1c),然后是关于abilities的一些词汇及短语的认读(1d)及练习(1e), 最后是can疑问句的对话练习(1f);第二模块是阅读练习(2a-2c); 第三模块围绕“Need some students for the school Music Festival”以填空的形式考查本单元的词汇(3a), (3b)部分是学生的自主练习。

该部分有3个模块:第一模块以单词短语检测形式对所学词汇进行分类训练;第二模块还是以单词检测形式对所学短语进行巩固训练;第三模块展开写作训练。

Step 1. Revision and lead-in

Before class, sing a song for students, and then ask about their abilities. Help them learn to ask and talk about abilities and joining clubs.

T: Hello, boys and girls. Nice to see you again. (Sing) “Good morning to you, good morning to

you, good morning, dear students, good morning to you.” Do you like singing?

S: Yes, we do.

T: Can you dance?

S: Yes, we can.

T: What else can you do?

S: We can swim, play chess, draw...

Step 2. Matching (la: P1)

In 1a, students will learn to talk about different kinds of abilities and different kinds of clubs.

T: You are great. You can sing, dance and so on. So you can enjoy yourselves with these things.

That must be great fun. Now please open your books at P1. Look at the words on the left.

They are words about abilities. Please read them. And we have seven pictures marked with a, b, c, d, e, f and g. Try to match the words and pictures.

Encourage the students to say something about the picture and do the match work.

T: What can people do in picture e?

S: They can sing.

T: Write “a” on the line next to the word “sing”.

Are you clear? Go on with the others in the same way. Then check the answers with the students. Step 3. Listening (Ib: P1)

First, ask students about their abilities and the clubs they want to join.

T: Can you sing?

S: Yes, I can. / No, I can’t.

T: I can draw. So I want to join the art club. How about you?

S: I can swim. So I want to join the swimming club.

S: I want to join the chess club.

T: Can you play chess?

S: Yes, I can.

T: Good, all of you are great.

Then ask students to listen to the recording and do Activity la.

T: Next we’ll listen to a recording. In the recording, people are talking about abilities and joining

clubs. Let’s listen and number the conversations. Play the recorder. Then check the answers.

After this, ask students to read after the recording.

Step 4. Pair work (Ic: P1)

Ask students to practice the conversation and make their own conversations.

T: You can do many things. It’s great. Now please talk to your partners about your abilities and tell them what club you want to join. Work in pairs and practice asking and answering questions

about your abilities. You can make your own conversations according to the dialogue you have

learned.

Step 5. Sum up

Ask some students to sum up this lesson by overhead projector and then have a test for the aim.

Check the answers and correct the answers.

Homework:

1. Ask students to learn the new words and phrases in this unit.

2. Ask students to found clubs of their own.

3. Make up a dialogue and act it out in pairs.

Period 2 Listening and speaking (II)

Step 1. Revision and lead-in

Before class, ask students what clubs there are in their class, what club they want to join and about then abilities.

T: Good morning, class. Nice to see you again. I can sing. I want to join the music club. Do you

have a music club in our class?

S: Yes, we have.

T: Do you have other clubs?

S: Yes, we do. We have English club, swimming club, art club…

Step 2. Listening (2a,-2b: P2)

In 2a, 2b, students will listen to the recording and learn to talk about the clubs they want to join.

T: There are so many clubs. Now some students want to join our clubs. Will you welcome them in?

S: Yes, we will.

T: OK. Let’s listen to the recording and find what clubs they want to join. Open you books and

turn to P2. Listen and circle the clubs you hear.

(Play the recorder, and check the answers. Ask students to listen to the recording and learn to talk about joining the club.)

T: Some students want to join the club. Look at the conversation in Activity 2b. Fill in the blanks.

Then ask them to listen to the recording and check the answers.

Step 3. Practicing in group (2c: P2)

Have students to practice the conversation and make their own conversations.

T: You ask these students join your clubs. Maybe your classmates want to join your club, too. Now

work in groups and practice asking and answering questions about the clubs they want to join

and their abilities. You can make your own conversations.

A sample conversation:

S1: What club does Lisa want to join?

S2: She wants to join the …

S1: What club does Bob want to join?

S2: He wants to join the …

Step 4. Sum up

Know about all kinds of clubs and encourage sb. take an active part in them, in order to find a good job in the future, we must have more activities.

Homework:

1. Ask students to do Activities in the Workbook.

2. Ask students to help their classmates to join the club.

3. Finish off all the exercises on the screen.

4. Make up a dialogue in pairs

5. Prepare for the next lesson.

Period 3 Integrating skills (I)

Before class, ask students to show how they can help others join a club. Then let them ask about others abilities and tell their classmates.

T: How do you help them? Who can show us?

Two students act it out.

Sample conversation:

Step 2. Practice conversation (3a: P3)

In 3a, students will go on to talk about others’ abilities.

T: Look, another girl wants to join our club. Let’s help her. Look at the conversation in Activity 3a,

please. T

Then ask them to practice the conversations.

Can Wu Jun speak English?

No, he can’t, but he can speak Chinese.

Step 3. Practice (3b: P3)

Complete the poster with the words in the box.

Step 4. Groupwork (4: P3)

Ask stude nts to make a survey about others’ abilities for the school show, and then make a list.

T: We will have a school show this Sunday. Please ask your group what they can do in the school

Show. Then make a list.
