The moving story was related to an expedition guide Jerry Shepard and eight loyal dogs, they were Max, Maya, Shortly, Shadow, Truman, Dewey, Buck and Old Jack. The man and the dogs are heroes who worked in Antarctica for American.

Dr. Davis McClarent was a scientist who went to Mt. Melbourme to find a matelote; he believed that the ice floe might give them the first matelote from the planet Mercury. Since the poor ice, they had to go to Mt. Melbourne with dogs. Certainly, Jerry was his guide. It would be a hard trip, but Jerry could do it, he was an experienced guide. Everything were ready, they got up. The trip was safe at first, but only after a few peaceful minutes, troubles came. Dr. Davis almost into the ice hole successfully. The problem was just begun. Jerry copied that there were two massive low pressure systems moving south. The major storm coming in, Mactown wanted them to come back right away. But Dr. Davis persuaded Jerry to give him a little time to find the matelote; they decided to come back the next morning. Dr. Davis found the matelote finally. Then, on their way to the base, Dr. Davis fell in the ice hole which were full of cold water and got his leg broken. It was Maya who saved him with a rope. Their aim was to go back, and the only hope was the eight dogs. They did a good job! They were home at last. Dr. Davis’s got a broken leg, Jerry’s fingers could be stain three frostbite. They needed

proper medical equipment. They would pull of out this base at once.

For the limited of the plane space, the dogs couldn’t aboard, but the pilot Katie and NSF science director Andy promised to fly back to cath the dogs. Jerry agreed. Several days cure of medicine, the two patients got better. Jerry knew that nobody flied back to save the dogs; the excuse was the bad weather. He said he shall lower his expectations for Katie; it really hurt Katie, who was his lover deep in heart. Jerry worried about his dogs, people tightened their collars so they wouldn’t get loose, if this did happen, the dogs would certainly die. The captain couldn’t agree to give him a plane to save his dogs, for they met the biggest Antarctic storm in 25 years. He couldn’t sleep at night, he had been to NSF, agencies, foundations and TV networks to convince them to give a hand, he had though up everything to raise money, but it was too long, he couldn’t wait, his dogs couldn’t wait, and now, the dogs had lives on their own for 175 days. He didn’t have the energy to le himself off the hook. The ocean has the mind of its own, but Jerry hasn’t. Katie, Dr. Davis and Coop accompanied him and overcame all kinds of problems to save the dogs. They got it! These eight dogs suffered several months, they created a good team, they loved their guys, they drew a marvelous picture about love, they were not dogs, and they were our friends. Old Jack just waited there, he died and Dewey died, either. The dogs were the angels in our mind; their struggle for life in these days on their own showed how strong

they were.
