(2)中心思想类题目:体现全面性,避免以偏概全;

Sometimes you?ll hear people say that you can?t love others until you love yourself. Sometimes you?ll hear people say that you can?t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself. Either way, you?ve got to love yoursel f first and this can be tricky. Sure we all know that we?re the apple of our parents? eyes, and that our Grandmas think we?re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics, but sometimes it?s a lot harder to think such nice thou ghts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge, it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself.

Self-image is your own mind?s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think. Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about us. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.

The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don?t allow doubts to occur in it.

It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can?t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up

your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If y ou think you?re silly because you aren?t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you?re weak because you can?t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you?re dull because you don?t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remembe r, just because you think it doesn?t mean it?s true.

The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image. When you can pat (拍) yourself on the back, you?ll know you?re well on your way. Good luck!(2008年广东卷阅读理解B 篇)

49. What is the passage mainly about?A. How to prepare for your success.B. How to face challenges in your life.C. How to build a positive self-image. D. How to develop your good qualities.

Something in chocolate could be used to stop coughs and lead to more effective medicines, say UK researchers.

Their study found that theobromine, found in cocoa, was nearly a third more effective in stopping coughs than codeine, which was considered the best cough medicine at present.

The Imperial College London researchers who published their results online said the discover y could lead to more effective cough treatment. “While coughing is not necessarily harmful(有害的) it can have a major effect on the quality of life, and this discovery could be a huge step forward in treating this problem,” said Professor Peter Barnes.

Ten healthy volunteers(志愿者) were given theobromine, codeine or placebo, a pill that contains no medicine, during the experiment. Neither the volunteers nor the researchers knew who received which pill. The researchers then measured levels of capsaicin, which is used in research to cause coughing and as a sign of how well the medicine are stopping coughs.

The team found that, when the volunteers were given theobromine, the capsaicin need to produce a cough was around a third higher than in the placebo group. When they were given codeine they need only slightly higher levers of capsaicin to cause a cough compared with the placebo.

The researchers said that theobromine worked by keeping down a verve activity(神经活动), which cause coughing. They also found that unlike some standard cough treatments, theobromine caused no side effects such as sleepiness.(2008年全国卷阅读理解D篇)

As a human being you may have the choice of three basic attitudes towards life.

Y ou may approach life with the philosophy of the vegetable, in which case your life will consist in being born, eating, drinking, sleeping, mating, growing old, and dying.

The second basic attitude is to look at life as if it were a business. A great many so-called successful men and women believe that life is a business, and they arrange, their conducts and behavior accordingly. If you believe that life is a business yo ur first

question of life, naturally, is “What do I get out of it?”and your first reaction to any new experience is ,”How much is this worth to me?” In a word, based on this attitude, happiness becomes a matter of successful competition.

The great majority of human beings today look at life as if it were a business. Their basic philosophy is one of competition and efficiency.

The third attitude toward life is the approach of the artist. Here the basic philosophy is “What can I put into it?”, and the basic relation of the individual to his fellow-men is one of co-operation and common sense. This point of view has been proved by history; for history remembers best those who have contributed most richly to the interests of their fellow-men. The more we investigate and the more we learn about living the more we become convinced that the artistic attitude is the only one which is consistent with human happiness.

What?s the main idea of the passage?

A.Y ou may have three attitudes to life.

B.Y ou may approach life with the philosophy.

C.The attitude toward life is the approach of the artist.

D.Happiness becomes a matter of successful competition.

As we proceed through life, we are faced with many types of situations. Each situation required us to behave in different ways. We may be faced with a large project which, in order to be accomplished efficiently, demands the cooperation of each person. In this instance, we must be flexible, supportive, and be willing to compromise. Each person is only a small part of a much large machine.

Being competitive also plays a role in life. The desire to succeed and do better than others inspires us to work harder. If there was no competition a sports meet would never be exciting and successful; we could never have champions.

To succeed in life, we must learn to be both cooperative and competitive. The most important thing to learn in life is to know when to be cooperative and when to be competitive.

Which of the following can best summarize Paragraph 1?

A.We must learn when to be cooperative and when to be competitive.

B.To succeed in life, we must learn cooperation.

C.Each person is only a small part of a much large machine.

D.Being competitive also plays a role in life.

Thinking is something you choose to do as a fish choose to live in water. To be human is to think. But thinking may come naturally without you knowing how you do it. Thinking about thinking is the key to critical(判断性的) thinking.

When you think critically, you take control of you thinking processes. Otherwise you might be controlled by the ideas of others. Indeed, critical thinking is at the heart of education.

