SAP

What is SAP?

SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing) is the leading ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software package. SAP was the first to integrate a corporation's worldwide functions tightly into one application. SAP R/2 was released as the first version of their software in 1979. Its domination of the market occurred during the 1980s, expanding first throughout Europe (early 1980s) and then North America (1988). SAP R/3, an advanced, client-server based version of the popular R/2 product, was released in 1992 and sparked a stunning takeover of America's largest businesses —44% of US companies were using it within five years of its expansion. In 1999, SAP introduced its newest major product upgrade. Named https://www.wendangku.net/doc/f44700701.html, to emphasize its shift to an e- business focus, https://www.wendangku.net/doc/f44700701.html, builds on the strengths of the SAP R/3 product in a fully Internet enabled architecture. https://www.wendangku.net/doc/f44700701.html, also incorporates SAP's newest business applications for CRM, Supply Chain Management (SAP APO), and Data Warehousing (Business Information Warehouse or BW)

Prior to the introduction of https://www.wendangku.net/doc/f44700701.html,, these applications had been incorporated as add-ons to SAP R/3 and were known as New Dimension products. Given below is a brief overview of both the products from SAP –SAP R/3 and mySAP

SAP R/3 Overview

SAP R/3 is SAP's integrated software solution for client/server and distributed open systems. SAP's R/3 is the world's most-used standard business software for client/server computing. R/3 meets the needs of a customer from the small grocer with 3 users to the multi-billion dollar companies The software is highly customizable using SAP's proprietary programming language, ABAP/4. R/3 is scalable and highly suited for many types and sizes of organizations.

The R/3 architecture is comprised of application and database servers. The application servers house the software and the database servers handle document updates and master file databases. The system can support an unlimited number of servers and a variety of hardware configurations. For more information see SAP R/3 Architecture at SAP home page.

SAP R/3 is based on various hardware and software architectures, running on most types of UNIX, on Windows NT and OS/400. SAP R/3 runs on several databases Oracle, Adabas D, Informix, DB2 for UNIX, DB2/400, and Microsoft’s SQL Server 6.0. Since R/3 foundation, SAP has made significant development and installed thousands of R/3 systems

Siebel

What Is Siebel?

Siebel Systems is an eBusiness solutions company and a market-leading provider of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. Tom Siebel (CEO) and Pat House (Executive Vice President) founded Siebel Systems in July 1993. Headquartered in San Mateo, California, the company has over 5,000 employees who work in numerous offices and countries worldwide.

Siebel's initial product set out to organize and automate the sales force with calendars and contact management systems. It has since added numerous other Customer Service, Marketing and e-Commerce applications to its product line. Siebel has quickly become one of the fastest growing companies in the United States, in part because it formed early partnerships with large firms like Charles Schwab, Andersen Consulting and Compaq. Siebel has garnered name recognition and financial success, and is well known for its dedication to providing good customer service. Every quarter, a third-party service performs an audit of Siebel customers' satisfaction, which helps determine Siebel employees' compensation.

Siebel Product Overview

Siebel's applications allow companies to access information about their customers whenever they need it. Siebel's main product line includes its Call Center, Field Services and Sales, and Marketing applications, which allow employees located in different parts of a company to have access to the information they need to assist, service and make additional sales

to customers. Recent additions to the Siebel product line allow customers and business partners to access to their own information via the Internet for self-service. By effectively managing customer information with Siebel products, the Sales Force can sell more, Marketing teams can more effectively target campaigns to existing customers, and Customer Service Representatives can resolve customer issues quickly and more efficiently.

Oracle ERP Suite is based on Oracle Apps framework. What that essentially means to the customers is that no matter which component of the suite you buy, you get the same look and feel.

Advantages of Oracle E-Business Suite

Oracle Database

The biggest USP of Oracle ERP is that it is based on Oracle Database, which in itself is a market leader. So the Oracle ERP is best placed to take advantage of the advances in the database technology. The buzzword is "If it is in the database, you will get it and get it fast!!"

Consultants

As far as the components of the suite itself are concerned Oracle Financials is a market leader, Oracle HRMS and Payroll they are catching up pretty fast. So the market indications are pretty positive and you have enough consultants in the market to cash in.

UI

Oracle Apps UI comes in two flavours - The Oracle Forms and the Oracle Self Service Application (HTML). The former is meant for the power user and provides incredibly quick learning curves for people from the finance and other domains who are used to Fox pro and dBase forms.

The Oracle Self Service Application is an HTML based solution and specifically caters to the global organization where Internet plays a major role.

Role Based Security

Oracle has been a pioneer in Database Security systems and the buzz word of Oracle Database is "Unbreakable". Oracle Apps seem to gain from this legacy of secure systems. The role based security system offered by Oracle Apps is one of the better security models available currently.

Advantage over Best of Breed Software

Best of breed software cater to specific areas like HRMS, Financials etc. If your business is looking for software in only one specific area and you don't think s/w for the other areas are required, you might be tempted to go for these offering... But one word of caution, in case you go for s/w for other areas where you select another best of breed s/w, you might end up paying exceptional amount of money in integrating the two softwares.

This is where Oracle Apps and other Suite vendors like SAP score over the best of the breed software. Implementing different parts of the suite would be much less costly than best of breed software and getting them to talk to each other.

Fast adoption of standards

By past record Oracle has a good record of adoption of new legal and technological standards which keep arising from time to time. So standards like Rosettanet, uccnet would be adopted as they solidify.

Ease of customization and installation

Oracle has a good record on supporting products. Oracle Apps are quite easy to install and customize according to your business needs.

Reports

Another major USP of Oracle Apps. In fact one single thing that should make you sit back and take notice. Check out the Oracle Daily business intelligence package. Chances are your business needs it.

