home is best. My hometown—Zigong.
1.Zigong is located in Sichuan Basin, granted the recognition as one of
the Historical and Cultural Cities by the State Council.
As you can see in the picture, Zigong is the smallest city in Sichuan.
But she has plenty of wonderful things that I want to share to you.
2.Since I’ve already introduced the first three parts to you last term, this
time, I’ll focus on the next three parts. But, first, let’s give a glimpse of them.
3.Different from sea salt and cliff salt, the salt in Zigong comes from
wells. This is Tianche; it is a drilling rig; it means this is a tool to get salt from the well.
4.Look,here is a model. The classical method of drilling and production
was the following: a drilling rig is erected（竖直的）and a borehole is drilled using a drilling bit and rope.With the return of the rope, Brine（盐水）is extracted(提取) by dropping a long tube（管道）down the borehole. 【This is a model of drilling rig. Those drilling bits and the rope are tools that help to get brine out of the borehole.】5.And, this borehole is the Shenhai Well, the only one traditional salt
well which still exists, as a model of memoring the workers and the traditional industry.
6.The reason why there is plenty of brine is that, according to geological
investigation, the soil layers from the Jurassic period located around Zigong were originally formed from a wide area near a lake. So we have salt well now. The same time, we have a precious gift from Jurassic period,
7.that is, Dinosaurs. Till now, only around 20 percent of dinosaurs in the
world belong to the Jurassic period, and most of these are from the late Jurassic, lacking the early and middle stages that show how dinosaurs development.
8.At Zigong, especially at Dashanpu, the fossils come mostly from the
early and middle periods, so that this provides extremely valuable material.The Dinosaur Museum ...
9.And here is a coming event in Zigong. That is the Lantern Festival.
Zigong is one of the originators of the Chinese Lantern Festival, which has been copied in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. Last month, a group of the lamps are displayed in the US. And, as one of the Historical and Cultural Cities of China, Zigong is called “Lantern Town in the South Kingdom.”China’s fancy lanterns are well-known in both ancient and modern times, while the Zigong Lantern Fair has a long-standing reputation. In China where lantern fairs prevailed over thousands of years, the Zigong Lantern Fair concentrates all the splendors of the Chinese lantern cultures.

11.As a tourism city, Zigong’s handicrafts are outstanding. First, I’ll
introduce the Gong’s fan to you.
12.Do you know who she is? Y es, she is the Empress Dowager Cixi, the
famous Queen of Qing dynasty. Actually, the fan in her hand is the Gong’s fan.
13.I t was said that she loves the fan very much, so she gave the inventor a
gold medal and changed the name 龚扇to宫扇. It means that, this kind of fan had becoming a royal fan from that time. After seeing a lot of the fans, can you guess what are they made from? Are they silk? Or string? In fact, they made from bamboo.
14.Here are the materials. They were cut from the inside of bamboo.

As the saying goes, “T he essence of Sichuan cuisine is from Zigong cuisine.” That means, the best foods in China are the Sichuan dishes, and the best foods in Sichuan are the Zigong dishes.

picture last term, but I didn’t go details. Now, do you want to know more about them?
30.This is fresh rabbit. Last time, Shirley came to my hometown, and
we ate this one.
31.And, this is also the rabbit. But, it contents less oil and less heat. In
fact, most of you have tried the dry rabbit which my mom cooked. If you want to learn how to make it, listen carefully please.
32.First, prepare these ingredients: chilli, condiment, ginger, and
tangerine. Then, mixed them with rabbit and stirred. In this step, you
need to put some salts in it. Last, get all of them into the boiling oil and keep stirring them until the rabbit is dry enough. This step, you may spend more than 20 minutes.
33.Apart from rabbit, I love beef most. This is the “Lamplight’s shadow
beef”, also called “火鞭子牛肉”. This kind of beef got the name just because they are too flimsy. Light can go through them.
34.And this beef is easy to buy in Y onghui supermarket. Next time,
when you go to Y onghui, you can have a try.
35.Here comes my best loved one. “Beef in the pepper oil”. It invented
by the Zigong people at the beginning of 19C.
36.T o make it, you should first cut the beef and lettuce into slice.
37.A nd then, put the lettuce and bean sprouts at the bottom of a big bowl.
38.T hen, put the chilli and ginger into the boiling oil. And, after you can
smell the delicious flavor,
39.p ut the beef into the oil. About 5 minuets later,
40.pull them into the big bowl. And the “Beef in pepper oil” is done.
41.A t school, the beef I eat most is the “Dry beef” sent by my mom. And,
most of you also have tried it. The way to make the dry beef is the same as the dry rabbit.
42.Another tasty food is Douhua. It is similar to tofu but not the same
one. And, Fushun, where my family lived now, is called the hometown of Douhua. Y ou can see many shop sign of “Traditional Fushun’s
Douhua(正宗富顺豆花)” in many places. I’ve been to Bonnie’s hometown, and in the downtown streets, I met at least 3 of the Douhua eaterie s there. Also, in Beibei, I’ve found one out of No.5 Gate. But, none of them can provide the true taste.
43.Because, these eateries do not have such condiment. It needs skills
and experiences to make the yummy condiment.
44.And, to get a tasty Douhua, firstly, we should grind the soybean after
soaking the beans.
45.Then, we will filter the impure soya-bean milk.
46.After that, we can cook the milk. While cooking, we will put some
soda to make the Douhua tender.
47.As to the condiment, we will hammer the chilli, which have already
been soaked. Well, food in Zigong I’ve mentioned so many. I really want you to feel them with your own tongue. Once eaten, never forget.
48.Ok, now, let’s turn our attention to the famous people.
49.The first one I’d like to introduce to you is Liu Guangdi. He is one of
the chief leaders in 1898’s revolution. We’ve learned it in history class;
this is “戊戌变法”. He was killed by the Empress Dowager Cixi. I love his poetry very much. The cheerful thing for me is that our school library has his biography. And, I’ve written an essay to commemorate him in my blog.
50.Next, have you ever heard of Li Zongwu? His theories have deeply
influenced the society from the early 20C to now.
51.And, Mr. Wu have leaded many famous battles in the early 20C,
including the “Uprising of Guangzhou(广州起义)”, “The railway-protect movement in Sichuan(四川保路运动)” and so on. He was the headmaster of many universities, including the “Renmin University of China(中国人民大学)”and the “Sichuan University(四川大学)”. In Sichuan University, there has a Wu Y uzhang School, which is the same as our Hanhong School. It is him that led my hometown to be the first city of ancient China to be divorced from Qing dynasty.
