It is an undeniable fact that food serves as the most important part in human’s life, just as the old Chinese proverb goes food is the first necessity of people. However, in recent years, food safety scandals have entered media spotlight and aroused public concern in China. The population of China is increasing along with the morality of Chine se businessmen “rising”. Those businessmen are so worried about the population problem that they produce harmful or poisonous food to control the population explosion.

Food safety problems are ubiquitous in China. In 2005, Sudan red 1, an industrial red dye banned as a food colorant in most countries because it is carcinogenic, was found in many food products including five kinds of food of KFC. In 2008, there was a shocking event that melamine-laced milk products killed at least six infants and sickened 300,000 children across the country. It was reported that

melamine is a substance used in fertilizers and plastics. When added to food products it will pretend to increase their protein content during food quality tests.

This substance will cause permanent damage to kidneys if consumed in large quantities. Recent 2 to 3 years, there have been reports of pork adulterated with clenbuterol, a drug that can cause heart problems; rice contaminated with cadmium, a metal discharged by smelters; soy sauce laced with arsenic; noodles mixed with ink and wax; bean sprouts contaminated with an animal antibiotic;

and eggs induced with chemicals, gelatin and paraffin among other adulterated food products. (Cesar Chelala)

Once hearing these events, I doubted whether they were true or not. I felt they were unbelievable. But later I had to give up to the reality. The credibility of food safety is bordering on collapse with continuous food safety problems.

As the opening and reform policy was implemented in China in 1978, China stepped into a new age of market economy, after which Chinese economy has been developing rapidly and living standard of Chinese rising without stopping. I can’t help wondering the reason why this phenomenon exists and occurs frequently in China? Reasons can be clarified into following three aspects.

Firstly, food producers are too interest-orientated. Human beings are born selfish and greedy. T he acceleration of economy inspires and enlarges people’s quest and thirst for profits. The lure of making easy money is too tempting for many food producers. For example, numerous food producers have made a great fortune by using additives without considering the severe effects that additives have on consumers when producing food. To some extent, I believe, they have lost their conscience and the bottom line of morality due to the excessive obsession with profits. As a result,

they can’t tell from right from wrong properly and pursue interests and profits blindly.

Secondly, the awareness of food safety is severely low and the public are short of scientific food safety knowledge. For example, some producers who use additives or other harmful substance do not know the damage these things will do to consumers. Meanwhile, most consumers don’t pay much attention to the ingredients of food products. However, with technology and science developing, food products always contain some new ingredients people have never heard them before. As a result, even if some careful consumers take time to read the ingredient column, oftentimes they don’t know whether some ingredient is harmful or not. What’s worse, some producers have omitted the harmful ingredients on the ingredient column. There was a real case in which the producer was put into prison due to a lack of food safety knowledge happening in April 28th 2011:

A one-year-old girl died after eating a fried chicken drumstick her father bought

from a street vendor in Fenzhuang village, Fengtai district, in Beijing. The diagnosis of the hospital is that the girl was poisoned by nitrites. The owner of the stand might have no idea what nitrites are, yet many stands like his use them when frying dough sticks and noodles. So why was it only his fried chicken that poisoned a person? Logically, the owner of the stand is probably a farmer who has come to the city to give his wife and child a better life. Subjectively, the owner is not likely to wish harm against others, because once there is trouble, his whole family would suffer. The only possible explanation is: He has little knowledge of food safety, which turns him from an innocent citizen to a criminal.

This might be harsh, but food stalls like that are everywhere, each tainted with trace amounts of "poison." (Global Times)

In this accident, the girl who died of nitrites is direct victim. Generally, we take side with the girl and cry and fight for her. In contrast, we criticize and curse the owner of the stand. But actually, he is also a victim, one indirect victim of ignorance of food safety knowledge.

Finally, the government and the regulator in charge of food didn’t play a responsible and effective role in oversight of food produce. The training of basic food safety knowledge and the supervision of the process of producing food were not done well. The government and the regulator always took measures to tackle food safety problems after accidents had happened in a hurry under the pressure from public opinion.