What We Learned about Fusion Apps

By Jeff Moad | Published: September 23,

https://www.wendangku.net/doc/f44700701.html,/.../what-we-learne

As Oracle enterprise application strategists and developers have labored to deliver the company’s Fusion Applications over the past 6 years or so, some cynical enterprise applications observers have been tempted to re-label the

high-profile initiative ConFusion Applications. (I, of course, would never stoop to this level of forced word play.)

Why confusion? Because Oracle hasn’t done a good job of communicating a consistent Fusion Apps strategy or roll-out plan.

When Oracle began discussing Fusion Applications (then Project Fusion) in January 2005, then-project leader John Wookey said the intent was to harvest the best functionality from each of the company’s ERP families — E-Business Suite, JD Edwards, and PeopleSoft — and roll it into a complete, new suite that would offer a migration path to existing ERP customers. This was before Oracle launched its Applications Unlimited program, and the company was promising to continue extending and supporting its existing ERP suites for only 10 more years.

After Oracle launched Applications Unlimited and its open-ended promise to continue the support and extension of existing ERP products, the Fusion Apps story changed. It was no longer the logical migration path for EBS, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards users. Now it was a next-generation option. Customers, Oracle said, could stick with their existing apps, adopt Fusion, or even create their own functionality using the company’s BPEL and Applications Integration Architecture tools. They were free to choose.

Later, Oracle officials said Fusion wasn’t necessarily a complete suite but a collection of edge applications to which Oracle chose to apply the Fusion label.

And, of course, Oracle’s schedule for delivering Fusion Apps became a moving target. At first, Oracle said it would deliver a full Fusion Apps suite in 2008. By 2006 the company was ahead of schedule, it said, and halfway to its goal. Then Oracle went strangely silent on Fusion, briefing favored analysts on occasion, but never publicly updating its delivery schedule, even as the original deadline passed.

Sunday, at Fusion Apps’ official launch, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said, “It’s not like we went into a cave for five years and did this in isolation.” But that’s exactly what it felt like.

After attending several Fusion Apps sessions at Or acle OpenWorld (OOW) this week, however, I see that much — though not all — of the confusion has lifted. Here’s what Oracle cleared up this week, and what remains a bit hazy:

?Scope: Fusion Apps will become a complete suite of applications, but today it’s m ore of a collection of modules. While Oracle executives such as Vice President for Supply Chain Strategy Jon Chorley told customers at

OOW that Fusion is a “complete suite,” it’s clearly not. Release 1 consists of seven modules — supply chain, HCM, CRM, financials, project portfolio

management, procurement, and GRC. But there’s no manufacturing module, and many of the announced modules are quite thin. The supply chain

management (SCM) module, for example, consists of inventory

management and costing (neither suitable for a manufacturing company,

Chorley said), product master data management, order planning, and a cool new Distributed Order Optimization (DOO) app that acts as a broker

between disparate order and fulfillment channels. No supply chain planning.

No warehouse management. No transportation management. So Oracle isn’t selling Fusion Apps as a complete alternative to EBS, JDE, or PeopleSoft, particularly not for manufacturing customers. It will get there, Oracle says.

But for now the company is selling individual modules, such as DOO or

product master data management, which have been engineered to

interoperate with Oracle’s existing ERP suites. In a sense, Fusion Apps is an extension of Oracle’s acquisition strategy (think GLog and Demantra), but

with internally developed apps.

?Value Proposition: So, why should a company implement Fusion Supply Chain inventory management, for example, if it’s already running JD

Edwards inventory management? There are three reasons, Oracle says:

Fusion Apps have a more intuitive, role-based user interface; Fusion Apps

have embedded, real-time business intelligence; and Fusion Apps are

written in Java using an SOA framework and standard Oracle

middleware. While the SOA framework makes it possible for Oracle to

integrate Fus ion with its existing applications, I’m not sure that that, in and of itself, will be a major selling point for customers. The user interface,

embedded analytics, and some of the applications, such as DOO, are quite cool. And they may attract some existing customers who are going through

a comprehensive upgrade anyway. But no Oracle customers I spoke with at

OOW said the new features in Fusion Apps, in and of themselves, will

prompt them to switch out an existing module for a Fusion Apps module.

?Pricing: He re there’s still quite a lack of clarity. Oracle refused to discuss pricing in any detail. There were rumors at OOW that Oracle will offer a

like-for-like deal, enabling existing customers on maintenance to swap out an older module for a comparable Fusion module at no additional charge.

But that’s not official yet.In the meantime, there are reasons to think that

Fusion Apps will be more expensive than Oracle’s existing applications. For one thing, Oracle’s BI platform, OBIEE, is mandatory for Fusion, meanin g

potential customers may need to buy a new OBIEE license and a

maintenance contract.

?A vailability: Some uncertainty here also. Ellison said v1 of Fusion will ship in the first quarter of next year. But the build-out of Fusion into a full,

comprehensive suite is still a long way off. And the addition of vertical,

industry-specific functionality — such as support for manufacturing — is, no doubt, further out. Oracle hasn’t discussed that roadmap in any detail.

?The biggest question: If you’re an existing Orac le ERP customer, you have to wonder whether Oracle will continue to devote the same level of

R&D investment to older platforms while it builds out Fusion. Does it really make sense for Oracle to build the same advanced functionality — DOO, for example, or embedded BI — in JDE now that these features are in Fusion Apps? We’ll see.

And Fusion Apps raises another question, but not for Oracle. It’s now clear that Fusion Apps represents a serious commitment on Oracle’s part and, with time and continued investmen t, can move enterprise applications forward. So what’s SAP’s answer?

为表内的每一个字段添加表名缩写 例如客户表 customer cust_id cust_name cust_type cust_city ... 例如cust_city ,就不会和employee表的emp_city混淆了。

Oracle
