School’s out. It’s been a long day, so you head home to relax. You’re greeted by a friend who’s happy to see you, listens to you talk about recess, tells you a new joke, helps you put away your school stuff(东西),and reminds you to text your cousin happy birthday. And that’s before he helps you with your homework.

This is your future, and it all starts with a knee high robot called NAO (pronounced NOW). It kind of looks 1ike you, walks and dances, listens and talks, and even learns and thinks for itself. Its creators predict that the state of the art robot could be a companion at home by the year 2040.

This $16,000 robot recognizes human facial features, so it knows who you are. NAO can even express emotions. It represents the new generation of “autonomous” or self guided robots. These robots can sense, think, and act. Other robots might do two out of the three. For example, a robot might sense things using cameras and think using computers, but with no arms, wheels, or claws, it can’t act. Other robots can move and sense things, but can’t think for themselves. These aren’t self guided robots. But NAO can do it all.

“You can program your computer to give NAO what could be called personality,” says Natanel Dukan of Aldebaran Robotics, the French company that built NAO. The robot has cute, childlike features—a high voice, small body, big eyes, and a large head. “There ar e things that are known to have an emotional appeal to people,” robot expert Dan Kara says, “NAO’s friendly design helps in one of NAO’s main functions—to teach people how useful personal robots can be. Someday it may help you pass a test!”

31. What do we know about NAO from the first two paragraphs?

A. It is as tall as humans.

B. It is highly intelligent.

C. It is widely used in schools now.

D. It is designed to help with the housework.

B. introduce a new kind of robot

C. do an experiment about robots

D. compare different kinds of robots

As I drive about the Sois in rural Thailand, I often catch little glimpses of things that barely register on the mind as the scenery flies by. I wish that I had the time to stop and investigate further as I’m driving by, but time is more valuable than all the money in the world. I wish I had more.

I once had a guy wave to me as I passed him. He yelled out something, almost in greeting, as if he knew me. I wonder if we knew each other once, and if he recognized my soul and just had to yell: hello. I wish I had stopped and said hello too.

I saw two young girls, dressed in school uniforms. They were holding hands, talking, walking down the road, and teasing each other as they walked along. As I passed, the one closest to the truck looked up. She was close enough to touch almost. Her smiling face, her clear eyes and golden smooth skin are there in my mind’s eye now. I can see her as if she were standing n ext to me. Once in a while her face jus pops into my head. Why? Why is she still there?

I stopped at a road stop on a corner one time. An old lady standing by the roadside walked over to the truck and put her hand on my arm and smiled at me. Her palm was so cool in such hot weather. She said something in Thai with a smile and walked away. Who was she? Why did I just sit there and let her touch me? Her cool touch almost seemed familiar; like my long dead grandmother’s relaxing cool touch remembered from when I was just a little boy.

I need more time. I need to stop the truck more often, and just say hello. Things glimpsed along the road are often far more interesting and wonderful than that which seems to consume our daily lives. Slow down. Stop the truck. Get out, and say hello.

35. What kind of life does the author normally lead?

A. Busy.

C. Meaningless.

A. his anger for being bothered

B. his love of his own daughter

C. his interest in observing people

D. the deep impression they left on him

37. Why does the author compare the old lady with his grandmother?

A. The old lady looked like his grandmother.

B. He suggests the old lady had very cold hands.

C. He suggests the old lady’s touch was comforting.

D. The old lady reminded him of his entire childhood.

38. What is the purpose of the author to write the passage?

A. To express his poverty.

B. To describe his easy life.

C. To show his wish to communicate.

D. To suggest enjoying the scenery outside.

You forgot to set your wake-up alarm. As you slowly come to realize that you’re going to be extremely late for school or work, you begin to get into a panic. 39 So you leave home stressed, hungry and thirsty. If you often start your day in such a

stressed state, then you’ll be sure to benefit from the suggestions below.

Wake up on time. Waking up on time (or even early) is necessary to start your day positively. 40 And you won’t need to rush around at the last minute.

Make your bed. Making your bed is probably the last thing you think about when you are prepared in the morning. This habit may be okay for students, but if you want to increase your motivation and productivity, you should definitely make your bed. 41 Take a 10-minute walk in the morning. If you have a dog, then this will be an easy task for you. However, even if you don’t own a dog, why not try walking for 10 minutes outside every morning? 42

43 Organized people tend to do this work. It helps them keep track of what needs doing at home, work and beyond. The morning time is perfect for checking your to-do list. You may also find that you can delete some items that you completed the previous day.

A. Check your to-do list.

B. There’s no time for any food or drink.

C. Write down things you’re grateful for.

D. Fresh air and exercise will make you feel more energetic.

E. It will give you space and time to complete your morning routine.

F. You’ll be rewarded by a tidy room, and a feeling of self-satisfaction.

高中英语 每日一题(第03周)每周一测试题(含解析)新人教版必修2

每周一测 I. 阅读理解 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 A The United States is a sports-loving nation. Sports in America take various forms: organized competitive struggles, athletic games, hunting and fishing. Most sports are seasonal, so that what is happening in sports depends upon the time of year. Baseball is the most popular sport in the US. It is played throughout the spring and summer, and professional baseball teams play well into the fall. Football is the most popular sport in the fall. The game originated as a college sport more than 75 years ago. It’s not the same as European football or soccer. In American football there are 11 players as well on each team, and they are dressed in padded uniforms and helmets because the game is rough and injuries are likely to occur. It is still played by almost every college and university in the country. Basketball is the winner sport in American schools and colleges. Like football, basketball originated in the US. Many Americans prefer it to football because it is played indoors throughout the winter and because it is a faster game. And the famous NBA games are considered the best of this game. Other sports attracting a great many people include wrestling, boxing and horse-racing. Although horse-racing fans call themsel ves sportsmen, the exactness of the term is questionable, as only the jockeys who ride the horses in the races can be considered athletes. The so-called sportsmen are the spectators, who do not come primarily to see the horse-racing, but to bet upon the ou tcome of each race. Gambling is the attraction of horse-racing. 1. Baseball is so popular in America that some professional teams play it until ____________. A. spring B. summer C. fall D. winter

My name is Li Hua, a student from XinShiJi Senior High School. With graduation drawing near, I’m desperate for the opport unity to go to Hongkong University. Therefore, I’m writing to consult you about some necessary information. To begin with, obsessed with Environmental Science, I wonder what I’m supposed to do if I want to study the relevant majors. Besides, as many courses are taught in English in Hong Kong, is it necessary for me to take some English tests? Furthermore, I wonder if it is possible for you to tell me something about accommodation. For example, where will I live in Hong Kong, on campus or outside? Finally, could you provide me with more det ails about the living costs, the fees as well as the scholarships? Thank you for your time and attention. I’m looking forward to your early reply.
