Forms of Business Ownership

I’m really interested in Business English. I think knowing something about Business English is necessary for me, and I believe what I have learned in this course will help me a lot in the future. These are the reasons why I chose to learn Business English.

After half a semester, I have learned much knowledge about business English, for example, forms of business ownership, bank, International Trade, price terms, business negotiation, etc. On the other hand, I learned some new ways of learning English; I learned how to use the Internet to broaden my horizons; and my listening skill also have been improved because the teacher always speak English in class. I’m major in finance, I think there are some relationships between finance and business English, knowing something about business English can help me to learn my major better.

Now let’s talk about forms of business ownership—the most interesting part I have learned in this course.

One of the first decisions that you will have to make as a business owner is how the company should be structured. This decision will have long-term implications. So it is very important to know something about the forms of business ownership.

One of the normal forms of business ownership is sole proprietorship. A sole proprietorship is a form of business that is owned by only one person. Sole proprietorships are typically small businesses.Forming a proprietorship is easy and inexpensive.The proprietor has direct control over how the business is run and can make decisions on the spot without the approval of anyone else. This control allows the owner to respond quickly to competitive business conditions or to the changes in the economy. All profits from a sole proprietorship belong to the owner. Profits do not have to be shared with anyone. But a sole proprietorship takes unlimited liability, which means if the business owes money, the business owner is responsible for the debts, and the owner may have to use personal assets to pay.

Another form of business ownership is partnership.A partnership is a business with two or more owners and is slightly more complex than a proprietorship. There are three basic types of partnership: general partnership, limited partnership, and joint venture.A general partnership involves a complete sharing in the management of a business. In a general partnership, each partner has unlimited liability for the debts of the business. A limited partnership has at least one general partner, who assumes unlimited liability, and at least one limited partner whose ability is limited to his or her investment in the business. Limited partners are barred from participating in the management of the business but share in the profits in accordance with the terms of the partnership agreement. A joint venture is a partnership established for a specific project or for a limited time. A partnership may have more money and credit to pay the rent, utilities, and other bills incurred by a business. This is one advantage of partnerships. Of course, partnerships also have many disadvantages, like the sole proprietorship,general partnerships also have to take unlimited liability. There might be many disagreement among the partners, and the may have problems when devise the profits.

The third form of business ownership is corporation.A corporation is a separate legal entity of body, created under the authority of the laws of a state. As a legal entity, a corporation has many of the rights, duties, and powers of a person. A corporation takes limited liability and has greater capital base. There are skilled management team and many professional managers in a corporation. But a corporation may lack of personal Interest and have credit limitations.

Another common form of business ownership is limited liability company (LLC). A limited liability company is a type of business ownership combining several features of corporation and partnership structures.To become publicly owned, LLC often launch shares of stock onto the open market.Due to the rapid rate of world economic development, companies adopt many competition strong ways to increase their strength in order to receive more profits, for example mergers, acquisition and franchise.

These are something I have learned about forms of business ownership. I think this knowledge would help me a lot if I do business in the future.

商务英语学习心得 1.商务英语的特点 与普通英语不同,商务英语强调的是商务沟通能力,其追求的目标是用最准确、最清晰的商务语言来与同事、老板以及客户进行最有效的沟通和交流。另外商务英语还涉及了很多西方的先进管理思想和工作方式,包括如何与外国员工合作以及他们之间的交流方式等等。基于此处,商务英语又包含了很多西方人的工作理念。 商务英语是英语的一种社会功能变体,是专门用途英语中的一个分支,是英语在商务场合中的应用。它涉及技术引进、对外贸易、招商引资、对外劳务承包与合同、国际合同、国际金融、涉外保险、国际旅游、海外投资、国际运输等等,人们从事这些活动所使用的英语统称为商务英语。商务英语源于普通英语,并以此为基础,完全具有普通英语的语言学特征,但同时它又是商务知识和普通英语的综合体,因而具有其内在的独特性。 2.商务英语的学习方法 2.1掌握商务英语语汇句型,熟悉商务英语篇章 学习商务英语首先要从英语语言基础入手,由于商务英语涉及到英语的听、说、读、写、译,商务英语学生必须在这些方面有一定的基础。提高听、说、读、写、译水平最根本的办法就是要掌握尽可能多的商务英语词汇、短语、句型和商务英语习惯表达法。商务英语学生都有一定的英语基础,但对有关商务词汇、短语、句型掌握得不多,对商务英语语篇不熟悉,因此,应该先从商务英语词汇等方面开始。 商务英语有别于普通英语。商务英语是在买卖商品或服务的商务活动中使用的各种正式与非正式文件,或者说,商务英语主要是商务应用文英语,说明论证性文章占绝大多数,如:商务信函、备忘录、商务报告、广告、合同协议等。因此,商务英语一般采用演绎或归纳等论证方法或因果、对比比较、过程分析、说服、陈列等说明方法来组织构建文章的篇章。 2.2学习培养商务英语的听说读写译能力 在学习掌握了英语基础知识和基本技能的基础上,我们必须学习掌握商务英语的听说读写译能力。这是我们毕业后就业谋职的本领。要学习掌握商务英语的听说读写译能力,我们应熟悉各种商务英语题材和体裁的口语书面文字,就商务英语这种专门用途英语进行大量的听说读写译的实践训练活动。通过商务英语的学习,我们必须掌握商务英语交流谈判的能力,熟悉并掌握商务英语应用文的写作技能和书面交流、谈判、交易的能力,学习并掌握商务英语口笔译能力。 2.3熟悉世界经济贸易组织

