China T rain Guide

Quick Guide on China T rain Travel

If you’re looking for an affordable and comfortable way to get around China, train travel is the way to go. Getting train information and cheap train tickets has never been easier. Online train ticket booking makes it easy for travelers to look through China’s train timetable, compare train fares, and look for ticket availability. Once you’ve found a suitable train, you can book online and pick your tickets up at the train station or get them delivered to your home or hotel. Train tickets can be booked online a minimum of 35 minutes and a maximum of 60 days before departure.

How to choose train types

When you’re buying China train tickets online, you’11 notice that the journey duration differs depending on which type of train you choose. China train types can be recognized by their letter codes. —Online train ticket booking with a travel agency (up to 60 days before departure).

—At the train station/local ticket agency with your passport (up to 58 days before departure).

How to read train tickets

When reading your train ticket, please take note of the Chinese characters and Pinyin printed next to your departure/arrival city. Directions (North, South, East, and W est) appear in Pinyin (Bei, Nan, Dong, and Xi), not English. Please make sure you are going to the correct train station.

Four days after Dad’s 67th birthday, he had a heart attack. He was lucky—he survived. But something inside him had died. His enthusiasm for life was gone.

My husband and I asked Dad to live with us on our small farm, hoping the fresh air would help him adjust. Within a week after he moved in, I regretted the invitation. He criticized everything I did. I became frustrated.

One day I read an article about a nursing home. Several depressed patien ts’ attitudes had improved dramatically when they were given dogs. So, I drove to the animal shelter that afternoon. As soon as I got there, a pointer’s(指示犬)eyes caught my attention. They watched me calmly.

A staff member said: “He got here two weeks ago and we’ve heard nothing. His time is up tomorrow. ”I turned to the man in horror. “Y ou mean you’re going to kill him?”

“Ma’am,” he said gently. “W e don’t have room for every unclaimed dog.”

The pointer’s calm brown eyes awaited my decision. “I’ll take him,” I said.

Glancing at the dog, Dad wrinkled his face and turned back toward the house. Then, suddenly, the pointer pulled free from my grasp. He sat down in front of Dad. Dad’s anger melted, and soon he was hugging the animal.

It was the beginning of a warm friendship. Dad named the pointer Cheyenne. Together they spent long hours walking down dusty lanes and relaxing on the banks of streams.

Dad’s bitterness faded, and he and Cheyenne went on to make many friends. Then, late one night two years later, I felt Cheyenne’s cold nose searching through my bed covers. He had never come into our bedroom before at night. I ran into my father’s room and found that he had passed away.

Two days later, my shock and grief deepened when I discovered Cheyenne lying dead beside Dad’s bed. As I buried him near their favorite stream, I silently thanked the dog for restoring Dad’s peace of mind.

24. Why did Dad criticize everything the author did?

A. The disease took away his interest in life.

B. He didn’t like his daughter’s farm.

C. The state of his illness worsened.

D. His daughter couldn’t do things well.

25. What was Dad’s attitude when he first saw the dog?

A. Excited.

B. Satisfied.

C. Disappointed.

D. Unfriendly.

A. It accompanied him on his walk.

B.

It helped him make many friends.

C. It brought peace of mind back to him.

D. It improved the relationship between him and his daughter.

27. What’s the best title for the passage?

A. An Abandoned Dog.

B. Friends in the End.

C. Dad’s Recovery.

D. Dad’s Last days.

Being mistreated at work can make people take out their negative emotions(负面情绪)on loved ones at home. But a new study suggests that getting more exercise and sleep may help people better deal with them by leaving them at work, where they belong.

Previous research shows that employees who are looked down on by colleagues are likely to express their frustration(s沮丧)and behave angrily toward people outside of work, says study co-author Shannon Taylor, a management professor at the University of Central Florida’s College of Business.

The new study backs up this idea, but offers a bit of good news as well: Employees who averaged more than 10,500 steps a day or burned at least 2,100 calories were less likely to mistreat family members than those who averaged fewer steps or burned fewer calories.

The findings also indicated that when employees felt they had a bad night’s sleep because of work issues, they were more likely to be complaining(爱抱怨的)at home. “When you’re tired, you’re either less able or less motivated to control yourself,” says co-author Larissa Barber, a professor of psychology

at Northern Illinois University.

Physical activity seems to make up for poor sleep, Barber says, because it promotes healthy brain functions needed to properly manage emotions and behaviors. “This study suggests that high amounts of exercise can be at least one way to improve the situations brought by sleep troubles that lead to negative behaviors at home,” she says.

Barber acknowledges that finding time to work out and get a full night’s sleep can be difficult when

work pressure is rising, and that often, job stress can be directly related to sleep quality. But, she says, making the effort to burn some extra calories and blow off some steam can be worth it. It’s not only good for you, says T aylor, but it can benefit the people live with as well.

28. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?

A. Loved people at home.

B. Negative emotions.

C. Different work pressures.

D. More exercise and sleep.

29. What did researchers find in the past?

A. Mistreated employees are easily angry at family members.

B. People with negative emotions are not respected by loved ones.

C. Frustrated employees behave badly outside of work.

D. Employees who look down upon colleagues easily feel bad.

30. What is a finding of the new study?

A. Lack of sleep leads to work pressure.

B.

A complaining person gets tired easily. C.

Physical activity improves sleep quality.

D. A person with self-control can work well.

31. What may Barber suggest doing?

A. Reducing work pressure.

B. Sparing time to exercise.

C. Sleeping as much as possible.

D. T aking average amount of exercise.

D

Many years ago, people relied on the sun, the moon and stars to find their way around. Later, the compass was introduced. And now, we have satellite navigation(导航)(satnav) systems to guide us. A satnav system uses groups of satellites to show the user’s location. They send information to a receiver, such as a smartphone, to show us where we are.

The earliest built satnav system is the Global Positioning System (GPS), which belongs to the US. Then there is Russia’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), the European Union’s Galileo and China’s own satellite navigation system, BeiDou.

On Oct 14, 2017, an ARJ21-700 plane—China’s first home-made jet—equipped with the BeiDou navigation system, successfully completed a test flight. The results showed the performance of the system matches that of similar systems produced abroad, according to the Commercial Aircraft

Corporation of China.

Since its introduction in 2000, the BeiDou navigation system has seen increasing numbers of applications linked to everyday life, from shared bikes to farming.

When it comes to shared bikes, smart locks that support BeiDou chips offer more accurate positioning than others, making it easier to find a bike.

Farmers can use BeiDou-enabled tractors to plow ( 犁耕)the soil, and drones ( 无人机)using BeiDou to sow seeds, which can improve efficiency and make better use of resources. BeiDou’s farming applications have spread from Heilongjiang province to Beijing, Liaoning, Shanxi, Hubei and other regions across China.

With its many uses, the BeiDou navigation system is even playing a big role in the Belt and Road Initiative. “To date, the BeiDou system has covered most parts of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,”said Y ang Changfeng, chief designer of the BeiDou system.

Today, there are more than 20 BeiDou satellites above our heads, and China plans to launch up to eight more this year to expand the BeiDou network to better serve the Belt and Road Initiative. “S hips can use it to position themselves while sailing to European countries, no longer limited to Southeast Asian regions in the near future.” said Miao Qianjun, secretary-general of the navigation services association.

32. What is the purpose of the first two paragraphs?

A. To introduce some satnav systems.

B. To compare some satnave systems.

C. To show the benefits of satnav systems.

D. To show how navigation systems developed.

33. In what area has the BeiDou navigation system already been widely used?

A. Finding ways for people.

B. Bike-sharing.

C. Agriculture.

D. Computer networks.

34. What can we know about the BeiDou navigation system?

A. It was used successfully in jet planes.

B.

It is more powerful than other systems. C.

It wasn’t used in daily life until 2017.

D. Its network is formed by over 20 satellites.

35. What can be inferred about the BeiDou system?

A. It has covered most countries in the world.

B. It will mainly be used to serve the Belt and Road Initiative.

C. Its accuracy will be improved with the launch of more satellites.

D. It has led unmanned ships to sail to European countries.

第二节(共5 小题;每小题2分,满分10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选

项。

Exoplanets (外行星): The Hunt Is On

Today scientists believe that planets could outnumber the stars. For centuries, scientists and natural philosophers have indicated that stars in the night sky have planetary systems similar to our own solar system. 36 However, we have developed the technology to prove their existence only in the last few decades.

In 2015 NASA’s Kepler space telescope found its first Earth-sized planet in a “hab itable”(宜居的)zone. This is the distance from a star where surface temperatures of a planet wouldn’t be too hot or too cold for liquid water. So far, only a small part of our galaxy, the Milky W ay,has been explored.37 Because exoplanets are so far away and very close to stars, it is very difficult to see them directly.

38 For example, as a planet circles a star, it pulls on it and causes it to shake. As the star moves unsteadily, it changes the wavelength of the light we see. Measuring these slight changes is another method of discovering planets. 39 When an exoplanet moves between its star and us, it causes a small drop in the star’s brightness. By measuring this drop, NASA’S Kepler space telescope has discovered many exoplanets.

40 As time progresses and technology improves, who knows what else we may

find! A. It is one of the most productive methods.

B. Therefore, scientists use indirect methods.

C. These are just two examples of the methods scientists use.

D. Even so, scientists have confirmed more than 3,500 exoplanets.

E. Astronomers have received signals indicating the presence of a planet.

F.

Direct observation of the exoplanets is becoming increasingly possible.

G. The existence of extrasolar planets, or exoplanets, has long been discussed.
