A Practical Introduction to English Teaching Methodology Lesson plan

Background information:

Students: 45 students from No.8 middle school in Yuxi, Grade 2, level 4.

Lesson duration: 45 minutes.

Teaching objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1.Talk about problems in English.

2.Ask and answer questions for some problems what they will face.

3.Know and use some know words to express their ideas.

4.Give advice to others.

5.Learn to be a good listener in daily life and be a good friend.

Teaching contents:

1.V ocabulary of problems.

2.Sentences.

A: What is wrong? B: My clothes are out of style.

A: What is the matter? B: I argued with my best friend.

A: What should I do? B: You could write him a letter.

A: What should he do? B: Maybe he should say sorry.

A: What should they do? B: They should talk about their problems.

Teaching aids:

Tapes, Blackboard, Pictures, PPT.

Type of the lesson: vocabulary and listening.

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Review (10mins)

a) Students talk about some words what we have learned last week. (Swimming,

bored, less work, doctor)

b) Students open the textbook and turn to page 10, look at the pictures in the textbook think about the topic for this unit and finish the exercises in 1a according to their knowledge.

c) Students volunteer to present their ideas about how to solve the problems with others in our class.

d) Teacher summarizes, and writes the new words on board.

Step2. Learn the new words (15mins)

a) Turn to page 104 to learn the new words and expressions in unit2.

b) Students learn to read the words in right pronunciation.

c) Students learn the usage of the new words in unit2.

d) Students read after the types.

e) Students identify the parts of speech.

Step3. Listening practice (7mins)

a) Listen and circle the problems you hear in activity 1a.

b) Listen. Peter’s friend is giving him advice. Circle the word “could” or “should”.

c) Listen again. Why doesn’t Peter like his friend’s advice? Draw lines to match the advice with the reasons.

d) Think and organize the sentences structure.

Step4. Group-work (8mins)

a) Work in groups to find the problems and give some suggestions to each other according to their own life. Try to talk about how to keep a balance emotion.

b)To imitate the samples in 1c, but not serious, you can have your own idea and express in different ways.

c) Students volunteer to share their ideas after working in groups.

d) Teacher guides to summarize.

Step5. More practices (5mins)

a) Role plays the conversation with your partner.

b) Use PPT to show some advice to solve the bad emotion and how to keep a good emotion.

Optional activities and homework

Optional activities: To talk more about how to keep a balance emotion. Homework: Write a short paragraph use the new sentences structure in this class and

hand in next class.

Reflection:From this class, I found students need more practices time in English and I need arrange the class time more reasonable.

Explanations for lesson plan

At the beginning of the lesson plan, I introduce background information about the students, teaching objectives, teaching contents and teaching aids. It’s very important for students and audiences know the main idea about this lesson.

For example, background information we can easy to find grade 2 students in middle school need to have their own aim about study, have confidence in English study and read or understand short story and so on. Then decide the teaching objectives according to their level and knowledge. Last, make teaching contents in details with the help of teaching aids to control the whole class.

Second teaching procedures step1to review some things what we have taught last class it’s helpful for students to learn to summarize. At this step we also guide students to find what we are going to learn and what the topic for this class. Step2 learn the new words I design it according to the program objective of English, language knowledge (National English Curriculum, 2001) students need to grasp phonetics, functions of words. This part is very important for our students to catch and understand what the teacher teaches. Step3 listen practice, there are three major purposes in listening. The first is for social reasons, like when we have casual conversation with friends or acquaintances to maintain or build social relationships. The second is to obtain and exchange information.

The second is more difficult, according to Anderson and Lynch (1988:7-8), and needs more emphasis in the language classroom, especially at intermediate and advanced levels. For this part there are more individual works in order to make sure every student can join in the class and it pays more attention on listen process give students more time to think, so that they can combine listening with other skills. Step4 group work in order to increase the amount of students talk, increase varieties in a lesson, change the pace of the lesson, transfers the spotlight from teachers to students, allow for independent language use, create more learning opportunities and develop students’ team spirit and so on. After finish this step teacher guide to summarize then start to Step5 more practice pair work in this part students can share their ideas with partner and they also can move around the class and exchange the idea with others. Create a more relaxed and friendly climate for learning. Step6optional activities because nowadays we always suffer different pressure from other it is very important for us to adjust our attitude to the life, homework needs relevant to the lesson, observable and assessable.

