Around four years ago, I received a call from the principal of our school as to the “Parents View” tal the net morning. He ased me to spea to the group. After the call, my whole body became feverish and panicy. The time from his call to the net morning seemed lie years. The whole night, I could not sleep with many ominous apprehensions in mind. what I was reading. That was the day when I realied my biggest weaness, Public Speaing.

After my speech, I met with the principal and eplained what happened to me. He told me that this happens to everyone. Even great speaers faced the same things when they started. He suggested that I come again net time.

Around one month later, I was invited to refer to a topic on Motivation. This time I was feeling comfortable. My speech was not only appreciated by the principal as well as the teachers, because I was able to get my idea across to them. They encouraged and praised my efforts.

After delivering successfully, I became more confident. I said to myself, “If I can spea in front of such a learned audience, lie the principal who educates others, I can now spea in front of others too.”

Cold weather during winter months may eep many people from leaving home and running in the open air.

However, a new study shows that the drop in temperature is a good reason to run. In fact, researchers say, running in cold weather helps improve one’s performance.

Many people say running in the winter can be difficult. Two reasons are the low temperatures and bitter winds. Yet many runners might find it easier than running in hot weather.

That could be because lower temperatures reduce stress on the body. When you run in cold weather, your heart rate and the body’s dehydration (脱水) levels are lower than in warmer conditions. The body needs less water on a cold day than in warm weather.

This information comes from sports scientists at St. Mary’s University in London. John Brewer is a professor of applied sport scienc e at St. Mary’s.

For this study, he and other researchers put a group of people into a room they called an “environmental chamber.” The researchers then recreated summer and winter weather conditions in the room. The test subjects were ased to run 10,000 meters under both conditions. Brewer says he and his team recorded biological measurements of the runners.

“We’ve got a group of subjects into the environmental chamber, we’ve changed the conditions to replicate the summer or winter and we’ve got them to ru n a 10m under both of those conditions and taen various measurements on each runner whilst they’ve been

completing their 10m.”

Brewer says every movement runners mae produces heat. He eplains that one way in which we lose heat is by sweating. The body loses heat through droplets of sweat. He says the body also loses heat by transporting the blood to the surface of the sin.

Spending money on time-saving services reduces stress and boosts(增进）happiness，according to a new research, but shocingly, few of us do it.

Whillans, a professor at HBS said, “ Buying time helps to protect us from the stress in our lives caused by time pressure, and the feeling that we don’ t have enough minutes

in the day to complete our tass. ’’

The effect was clearest in the Canadian eperiment, in which 60 woring adults were given $40 to spend in two different ways. One weeend, they were told to spend the money on a material purchase—a gift for themselves. The net weeend, they were instructed to spend the $40 on anything that saved them time，from paying the neighbor ’ s id to run errands (跑腿）to taing an Uber instead of a bus.

“On the day they made the time-saving purchase, they felt happier, in a better mood, and lower feelings of time stress than on the day they bought a material purchase，’’ said Whillans.

The biggest surprise to the researchers was how few people would spend money on time-saving services. When they ased 98 woring adults how they would spend a “windfall” of $40，only two percent named a purchase that would save them time.

“ One reason，’’ said Whillans, “ is that we’ re very bad at remembering how much we hate doing certain tass once the suffering has passed. That maes us less liely to tae active steps to avoid that overburdened feeling in the future. ” But another possible cause is good old-fashioned guilt. “If you feel guilty about getting someone to clean your house for you, then you might get less happiness from outsourcing (外包）that tas，” said Whillans，“ or you might just be less liely to spend your money in that way. ’’
