表示判断和推测的情态动词can/could/may/might/ /must/should 的用法如下:

a.It is 11:00 p.m. now, but my son hasn’t come back home. Where can he be now?

b.--- Look, Mr. Wang is working so late again. The light in his office is still on now.

---No, it can’t be him. I know he has gone to Beijing for a meeting.

----Who can it be then?

--- It must be Mr. Li. He is taking Mr. Wang place these days.

c.----Will you go to the cinema tonight?

--- I haven’t decided yet. I might/may go to the tearoom instead.

Accidents can happen on such foggy days!( 客观的可能性)

a.It can’t/couldn’t have rained last night, for the ground is still wet.

b.Something must have gone wrong with my computer, for it doesn’t work now.

c.Why didn’t you go to Mr. Y ang? He may/might have given you useful advice.

a.Y our father can’t be an engineer, is he?

b.He might have arrived in Xi’an yesterday, didn’t he?

c.He must have finished the project by now, hasn’t he?

a. It’s nearly seven o’clock. Jack should be here at any moment.

b. --- When can I come for the photos? I need them tomorrow afternoon.

---- They should be ready by 12:00.