Food safety problems will cause more severe consequences if nothing is to be done with it. So measures should be taken to prevent food safety problems happening. As one of Chinese, a person feeding on food, a consumer, I sincerely propose following suggestions to change the situation of China’s present food safety situation.

Firstly, food safety law should be improved to increase the importance and seriousness of food safety. People who violate the food safety law will be punished severely. For example, food producers using deadly chemicals should be sentenced to death immediately instead of being arrested and then fined a lot to pay for the damage. There is some progress our government has made in food safety regulations but some of which I think are not severe enough. The problem can be solved with money is not a problem. For those food producers, what they are least lacking in is money while what they are most concerned about are their lives. So they are very afraid that they have to use their money in hell one day. So if they know producing harmful food is at the risk of their lives, normally, no producers will do it continuously.

Secondly, labels on food products should be more genuine and detailed. They should include not only price, birth place, date, shelf life, some common ingredients but also the process, special ingredients or additives. Only if the labels are made detailed and genuine, consumers will have the chance to read the real information of the products they buy. Labels really can play an important role for consumers to know the products they purchase. After all, they can’t go to factories to see how the food products they buy are processed. So in this way, people can learn the products well from the clear and specific labels.

Finally, the government should promote scientific food safety knowledge. For example, workers in food production industry must be trained before taking the job; government can provide consumers free but compulsory food safety knowledge classes to reach the level where they can distinguish between genuinely healthy food products and these contaminated ones. Of course, the consumers should increase their awareness of food safety knowledge actively. When they purchase food, they should be particularly concerned about the ingredients of the food to make sure the food is not harmful to their health.

In this globalization world, food safety issue is no longer a problem only for Chinese. So confronting the food safety issue, all Chinese, even every person in the whole world, should take an effort to prevent food safety problems from happening. References:

To: College of Business Administration Dean’s Office From: Zihao Fu Subject: A Proposal for setting up a food truck beside the new business building Introduction As the construction began in September, the new business building is finally coming to us. Taking up 140,00 square feet of space the building will have one 250-person lecture hall, three tiered 80-person classrooms, thirteen 50-person classrooms, three 50-station computer labs and many other features. This is definitely exciting for students, as they will be enjoying the business education in a fresh environment with brand new facilities. Faculties should also be pleased with bigger and brighter offices. The new business building can also work as an attraction that appeals to potential future K-State students. Since this is still a very early stage of the construction, it is still feasible for us to add more practical features to the building to better dealing with potential problems. Meanwhile the proposal can also increase the overall attractiveness of College of Business. Problem Description In the blueprint of the new business building we could see that a coffee shop is included. However, having only one coffee shop may not be sufficient. At a round 11 o’clock to 1 o’clock is the “peak hours” f or lunch. Long-winded lines are very common in Union’ food court, Einstein Bros Bagels as well as Derby Dining Center. It is hard to imagine a coffee shop with limited capacity can serve the whole business school, which has the biggest amount of undergraduate students in the university, efficiently. Taking a close look at the campus map I could not help but notice that the new business building is located at the Southeast side of the campus and seems to be alienated from other major buildings. With only one dining facility near the building can result in students who are taking classes at noon in the building has very limited choice for lunch. In addition, they will have to walk a long way to other dining facilities around the campus. Some other students might decide not to have lunch due to the intense schedule and the tiring long way. However, the lacking of essential nutrition and energy intake can cause really negative impact on students’ brain function. The lacking of concentration and reduce students’ attention in class, which ultimately affects their academic performance. Hence, I am proposing a solution to the problem.

Introduction This proposal sets out to examine options for the successful globalization of our ‘Borders’ brand. The initial market under consideration is Continental Europe. For the purposes of this proposal, we will be considering three aspects of the brand, namely our logo, the ‘Borders’ concept and finally, the product itself, ‘Borders’ wellington boots. Findings The following points summarise our key findings. ?It was found that our existing logo, a pair of wellington boots encircled by the word ‘Borders’, is visual enough to be used in markets where English is not widely spoken. ?Attitudes to outerwear differ throughout Europe and our boots are likely to appeal to different market sectors in different countries. This has serious implications for the benefits we wish to publicise. Although Danish farmers would be willing to purchase such a high quality, product, farmers in some countries would be unlikely to choose a British brand over a domestic product. However, the very Britishness of the product would appeal to the style-conscious elements of the French and Italian markets, summoning up images of the English upper classes and country houses. ?Our current product is multi-purpose and as such would not need adapting to suit different sectors of the European market.

