第二部分阅读理解 (共20小题,每小题3分,满分60分)

A

When I was a kid, I was close to my dad, but as I grew older, my dad and I grew further apart. We always had totally different opinions. He thought that college was a waste of time, but for me it was important to finish college. He wanted me to work my way to the top as he had done in his field, but I wanted a different life. There was a time when we did not talk with each other.

A few month ago, I heard that my 84-year-old dad was in poor health. When he called and asked whether I could move from Colorado back to Tennessee to help him, I knew he was seriously ill. I am his only child, so it was time to meet my father’s requirement.

Two weeks after moving back, we bought a boat and started fishing again. Fishing was one of the few things that we did while I was young and that we both enjoyed. It is strange but true that as we are fishing we are able to put things that have kept us apart for so many years behind us. We are able to talk about things that we have never talked about before. Fishing has been healing the old wounds that have kept us apart.

It is not important how many fish we catch. It is about enjoying the relationship that we have not had for years. I’m 62 and he is 84. When we are on the lake fishing, it is like two kids enjoying life. It is far better to find a way to put the unhappy past behind. I am so lucky to spend the happy time with my father in his last years. Now my heart is filled with love. A smile always graces my lips.

21. The author and his father became further apart because_______ .

A. they lived very far from each other

D. they seldom went to see each other

22. Why did the author come back to Tennessee?

A.Because his father invited him to go fishing.

B.Because he decided to live in a different city.

C.Because his father was ill and needed caring.

D.Because he regretted being rude to his father.

23. For the author, fishing with his old father ______ .

A. helps cure his father’s disease

B. is a good way to get close to nature

C.makes him realize the importance of exercise

D. offers a chance for them to communicate

24. What can be the best title for the text?

A. Fishing brings Us Together

B. Forgiving Is Difficult

C. Memories of Old Days

D. My Beloved Father

B

The idea of changing the world seems very crazy, but there are a number of small everyday things we can do to make the world better. Community centers, parks, libraries, homeless shelters, hospitals and schools are all places where students can make a difference through service.

Do youlove the planet you live on? Think of all the reasons why you love it. Do you love it because of the trees, fascinating wildlife, or beauty that each season brings? If you woke up tomorrow and it was all gone, how would you feel? Sure it wouldn’t happen this fast, but there’s a definite possibility of that happening in the future. And one step in changing the future is to recycle.

Not only does recycling save the Earth, but it saves your money too. It’s like killing two birds with one stone! By rrecycling you throw away fewer things, which means you empty the trash less often save money on trash bags. And for some materials you can even get paid to recycle.

As well as saving money by recycling, you will save the Earth too. Recycling is one of the best and easiest ways to save our planet; by recycling there will be less waste that is buried in landfills. This may not seem very helpful but it can take over five hundred years for a landfill to completely break down! And another benefit of recycling is that there wouldn’t be as many raw materials that would be destroyed. This would save materials such as trees, oil, and water. It would also conserve energe and natural resources, and reduce air and water pollution.

Your recycling may even inspire others around you to start recycling too! Imagine that you were looking for a house and you went to two different communities. One is littered with trash on the streets, while the other neighbourhood is lined with recycling bins. Obviously, the cleaner neighborhood is the one you would pick. If your community was like this it could leave a lasting impression in someone’s mind.

32. How does the author catch the reader’s attention?

A. By explaining his reasons.

B.By giving orders.

C.By raising questions.

D.By making comparisons.

33. If you do some recycling at home it means _______ .

A. it takes great trouble for ou to do so

B. you should waste much of your time

C. it is the only way to protect the earth

D. you can get a little income in a way

34. The underlined word “it” in the 3 paragraph means _______ .

A. energy

B. resource

C. pollution

D. recycling

35. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ______ .

A. many communities are littered with trash

B.most people pay rare attention to recycling

C.recycling can contribute to a neat environment

D.it is hard to know what others think about
