旅游英语教学方法与问题

一、旅游英语课程的特点

随着科技、交通、对外交流的快速发展,越来越多的外国游客涌入中国,以感受千年文明古国的魅力。国人在惊喜的同时,问题出现了,那便是:如何让外国游客更好、更精确地了解中国的悠久历史和灿烂文化?英语作为一门国际语言,几乎在世界上的每一个角落都可以发现它的身影。于是,很多教育机构和工作人员试图通过开设一门课程,期待能够培养出部分当前所需要的能够用英语将中国各个地方风土人情准确阐述出来的专业人员,这门课程的名称就是《旅游英语》。通过两年的教学实践,对于该门课程,我有了以下几点思考。

1.课程的实践性高。

各个行业,凡是与国外游客正面接触的相关产业都有涉及。换而言之,旅游英语这门课程不但要帮助学生使用英语了解各地文化、习俗、历史,更要使得学生通过本门课程的学习,达到能够用英语生动有趣地将其讲述给外国游客的水平。由此,我们不难发现,未来从事旅游相关行业的人员需要具备扎实的语言文化功底,他们的语言表达能力及服务质量是我们国家留给外国人的第一印象,其影响深远。因此,这门课程需要重点培养学生的实践能力。

2.专业性高。

若要培养出适应市场需求的高素质旅游从业人员,就必须教给学生各个方面的知识,这些知识涉及各个方面:中国地理状态,各地区不同的历史文化,旅游景点相关英文介绍,航班相关信息,交通、饭店、住宿信息,医疗保健卫生,等等。若要开设这门课程,就需要学生具备这些技能,因此,旅游英语这门课程需要重点培养学生在有英语基础的情况下,掌握各方面与旅游相关行业的专业知识。

3.综合性要求高。

从中国旅游现状来看,目前的旅游从业人员普遍素质较低,能够合理准确地使用英语传达讲述我国各个著名景点历史文化信息的专业人士更是少之又少。能够培养出全方位、一体化、高质量的专业人员,是目前开设《旅游英语》这门课程的目的所在。这类人员需要具备十分丰富、各个领域的知识,而且这些知识需要在具体的英语口语交流中表达出来。由此可见,这是一门综合性较强的课程,老师应当想办法努力传授相关方面的知识,帮助学生扩大知识面。

二、实际教学过程中的教学方法方式研究

通过这门课程的学习,学生不但要掌握英语相关知识,还需了解并积累旅游专业相关知识。如何在实际的教学过程中使学生高效率、高质量地完成并掌握相关知识?我认为这是目前教师真正需要认真探索、解决和提高的方面。在近两年的教学实践过程中,我总结了一些比较行之有效的解决办法。

1.努力提高学生参与积极性。

针对学生现状,因为绝大多数学生都有过旅游经历或是有着未来去旅游的想法,可以以此为依据,要求学生选择自己感兴趣的旅游城市、名胜古迹,查阅各种资料,充分利用互联网强大的数据信息搜索功能,搜集各方面知识,给予足够时间,让学生在课堂上通过各种方式展示自己的感兴趣的地方,也可以讲述自己的经历。

2.适时合理的鼓励学生。

针对学生水平层次不齐、各有所长的实际情况,目前,在课堂教学中,不但要表扬课堂任务完成较好的学生,更要鼓励程度较差的学生,努力使他们在本门课程中快乐、积极、热情地学习,适时的鼓励可调动学生的能动性,从而使其更主动,甚至变被动为主动地学习。

3.及时督促学生完成课程任务。

目前,就我所接触的学生而言,他们普遍存在惰性心理,如若在本门课程的学习过程中不能够及时督促学生按计划逐步完成任务,旅游英语的课程教学初衷就随之荡然无存,故而,

必须强调督促检查的重要性。

4.充分利用现有的技术设备。

多媒体教学以一种先进的、生动的、可视的教学技术手段,为我们创造了一个很好的教学平台,作为教师,我们可以在课堂上给学生播放视频、图片、音频,因此,就需要我们尽全力寻找相关影音资料,充分利用多媒体技术设备。

5.创造机会让学生进行实践锻炼。

旅游英语这门课程是在有市场需求的基础上开设的课程,故而通过本门课程的学习,学生可以将所学知识直接应用于实际的旅游实践当中,学校也要积极创造条件,让学生通过到涉外酒店、旅行社、各个著名景点,通过亲身实践,在具体的实际工作中加深对这门课程的认识,同时为学生的未来职业选择提供机遇。

三、实际教学中的诸多问题研究及解决办法

就旅游英语教学实际情况而言,因为这是一门新开设的跨专业的课程,所以在实际教学过程中,存在诸多问题,现将问题罗列如下:

1.可用的教学书面资料陈旧且不足。

目前市面上可以买到的各种与旅游相关的资料严重短缺,缺乏一本综合的、全方位介绍旅游方面的英文版本的教科书。我认为,合理恰当的教学课本是学习旅游英语这门课程的基础,现在的学生需要这样一本教材。然而,市面上的相关书籍更新换代严重不足,部分版本的书远不能反映市场现状,更加不能够为学生了解、学习和掌握相关旅游知识提供帮助。为此,希望教育行政部门能够想办法积极为学生编订高水平、更为合理的教材。

2.教学形式太过老套,教学设施配备落后。

若要实现高质量、高素质培养未来旅游从业专业人员的这一目标,很显然,目前单纯地在课堂上教授、讲述远不能满足实际需求,现在的旅游英语课堂迫切需要走出去,到实际环境中,让学生用自己的眼睛看、头脑来感知、实现进步。为此,我认为,目前我们应该抽出几堂课的时间,带着学生走出课堂,走入景点,实际操作。另外,本门课程需要在现代化的多媒体教室中进行,然而,由于多媒体教室数量不足,音响效果欠佳,在一定程度上影响了教学效果。因此,学校需加大投入,为学生创造好的教学场所,提供先进科学的教学设施。

3.师资不足。

由于旅游英语是一门新兴的行业,同时是学校开设的新兴学科,带课老师大多由以前的英语专业老师,这部分老师虽然具有良好的英语专业背景知识,但缺乏旅游相关专业知识。考虑到这一现状,我认为,目前可行的解决办法是:(1)考虑引进具备旅游专业基础知识的外教。(2)对现有的从事旅游英语教育的英语专业老师进行旅游专业相关知识的技能培训。

4.学生综合素质,学业水平各不相同。

若要培养出高水平、高质量的学生,则教师需要尽职尽责。然而,在实际教学过程中不难发现,学生的综合素质、学业水平并不相同,在授完同样课程内容后,学生的接受、领悟能力差异较大。部分学生即使通过努力,仍然不可能达到课程要求,这些学生的口语表达能力欠佳,英语基本功较弱,对于这部分学生,我认为旅游英语这门课程首先应当采取选修形式,给予他们选择权,此外,教师可以根据这部分学生特点,制订合理教学计划与方案,有所侧重,努力帮助学生加强对本门课程的学习、理解和掌握。

四、结论与启示

旅游英语作为一门专业性强、综合要求高的课程,在带给学生学习乐趣和知识的同时,它需要从事相关课程的老师制订合理且行之有效的教学方案。我在两年的实际教学过程中认为有以下几点需要注意:选择专业的、合理的最新教材;引进具有专业素养的相关专业教师;完善并合理利用多媒体设施;注重实践,尽量为学生创造实践机会;适时有效地和学生进行沟通交流,以便调整教学计划方案,适应学生和社会需求。
