第三部分阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,共30分)

Many people influenced various aspects of my life, based on their personal characteristics, accomplishments and values. I have been fortunate to have had numerous teachers and professors who I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativity. I value many political leaders, who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their ability to change our futures. But of all the people I have known in my life, the person I admire most is my father.

As the youngest girl in my family, I always co nsidered myself to be “Daddy's little girl”. While I grew up, it always made me sad to see so many of my friends and neighbors without a father or father-like figure around. This helped me appreciate how my father always takes an interest in his children's lives. In every aspect of my life my father continuously pushes me to excel, so I could accomplish my work outstandingly among my people. Whenever I feel like giving up, or have a question or a concern, I know I can always call on him for advice. From him I have also learned that sometimes you have to put others' needs ahead of your own, but you should make sure you are not taken advantage of by others. His strength seems to be unbreakable during hard times, and he is extremely determined to accomplish anything he sets his mind on, no matter how tiny it is. I highly respect him for how he stands up for what he believes in, and will never

back down. I have always admired his open mind, compassion(同情) for people, and sense of understanding. He is a very reserved(保守的) man, but to everybody's surprise, he has a great sense of humor, and always knows how to put a smile on the faces of his wife, his children and his friends.

Living in his affection(爱) and instruction, I am very proud of my father. He also professes(声称) how proud he is of his children, and is still there to support us in whatever we are involved in.

Besides calling 911, here is what to do in some life-threatening

emergencies when no one is around to help.

Lost in the wilderness

First, you've got to acknowledge(承认) you're in

trouble. Stay where you can be seen clearly and remember to

rest. Keeping a sense of humor helps too —it reduces stress

and helps creative thinking. In a wide open area, make a colorful

cross out of rocks to show your present position. Choking

Aim to hit the top of the chair against your stomach in the

soft part below the bony upside-down V of the ribs (肋骨).

Make a sudden push against the chair. If you still can't breathe after six tries, call 911, even i f you can't talk. Write the word choking somewhere nearby, and leave the line open until help arrives.

Severe bleeding

Use your hand or clean cotton, or paper towels, or a scarf, or any cloth you can find, and push down on the wound until the bleeding stops. But if you put a bandage around your leg tightly, you're going to

close the vessels(血管)to the entire leg. In this way, you could lose your foot.

Bear attack

If you surprise a bear, don't run away. That invites an attack.

Instead, stand up and back away slowly without looking the bear in the eyes. If it does charge at you, stick out your chest, raise your arms, and spread your legs. Shout at the bear to frighten it. If it’s going to attack, lie face down, with your hands held firmly behind your neck. Play dead until you’re sure the bear is gone.

Surface Exploration. Robots make great explorers on planets, moons and other landing areas. Apart from the earth, just about every surface in the solar system is unsafe for humans to explore. The air on most other planets is not enough for humans to breathe, making it necessary to wear a space suit and oxygen equipment. The temperatures on these surfaces are much too hot or much too cold for any humans to withstand. Plus there would be complications(复杂)with radiation, weather, and shortage of gravity. Robots have much less limitation in these areas and can survive much longer under these conditions.

Data Collection.Robots are designed for collecting scientific data(数据). Robots are also able to perform many tasks at one time and can process information much quicker and more efficiently. Important scientific projects from detecting minerals, analyzing ground samples, and finding water are all performed much quicker and more accurately by robots.

Cost Effective. The use of robots has made the cost of space exploration much less expensive than it would cost for humans to do the work. In order to successfully send humans into space we would need to build a vehicle that can carry not only humans but also enough food and water to keep them alive during the trip. Moreover, robots have no problems working for hours on end. Robots never complain, they don't require food or water, and they never need a bathroom break.

Space Travel. Over the past 30 years or so there have been many different types of robots used successfully in the exploration of space. Perhaps the most famous and successful robots are the Spirit and Opportunity who have both been exploring the surface of Mars. They have both been very successful with experiments on soil and rocks and have even found evidence of water in Mars’ history.

64. What's the author's purpose of writing the passage?

A. To describe how the robots collect scientific data.

B. To show how the robots are used in space exploration.

C. To prove how useful the robots are in our daily life.

D. To show us the latest development of the robotic technology.

65. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A. The use of robots in space exploration cost more than the use of humans.

B. It may be dangerous for humans to explore the solar system except the earth.

C. Both the Spirit and Opportunity have found the evidence of water in Mars.

D. Many different types of robots have explored the space successfully.

66. The underlined word “withstand” most probably means “”.

A. arise

B. tolerate

C. defeat

D. understand

67. What is the writer's attitude in writing this passage?

A. Negative.

B. Persuasive.

C. Subjective.

D. Objective.

书面表达(20分)

范文:Hello, everyone! I am glad to have such a good chance to give a talk about the future life and future study here.

Thanks to the great development in science and technology, the future life is sure to change a lot. Everything is so convenient. Not only can we enjoy on-line shopping without leaving our homes, we can also spend more time travelling around the world and even going to the moon for holidays. Furthermore, robots can help us do housework, which makes our spare time more colourful.

As for study, we will have less stress since we study more efficiently. I’m convinced that there’ll be more educational programmes on TV or the Internet. Therefore, there is no need to go to school every day. We just stay at home to have e-school education.

Even though our future life is wonderful, it is full of challenges. As Senior Two students, we should work harder today, making preparations to make contributions to the future society. Only in this way can we adapt to the future life and enjoy ourselves when it comes.

That’s all. Thank you!

We’ll probably spend some time doing some sightseeing and then we’re going to lie on the beach for a few days in Valparaiso, which is on the coast, not far away from Santiago. Then I’m flying to Lima where I’m going to meet my girlfriend.

W: Then you’ll have a good time together.

M: Yes. We’ll probably go somewhere else. I don’t know where yet, but I’d like to spend a week in the jungle. Then we’ll pro bably fly home.

W: Well, have a nice time!

Many rules govern drivers on American streets and highways. The most common ones are the speed limit regulates how fast a car may go. On streets in the city, the speed limit is usually 25 or 35 miles per hour. On the highways between cities, the speed limit is usually 55 miles per hour. When people drive faster than the speed limit, a policeman can stop them. The policeman gives them pieces of paper which people call traffic tickets. Traffic tickets tell the drivers how much money they must pay. When drivers receive too many tickets, they probably cannot drive for a while. The rush hour is when people are going to work or going home. During the rush hours, there are many cars in the streets and traffic moves very slowly. Nearly all American cities have rush hours. Drivers do not get tickets very often for speeding during the rush hours because they cannot drive fast.
