Daddy

Daddy

Daddy, may I please borrow $10?

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his little son waiting

for him at the door.

“Daddy, may I ask you a question?”

“Yeah sure, what is it?” replied the man.

“Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”

“If you must know, I make $20 an hour.”

“Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I please borrow $10?”

The father was furious, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down.He went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

“Are you asleep, son?” He asked.

No daddy, I’m awake,”replied the boy.

“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,”said the man, “It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $10you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy!”He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father.

“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied. “Daddy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow.

I would like to have dinner with you.”

“Why don’t you give your old jack-in-the-box?” suggests Daddy Pig. “Oh, ok,” agrees Peppa. “Now it’s your turn Daddy. What are you going to give?”

“But it’s very old and valuable,” says Daddy Pig.“Hee hee,” says Mummy Pig. “Y ou found it on a rubbish tip!” Daddy Pig is not sure. “What about your old squeaky chair?” suggests Peppa helpfully.

Book Report 1.Title of the book: Daddy-long-legs 2. Brief introduction of the author:Jean Webster Jean Webster was born in New York in 1867, and she was an American writer and author of many books including Daddy-long-legs and Dear Enemy. She was a champion of women’s right and social reform. Daddy-long-legs (1912) brought her critical acclaim and financial success and was adapted into a play in 1914. She died giving birth to a daughter at the age of 40. And Jean Webster’s mother was a niece of Mark Twain. So that is to say, Webster was a grandniece of Mark Twain. Maybe her talent was a part from her familial inheritance. 3.The general ideas in the book The leading character in this book is Jerusha Abbott, a girl who was brought up at the John Grier Home, an old-fashioned orphanage. The children were wholly dependent on charity. Jerusha’s first name was selected by the matron off a gravestone, while her surname was selected out of the phone book. She didn’t like her name, so latter she changed it into Judy. At the age of 15, she has finished her education and was at loose ends, so the question of her future was brought up. Luckily, she had done well in school in certain branches and it seemed that her work

Daddy-Long-Legs长腿叔叔英文读后感

Not Just a Fairy T ale --Sentiment after reading Daddy-Long-Legs Daddy-Long-Legs, a best-known novel by the American writer Jean Webster, was written in the form of epistles, altogether 82 letters from our protagonist –Jerusha “Judy” Abbott. All these letters were written to her benefactor –the so-called “Daddy-Long-Legs” whose true name was Jervie Plendleton. A monthly letter to report her study was the only requirement of the wealthy asylum trustee “Daddy-Long-Legs” to finance orphan Judy’s college l ife, after he noticed Judy’s writing talent from her essay -- Blue Wednesday. Dedicated "To Y ou", the first person narrative novel leads readers, myself included, to the illusion that we are actually the receiver of Judy’s letters and the one she regarded as family. When reading the novel, we feel like the witnesses of Judy’s growing in the college. We can’t help worrying when the letters told us her ill or she’s in derision, delighting when she obtained a college scholarship, upsetting when she had to deny the genuine love of Jervie. Take it one step further; the reading process is like peeking at a girl’s diary, inducing a subtle excitement inside readers. Meanwhile, we are able to puzzle out, more or less, whom Daddy-Long-Legs is, but apparently Judy know s nothing about it. It’s a quite amusing and interesting experience to watch her gradually falling into the

Daddy

Her hair was up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow. Today was Daddy's Day at school, and she couldn't wait to go. But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home Why the kids might not understand, if she went to school alone. But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today. But still her mother worried, for her to face this day alone. And that was why once again, she tried to keep her daughter home. But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all. About a dad she never sees a dad who never calls. There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet. Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats One by one the teacher called a student from the class.

Daddy's hands

Daddy’s hands Floanne Kersh As my father's devoted and only daughter, I noticed things about him my two brothers never mentioned or may have taken for granted. Two things in particular made Daddy more wonderful, interesting and capable than all the other fathers I knew-----Daddy's large, sensitive hands. When he was a child, the eldest of seven children, Daddy went to work in order to help support his family. His own father’s failing health made it necessary for Daddy to drop out of school. He never complained about being a provider at such a young age. Perhaps that is where his hands found their direction. Daddy had long, nimble fingers that could thread the smallest needle in order to mend my dress or sew on a missing button. Those fingers had a magical way of playing the guitar, making the most beautiful music I ever heard. Daddy's inventive hands were also strong and

Mummy's Boy and Daddy's Girl

Assignment Read the following article and put it into Chinese. They may be the stereotypical butt of jokes. But mummy’s boys are less likely to suffer from poor mental health or unpopularity at school, research suggests. And the same is true for daddy’s girls, who enjoy a similar lift in their self-esteem and confidence. The study by the Marriage Foundation concluded that boys and girls who are close to their parent of the opposite sex fare better at coping with teenage life. Boys deemed ‘extremely close’ to their mothers at 14 are 41 percent less likely to have mental health problems, the research found. And girls close to their fathers are 44 percent less likely to suffer emotional problems or have trouble with their peers. While boys are happier when their parents are married, girls are more reassured by their parents demonstrating a high-quality relationship. “Our really interesting new finding is that boys and girls are especially influenced by their relationship with the opposite sex parent. The fact that these links only apply to one parent and not both suggests that it’s the closeness with parents that affects the child’s mental health and not the other way around.” Sir Paul Coleridge, chairman of Marriage Foundation, said: ‘“Mummy’s boys” and “daddy’s girls” have been known about for generations as something of a stereotypical joke. “But it seems that once again research supports anecdotal experience. Girls and boys, as they develop, do indeed have differing emotional needs and expectations and do best when these needs are satisfied. A strong relationship with the parent of the opposite sex boosts self-esteem and peer group relationship skills – both of which support sound mental health.”