Research proposal example

Developing Research Proposals Handout Prepared by Ted Zorn, University of Waikato This is a handout I often give to students when I expect them to provide a research proposal for a course project. That is, it’s intended for fairly brief proposals, not a prospectus for a masters or doctoral thesis. It gives students an example of the sort of thing I want, plus some commentary (in italics) about what I’m expecting in each section. I sometimes change the particular example given, in order to encourage them to think about particular kinds of projects. For instance, the example provided here was used in a Leadership Communication course. I’ve used the same format, but a different research project example, for a course on Organisational Communication Technology. Feel free to adapt it to your purposes.

(Research Director, Graduate Program in Counselling Psychology. Trinity Western University Langley, BC, Canada). 题为:How to Write a Research Proposal. Most students and beginning researchers do not fully understand what a resear ch proposal means, nor do they understand its importance. To put it bluntly, one’s research is only as a good as one’s proposal. An ill-conceived proposal dooms the p roject even if it somehow gets through the Thesis Supervisory Committee. A high q uality proposal, on the other hand, not only promises success for the project, but also impresses your Thesis Committee about your potential as a res earcher. A research proposal is intended to convince others that you have a worthwhile research project and that you have the competence and the work-plan to complete it. Generally, a research proposal should contain all the key elements involved in th e research process and include sufficient information for the readers to evaluate the proposed study. Regardless of your research area and the methodology you choose, all research proposals must address the following questions: What you plan to accomplish, why you want to do it and how you are going to do it. The proposal should have sufficient information to convince your readers that y ou have an important research idea, that you have a good grasp of the relevant lit erature and the major issues, and that your methodology is sound. The quality of your research proposal depends not only on the quality of your proposed project, but also on the quality of your proposal writing. A good research project may run the risk of rejection simply because the proposal is poorly written. Therefore, it pays if your writing is coherent, clear and compelling. This paper focuses on proposal writing rather than on the development of rese arch ideas. Title: It should be concise and descriptive. For example, the phrase, “An investigat ion of . . .” could be omitted. Often titles are stated in terms of a functional relatio nship, because such titles clearly indicate the independent and dependent variables. However, if possible, think of an informativ e but catchy title. An effective title not o nly pricks the reader’s interest, but also predisposes him/her favourably towards the proposal. Abstract:

Lambert,Larcker and Verrecchia(1991)、Hall and Murphy(1992)等基于管理层的风险厌恶和资产不可分散性,采用确定性等价值方法,研究了经理人不同风险厌恶程度和资产分散程度下股票期权的确定性等价值。

Should We Resume The Traditional Chinese Characters? 1. Should We Resume The Traditional Chinese Characters? With the increasing exchanges between the mainland and Taiwan or Hong Kong, a problem has attracted people′s attention: different Chinese characters used in different parts seem to stand in the way of the exchanges. So some people propose to resume the traditional Chinese characters. Besides, they say, learning traditional characters helps people know better about our traditional culture. Others, however, oppose the proposal. Firstly, they argue that traditional Chinese characters are much more complicated than the simplified ones. If we bring back the traditional ones, it will add to the difficulty of both writing and reading. Secondly, for foreigners, simplified characters are much easier to learn, which may help popularize Chinese culture. Personally speaking, I don′t see anything wise in the restoring of the traditional Chinese characters. It is obvious that bringing them back will cost a lot of time and energy, because nearly all the mainlanders will have to start form the scratch. In addition, foreign exchange will be affected with foreigners frightened away by the complicated characters. 价格 Dear Tom I am Lihua. proposal_的写法

How to write a research proposal?
