Dear Tony,

Thanks for your last email. It was great to hear from you. I know you are arriving in our city tomorrow and I can’t wait to see you. Unluckily I fell off my bike on my way home from school and hurt one of my legs. So I’m very sorry that I can’t go to the railway station to meet you. I t’s not difficult to find my home. Now let me tell you how to get to my house.

You can take a bus or a taxi after you get off the train. Go along the road and turn right at the traffic lights into Peony Street. There’s a market on your left and then turn left into Changjiang Road. Go along Changjiang Road and then get off at the first crossing. Walk down the road and you can see a restaurant. My house is next to it. It will take you about half an hour to get to my house. See you tomorrow!

Yours,

Many kinds of animals are in danger now. Let me tell you four kinds of such aniamls.

Giant pandas live in the forest of China. Outside China they are only in zoos. They eat only one kind of food—bamboo. Keeping a panda in a zoo is difficult because it must have bamboo to eat and it is difficult for giant pandas to have a baby in a zoo.

An Asian elephant has much smaller ears than the African elephants. They live in thick, green forests. These animals need lots of place to live and find their food. There are only less than 3,000 Ceylon elephants (a kind of Asian elephant) in the world now.

Tigers belong to the cat family. They kill small animals such as deer and cattle for food. The tigers are in trouble because of cutting down the forests and hunting. People kill them for their beautiful skins. In 1939 there were about 30,000 tigers in India, but today there are only 3,000. The European otter lives in Europe. It has soft, brown fur on its body. It is almost 75cm long. Its tail is half as long as its body. Its head is flat and broad. It has small and round ears. Today people still kill the poor animals for its fur.

If you enjoy reading, don’t miss Shakespeare and Company when you visit the city of Paris. It is a famous English-language bookstore on the left bank of the river Seine. An American, Sylvia Beach, opened the first Shakespeare and Company in history in 1919. Ms. Beach did more than selling books. Her bookstore was also a library, and she even prepared beds for writers visiting there. Ms. Beach was not only kind to people but also good at choosing books, so her bookstore was often visited by writers like Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce. But in 1941, after the Germans took power in Paris, Ms. Beach had to close her bookstore.

In 1951, another American, George Whitman opened in Paris another English- language bookstore, Librairie Mistral. Since then, just as Ms. Beach did, Mr. Whitman has also made his bookstore a library for people to borrow books, and a free hotel for writers to stay in. To remember Ms. Beach, Mr. Whitman changed the name of his bookstore to Shakespeare and Company in 1964, two years after Ms. Beach died.

“So things get larger when they get hot, don’t they?”

Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here are some suggestions for you to bridge generation gap(代沟). Don't argue with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them You can't express(表达)yourself well if you are angry. Go to some place to cool off. Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree(有分歧) on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a car. They argued over it, but finally they came to a compromise. Michael bought the car, but only drove it on certain days. Of course your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong. Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter (笑声)Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy. The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. "Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr. Kataria. "Everyone is naturally good at laughing-it's the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives." There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over l,300 in the world. According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Medicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%. So what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha.” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects. Surprisingly, it worked! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed-and comfortable I felt. 中考英语阅读理解100篇:中考英语阅读理解真题及答案(1) Edward rose early on the New-year morning. He looked in every room and wished a Happy New Year to his family. Then he ran into the street to repeat that to those he might meet. When he came back, his father gave him two bright, new silver dollars. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some pretty books that he had seen at the bookstore. He left the house with a light heart, expecting to buy the books. As he ran down the street, he saw a poor family. “I wish you a Happy New Year.” said Edward, as he was passing on. The man shook his head. “You are not from this country.” said Edward. The man again shook his head, for he could not understand or speak his language. But he pointed to his mouth and to the children shaking with cold, as if (好像) to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.” Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in trouble. He took out his dollars and gave one to the man, and the other to his wife. They were excited and said something in their language, which doubtless meant, “We thank you so much that we will remember you all the time.” When Edward came home, his father asked what books he had bought.
