In modern society, living without money sounds almost impossible. However,

Rachel Newby, 25, and Liam Culbertson, 27, have come up with creative ways of making it through the year without spending any money. They built themselves a new house. Smoking in indoor public places including public working places, public transport vehicles(车辆) and some other special outdoor working places has been banned(禁止) in China since January 2011. Let’s look at the following advantages of banning smoking.

First, banning smoking will not only help in saving smokers from health problems and diseases, but will also be good for passive(被动) smokers. When the smoker is smoking in a restaurant, the people around him are sure to breathe(呼吸) in the smoke and suffer(受苦，患病) from the diseases an active smoker gets. If smoking is banned, spread of these diseases can be controlled(控制).

So if it is banned, these places will become safe for children and teenagers.

Sometimes, you just can’t help it. Maybe you’re watching a sad movie, or thinking about the friend who moved away. Why do people cry? What are tears(眼泪)? Scientists are working hard to find the answers to these questions.

Ad Vingerhoets is a professor of psychology at Tilburg University, in the Netherlands. He is one of the few scientists in the world who has studied crying. According to Vingerhoets, there are three types of tears. Basal tears are the first type. They act as a protective object between the eye and the rest of the world. Next are reflex tears. They wash your eyes clean when something gets in them. Finally, there are emotional tears. “They are connected with our feelings.” explains Vingerhoets. "Especially when we feel helpless"

Scientists believe that crying has something to do with how humans developed and learned to depend on each other. “Humans are very complex(复杂的)，"says Lauren Bylsma, a professor from the USA.“It seems that tears serve to get help and support from others.” She says another reason we cry is that humans have the longest developmental period of almost any animal. It takes a long time for humans to grow up.

Vingerhoets . “I think that the reason why humans cry has to do with our long childhood，he says. “That’s the time when we are still dependent on adults for love and protection and care. Tears were a safer way to be noticed by others. “In this case, it is better to use a silent signal to ask for help,” he says.

Mngerhoets and Bylsma do lots of studies to better understand why humans cry. According to Bylsma, there is still much more to discover. “It’s surprising,” she says, “how much we still don’t know.”

The Daming Temple

Initially(最初) built during the Daming Period of Liu Song Dynasty in the Southern Dynasty, the Daming Temple lies on the hillside of the Shugang Ridge（山脊）in the northwest of Yangzhou. After going through the Gate Hall. You will find two ginkgo trees growing to the north of the hall. Further north stands the main hall of the temple, called the Mahavira Hall（大雄宝殿），which is a one-story building with a triple-eave roof（三重檐屋顶）. To the east of the Daming Temple stands the high Qiling Tower. In the Tang Dynasty many a poet like Li Bai, Gao Shi, Bai Juyi and Liu Yuxi visited and climbed the tower and wrote verses. The present Qiling Tower, a nine-story structure reaching 70 metres in height, was rebuilt in 1995 in the style of the Tang Dynasty.

The main building of the Memorial Hall Of Master Jian Zhen is located to the northeast of the Mahavira Hall. Jian Zhen, a famous master of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, was a Y angzhou native. He resided in the Daming Temple as the abbor for many years before he left for Japan. Jian Zhen’s sailing to Japan had great influences on Japan.

To the west of the Mahavira Hall is the Pingshan Hall which was built by Ou Yangxiu. After the failure of the reform(改革), he was demoted（贬职）to Yangzhou to take office as the mayor. Years later, Su Dongpo, Ou Yangxiu’s student, came to Yangzhou. In order to memorize his teacher, he built the Guilin Hall behind the Pingshan Hall. Besides, Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong admired Ou Yangxiu for his personality, statesmanship（治国之才）and essays so much that they came here each time they went on their southern inspection tours.