(第一篇) S.W.O.T. Analysis In modern strategic management and planning, SWOT analysis is a widely known diagnostic tool. SWOT analysis refers to understanding the strength and weakness of the competitors relative to oneself, and realising the opportunities and threats that the environment may impact on one's business. Interestingly, SWOT analysis was already advocated by Sun Tzu more than 2,000 years ago when he said : "Know your enemy, know yourself, and your victory will not be threatened. Know the weather, know the terrain, and your victory will be complete. In fact, "know your enemy, know yourself" is probably the most well-known phrase in Sun Tzu's Art of War. It is also the most cited phrase. Even Mao Tse-tung was known to say, " Know your enemy, know yourself; hundred battles, hundred won". Similarly, many Japanese samurai warriors in the past had quoted aspects of this particular famous phrase by Sun Tzu. In my lectures to executives around the world, I have often used this phrase to argue that what we now commonly called SWOT analysis is not a modern "invention" from the Western world. Rather, it originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. It is a pity that the Chinese have not been able to exploit the wisdom that underlies this saying by Sun Tzu. Let me explain. "Know your enemy, know yourself" is tantamount to knowing one's strengths and weaknesses relative to those whom we are fighting against (e.g. the competitors, in the case of business). Similarly, "Know the weather, know the terrain" is tantamount to knowing the opportunities and threats posed by the environment. They are the external or uncontrollable factors. Interestingly, in business we also have such external factors that affect the way we do things. For example, we often talk about the business climate (the weather) and the physical or infrastructural factors (the terrain), and how they can impact on the conduct of business. Discuss the Applications of the PIOC (People, Interest, Options, Criteria,)Principles inCollaborativeNegotiation Briefly There are many negotiations in the world, but the business negotiations take the mostly dominant role. In this situation, the final purpose of each side of the negotiating parties is attempted to meet the other’s interest as well as their own. There are many kinds of negotiations such as competitive style, accommodative style, collaborative style, vengeful style, compromising style, etc. and most commercial negotiations tend to collaborative style, because it is a win-win negotiation. There are four principles which are People, Interest, Options, and Criteria. It is indispensable when we are going to talk about the collaborative negotiation owing to the applications they exert. People Principle People Principle requires separating the people from the problem. Business is business, taking too many people emotions into negotiation is harmful. Especially in collaborative negotiations, good master of People Principle need follow the three techniques.(1)Establish an accurate perception. (2)Cultivate appropriate emotion. (3)Strive for better communication. Interest Principle Interest principle requires focusing on interests, not positions (interests always underlie positions). A position is what you say you want or must have. An interest is why you want what you want. Taking much attention to position will greatly reduce the interest, negotiators need to distinguish between interests and positions and focus on interests not positions. There are two methods negotiators should obey. (1)Identify the self-interests. (2)Discuss interests with the other party. There is an example. Jim takes a fancy to a second-hand car which has good quality in all aspects except the high price. When he comes to the host’s officer to negotiate aiming to cut down the price, he finds the host is the boss of the company and the office is luxurious. He becomes inexplicable nervous. Having a seat for a while, the host is busy with telephone talking about a cooperative projects amount of up to millions of money. The tension and fear in the hearts of Jim are further broadened. He sits on pins and needles for a long time but the host seems not to hang up the phone and seems to ignore the existence of Jim. A strong anger begin to spread in Jim’s mind, so he deliberately makes some sound and the host finally hang up the phone and apologize to him.However, what the host said next shames Jim. The host say “my time is tight, aren’t you tell me you come here to cut down the price”