The word “critical”here has a special meaning. It does not mean taking one

view against another view, as when someone criticizes another person for doing something wrong. The nature of the critical thinking is thinking beyond the easily seen ----- beyond the pictures on TV, the untrue reports in the newspapers, and the faulty reasoning.

Critical thinking is an attitude as much as an activity. If you are curious about life and desire to dig deeper into it, you are a critical thinker. If you find pleasure in deep thinking about different ideas, characters , and facts, you are a critical thinker.

Activities of the mind are processes of deep and careful consideration. They take time, and do not go hand in hand with the fast speed in today?s world: fast foods, instant coffee, and self-developing film. If you are among the people who believe that speed is a measure of intelligence, you may learn something new from a story about Albert Einstein. The first time Banish Hoffman, a scientist, was to discuss his work with Albert Einstein, Hoffman was too nervous to speak.

But Einstein immediately put Coffman at ease by saying,”Please go slowly. I don?t understand things quickly.”

What would be the best title of the passage?

A. Thinking and Critical Thinking

B. Thinking is Natural and Human

C. Understanding Critical Thinking

D. Thinking Fast Means Intelligence

(1)Now, it?s important for the managers in a company to understand what their customers want if they are going to develop effective marketing strategies (策略). There are various ways of doing this. One way at supermarkets, for example, is to int erview customers while they?re doing their shopping. They can be asked what they prefer to buy and then the results of the research can be studied. This provides information on which to base future marketing strategies.

It?s also quite normal for top mana gers from department stores to spend a day or two each month visiting stores and mixing freely with the public, as if they were ordinary customers, to get an idea of how customers act.

Another way to get information from customers is to give them something…it also allows the managers to get a feel for where to attract customers and which age-groups to attract.

Before 1066, in the land we call Great Britain lived peoples belonging to two major language groups…

But this state of affairs did not last. In 1066 the Norman led by William defeated the Saxons and began their rule over England, for about a century, French became the official language of English while Old English became the language of peasants. As a result, English words of politics and law come from French rather than German. In

some cases, modern English even shows a distinction between upper-class French and lower-class Anglo--Saxon in its words…

When Americans visit Europe for the first time, they usually find Germany more “foreign” than France because the German they see on signs and advertisements seems much more different from English than French does. Recite and repeat in conversation.

When you hear a person?s name, repeat it. Immediately say it to yourself several times without moving your lips.

Ask the other person to recite and repeat.

After you?ve been introduced to someone, ask that person to spell the name mad pronounce it correctly for you.

Admit you don?t know.

Most of people will feel sympathy if you say, “I?m working to remember names better. Y ours is right on the tip of my tongue. What is it again?”

Limit the number of new names you learn at one time.

When meeting a group of people, concentrate on remembering just two or three names. Free yourself from remembering every one. Another way is to limit yourself to

learning just first names. Last names can come later.

(7) [2009福建卷]We already know the fastest, least expensive way to slow climate change: Use less energy. With a little effort, and not much money, most of us could reduce our energy diets by 25 percent or more—doing the Earth a favor while also

helping our wallets.

…Scientists have reported recently that the w orld is heating up even faster than predicted only a few years ago, and that the consequences could be severe if we don?t keep reducing emissions(排放)of carbon dioxide(CO2)and other greenhouse gases that are trapping heat in our atmosphere.

We decided to try an experiment. For one month we recorded our personal emissions of CO2. . We wanted to see how much we could cut back, so we went on a strict diet. The average US household(家庭) produces about 150 pounds of CO2 a day by doing common-place things like turning on air-conditioning or driving cars. That?s more than twice the European average and almost five times the global average, mostly because Americans drive more and have bigger houses. But how much should we try to reduce?

… “To stay below that point, we need to reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent,” he said.

Good advice, I thought. We?d gotten so used to keeping our air-conditioning going around the clock. I?d almost forgotten the windows even opened. We s hould not let this happen again. It?s time for us to change our habits if necessary.

We take jobs to stay alive and provide homes for our families always making ourselves believe that this style of life is merely a temporary state of affairs along the road to what we really want to do. Then, at 60 or 65, we are suddenly presented with a clock and several grandchildren and we look back and realize that all those years waiting for Real Life to come along were in fact real life.

In America they have a saying much laughed at by the English:“Have a nice day” they speak slowly and seriously in their shops, hotels and sandwich bars. I think it is a

wonderful phrase, reminding us, in effect, to enjoy the moment: to value this very day. How often do we say to ourselves, “I?ll take up horse-riding (or golf or sailing) as soon as I get a higher position,” only to do none of those things when I do get the higher position…

Colouring, for example, varies according to what the producers are trying to sell. Health foods are packaged in greens, yellows or browns because we think of these as healthy colours. Ice cream packets are often blue and expensive goods, like chocolates, are gold or silver.