Last reflection, it is necessary and useful for a teacher to do reflection. From reflection you must find some shortages and advantages of yourself and improve it by yourself.

As we all know proper lesson planning is essential for both novice and experienced teachers. A good lesson plan includes aim, variety, and flexibility, learn ability and linkage. Wang (2003) we need to make our lesson plan with

clear aims in mind, the rest of the lesson planning will be based on how such aims are going to be achieved. Variety means design many different activities and give students more selections create relaxed class atmosphere. The teaching process need to be flexible not just obey one way to finish the whole class. Learnability means we need to design our lesson plan according to their level and ability. Linkage means design the lesson plan relevant to each step. Follow the basic requirement and prepare more, you must do a good job by yourself.

“2015年全国职业院校技能大赛”中职组 职业英语技能赛项规程 一、赛项名称 职业英语技能 二、竞赛目的 本赛项致力于为全国中职学生及英语教师创建一个交流学习、拓展视野、展示才华的平台,推动中职英语教学模式和人才培养方式的转变,展现中职学校英语教学改革成果,着力于中职学生创新能力、思辨能力、沟通能力及职业能力的综合培养,服务于中职英语教学改革的发展需求。 三、竞赛方式与内容 (一)竞赛方式 本赛项为团体赛,分服务类专业组和其他类专业组两个组别(专业名录见附件)。参赛队以院校为单位,不得跨校组队;一支参赛队仅可参加一个组别的比赛。每支参赛队由2名选手和1名指导教师组成。参赛选手须为2014年在籍中职学生。 (二)竞赛内容 本次竞赛内容分为在线测评、情境交流、职场应用、职业风采四个环节。 1.在线测评 选手上机操作,使用职业英语能力测试系统,在线测评通用职业场景下的英语综合语言应用能力。每支参赛队2名选手卷面成绩的平均分乘以相应系数为此环节最终成绩。本环节限时1小时,满分20分。 2.情境交流

选手以2人团队为单位参加此环节竞赛。选手从五组图片中抽取一组,图片呈现一个工作任务或事件,内容是与选手生活或将来工作紧密相关的场景。经过30分钟的准备后,一名选手在90秒之内用英语对图片内容做出描述并阐释个人见解,另一名选手与外籍裁判就图片主题及描述内容进行90秒的互动问答。本环节满分30分。 3.职场应用 选手以2人团队为单位完成一个通用职业场景中的工作任务。竞赛过程分为两个阶段:第一阶段在备赛室进行,选手抽取到任务后,在30分钟内通过分工协作完成该任务;第二阶段在赛场内进行,一名选手在3分钟内向裁判陈述任务完成情况,另一名选手在2分钟内回答裁判就任务主题及完成情况提出的相关问题。整个过程要求使用英语沟通交流。本环节满分30分。 4.职业风采 选手以2人团队为单位表演节目,形式不限。要求使用英语,表演内容与所学专业或将来的职业相结合,能充分体现职业学校学生的英语风采和青春活力,节目须有原创性。每队可以有1-2名助演嘉宾,但裁判只依据选手的表现打分。本环节限时3-5分钟,满分20分。 四、竞赛规则 1.竞赛期间的每个环节,参赛选手须听从工作人员安排,不得自行离开规定的场地。 2.在线测评环节参赛选手需按规定时间提前进入赛场并调试设备;情境交流、职场应用和职业风采三个环节,参赛队需按规定时间进入候赛室。 3.职业风采环节所需道具(包括音频、视频文件)由选手自行准备,若有需要搬动的道具,须赛前报知组委会,并按照组委会的规定