The size of a product can attract a shopper. But quite often a bottle doesn?t contain as much as it appears to.

It is believed that the better-known companies spend, on average, 70 per cent of the total cost of the product itself on packaging!

Talk and silence may also be different in some cultures. I once made a speech in

Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are unnecessary.

13 Have you ever dreamed of visiting a planet in the Milky Way (银河系)? While the trip sounds exciting, it would take years and years to reach your destination. So in the future, bedtime for astronauts may be more than a few hours of regular shut eye. They would have to sleep for years.

European researchers are now conducting hibernation experiments. The study may help them understand whether humans could ever sleep through the years it would take for a spaceflight to distant planets. "If there was an effective technology, it could make deep space travel a reality," said Mark Ayre of the European Space Agency last month.

What seems like a science fiction is not completely unlikely. Researchers have been able to use chemicals to put living cells into a sleep like state where they don?t age. They have now moved on to the small, non hibernating mammals (哺乳动物) like rats.

A major challenge is the fact that cells can be very simple systems, whereas body organs are far more complex. "It?s like moving from a simpl e Apple computer to a supercomputer," said Marco Biggiogera, a hibernation researcher at Italy?s University of Pavia. Just like bears and frogs, the hibernation of human beings would cause a person?s metabolism (新陈代谢) to lower so they would need less energy.

Medical research, however, is just half of a spaceflight hibernation system. There is a challenge of designing a suitable protective shelter. Such a shelter would provide the proper environment for hibernation, such as the proper temperature. It would a lso have to monitor (监控) life functions and serve the physiological needs of the hibernator.

According to Ayre, the six person Human Outer Planets Exploration Mission (使命) to Jupiter?s moon (木星的卫星) Callisto, could be an opportunity to use human hibernation. The mission aims to send six persons on a five year flight to Callisto, where they will spend 30 days, in 2045.

选项B为文中的“The first attitude”, 选项C为文中的“The third attitude”, 选项D只是“the second attitude”的其中一个要点。

找出本段的过渡词语In this instance(在这种情况下),推断作者的观点:“we must be flexible, supportive, and be willing to compromise.”

4. C

5.C

A D A (4)A。 7)A。

高考复习——阅读理解之主旨大意题 (一) With the development of science and technology, new inventions, especially new electronic products, have made people's lives easy and convenient. But as the saying puts: A coin has two sides. One day, I was walking in the park with a friend and his cell phone rang, interrupting our conversation. There we were, walking and talking on a beautiful sunny day and…I became invisible, absent from the conversation. The telephone used to connect you to the absent. Now it makes people sitting next to you feel absent. Why is it that the more connected we get, the more disconnected I feel? Every advance in communications technology is a tragedy to the closeness of human interaction. With email and instant messaging over the Internet, we can now communicate without seeing or talking to one another. With voice mail, you can conduct entire conversations without ever reaching anyone. If my mom has a question, I just leave the answer on her machine. As almost every contact we can imagine between human beings gets automated, the alienation(疏远) index goes up. You can't even call a person to get the phone number of another person any more. Directory assistance is almost always fully automated. Pumping petrol at the station? Why say good morning to the attendant when you can swipe(刷)your credit card at the pump and save yourself the bother of human contact? Making a deposit at the bank? Why talk to a teller who might live in the neighborhood when you can just insert your card into ATM? Pretty soon you won't have the burden of making eye contact at the grocery shop. Some supermarket chains are using a self-scanner so you can check yourself out, avoiding those check-out people who look at you and ask how you are doing. I am not against modern technology. I own a cell phone, an ATM card, a voice mail system, and an email account. Giving them up isn't wise…they're a great help to us. It's some of their possible consequences that make me feel uneasy. More and more, I find myself hiding behind e-mail to do a job meant for conversation. Or being relieved that voice mail picked up a call because I didn't really have time to talk. The communications industry devoted to helping me keep in touch is making me lonelier. So I've put myself on technology restriction: no instant messaging, with people who live near me,no cell phoning in the presence of friends, no letting the voice mail pick up when I'm at home. (1)Which of the following would be the best title of the passage? A. The Advance of Communications Technology B. The Consequences of Modern Technology C. The Process of Communications Revolution D. The Automation of Modern Communications (2)Paragraphs 5 to 7 are listed as examples, which show that the use of modern communications is________. A. encouraging B. disappointing C. satisfying D. embarrassing (3)The passage implies that ____________. A. modern technology is bridging the people B. modern technology is separating the people
